Coming off the largest margin of victory in program history, the Hartford men’s basketball team is rolling heading into Tuesday night’s home matchup versus FDU-Florham. The Hawks (2-3) defeated Houghton 98-32 on Saturday to set the record the largest victory in program history, eclipsing the Hawks’ 104-47 (57 points) win against Pratt on Feb. 2, 1985.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
FDU-Florham has lost its first five games by an average of 9.8 points. Opponents are shooting .467 against the Devils, who are averaging 15.2 turnovers per game. FDU-Florham’s highest offensive output came in a 7666 loss against Hartwick but outside of that contest the Devils are averaging 52.3 ppg. Junior forward Matthew Johnson (16.2 points per game) leads FDU-Florham’s offense.
GOING STREAKING
The Hawks put together scoring runs of 15-0, 19-0 and 20-0 against Houghton on Saturday. Hartford’s largest scoring spree during the entire 2021-22 season was 13 points, coming during a 65-49 win at NJIT, on Feb. 12, 2022.

Hartford wasn’t just hot on offense against the Highlanders, as the Hawks limited Houghton to just 32 points. It was the second fewest scored by an opponent in Hartford men’s basketball history, trailing only the team’s defensive gem in a 57-28 victory against Nasson during the 1963-64 season. The last time the Hawks held an opponent to 40 points or less was in a 74-39 victory versus New Hampshire on Jan. 23, 2019.

The Hawks set multiple records against the Highlanders. Hartford finished with 28 assists, tying the program’s all-time mark, set against Pratt on Feb. 2, 1985 The Hawks 40 field goals also tied the all-time home record, set against Concordia on Jan. 21, 2003

Hartford will travel to the inaugural Cathedral Classic in Philadelphia, for a three-day tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. The Hawks will face off against tournament host Penn on Friday (Nov. 25) at 4:30 p.m. Hartford will also face Delaware (Saturday) and Colgate (Sunday).
