CLEDARA ABBEY STADIUM ISSUE #1

Notes from the boARd

Welcome to the Cledara Abbey Stadium!

Whether you’re a loyal fan, a first-time visitor, a student joining us or one of our valued sponsors, thank you for your support.

A warm welcome to fans, players and staff from our opponents, QPR.

We’ve had a fantastic start to the season, winning our last four FAWNL games, progressing to the First Round of the FA Cup last week and we’re excited to have you with us on this journey.

It’s been a busy and exciting summer for the club, marked by significant developments both on and off the pitch. We’ve undergone a change in governance, and I’m delighted to welcome

Mark Brian and Liz Pamplin to the Women’s Board. In addition, Charlotte Crisp has taken on the role of general manager, making an impact with the women’s operations team to facilitate further growth for the United Women.

We also began a new chapter with the appointment of Sean Greygoose as our new head coach. Sean brings great energy, leadership, and vision to the role and we’re looking forward to seeing the team develop under his guidance.

Today’s opponents, QPR, arrive with 9 points from their first 5 games, a strong start, and a clear sign that we’re in for a competitive fixture.

Off the pitch we continue to invest in the future. We’re proud to have added an U16s JPL team to our player development structure complementing our existing U18s. Alongside our ETC talent pathway, this is another step in strengthening our pipeline and giving young girls the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

We hope you enjoy the matchday experience and the atmosphere here at the Abbey. We’re passionate about building a strong connection with our fans across Cambridgeshire and we’d love to hear your thoughts on today’s experience, and what you’d like to see in the future.

Enjoy the match!

GREYGooSE

Welcome to the Cledara Abbey Stadium, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the players, staff and supporters of QPR and hope you enjoy the game and a safe trip home.

We would also like to say a huge welcome to all the Cambridge United fans that are attending today’s game and I know the players and staff are grateful for you coming out and supporting us today. We hope that you enjoy the different activities before the game which the foundation are running in the kids zone. I would also like to thank all the people behind the scenes that are helping make today’s game happen at the Abbey.

As I mentioned above we are welcoming QPR for today’s league fixture who have had a good start to the season and we hope today will be an exciting fixture with lots of action and goals.

Hope you enjoy the game and have a great day.

history of QPr fC womEN

QPR FC Women have a proud history dating back to 1969, when the team was first established under the name QPR Ladies. They were among the early pioneers of women’s football in England, achieving notable success in the 1970s. The club lifted the Women’s FA Cup in 1976/77, defeating Southampton in the final, and reached the final again the following year, a testament to their competitive pedigree and early influence in the women’s game.

In more recent years, QPR FC Women have been closely connected with QPR in the Community Trust, which took over management of the senior women’s setup in 2019/20. This move aimed to strengthen the link between the women’s team, the club, and the local community,

From the 2024/25 season, the club announced a new chapter for its women’s and girls’ programme. QPR FC Women and QPR Girls are now aligned directly under the club infrastructure, rather than the Community Trust, with the vision of developing an elite pathway into the women’s first team.

QPR FC Women have also enjoyed recent silverware success, capturing the Capital Cup and earning promotion to Tier 4 of the women’s football pyramid in recent seasons.

QPR Women began their 2025/26 FA Women’s National League campaign in commanding style, opening with a 7–0 away victory over MK Dons Women. Followed by successive FAWNL groupstagecup wins against Chesham United and Charlton Athletic PGA.

However, in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, Rangers were narrowly eliminated by Dartford FC Women after a 1–1 draw, losing 4–1 in the penalty shootout.

QPR Women have also drawn AFC Bournemouth Women at home in the first round of the FA Women’s National League Cup.

GRAcE StANlEY

There are few names more synonymous with QPR FC Women in recent seasons than Grace Stanley. The prolific forward has been crowned Player of the Year for three consecutive seasons. Stanley has been in outstanding form once again this campaign, finding the net regularly and leading the line with confidence. Her four-goal haul in the opening day 7–0 win over MK Dons Women showcased her instinctive finishing and sharp movement in the final third.

Jo blodGEtt

A long-standing member of the squad, Jo Blodgett represents everything that’s good about QPR FC Women. A dependable figure in midfield, Blodgett’s leadership both on and off the pitch continues to set the standard for younger players around her. Her commitment to the club’s values was recognised when she was named QPR FC Women’s PFA Community Champion (2023/24) for her tireless efforts supporting the club’s community projects and inspiring the next generation of female footballers.

mElIS mEhmEt

A new signing for the 2024/25 season, forward Melis Mehmet has wasted no time making her mark in the blue and white hoops. Her tireless pressing and attacking drive have already caused problems for defenders across the league, and she etched her name into early-season headlines by scoring four goals against Charlton Athletic in the League Cup. Mehmet’s energy, intensity, and instinct around goal bring an exciting new dimension to QPR’s frontline.

fRAN AlI

Another new arrival this season, Fran Ali joins QPR FC Women with a wealth of experience across the women’s game and has already shown her leadership qualities in midfield. Known for her composure on the ball and tactical intelligence, Ali has quickly become a key figure in dictating play and connecting defence to attack. Her calmness under pressure and ability to control tempo make her a natural leader at the heart of the team.

Looking ahead, QPR FC Women aim to build on their strong recent form, combining on-field ambition with a commitment to development, inclusivity, and community impact. With a talented squad, dedicated coaching staff, and a sustainable club structure behind them, the future looks bright for the R’s as they continue their rise through the ranks of English women’s football.
