Hartford men’s basketball (1-3) will welcome Houghton (0-4, 0-0 Empire 8) to Chase Arena for a 2 p.m. tipoff. The Highlanders are the second of three Division III opponents who will visit the Hawks this season.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
Houghton has struggled out of the gate, dropping its first four contests under first-year head coach Jeremy Bialek. Freshman forward Esafe Taufahema leads the Highlanders in scoring (18.5 points per game), followed closely by junior forward Jujuan Preaster (17.3 ppg). All five members of Houghton’s regular starting lineup have each committed at least 20 turnovers this season, with the team averaging 20.5 turnovers per game. Houghton has done nearly all of its damage inside, with the Highlanders shooting just 15-of-77 (19.5 percent) from 3-point range. The Highlanders are surrendering 81.3 points per game.
FINDING THEIR RANGE
The Hawks have been uneven from behind the arc this season. One game after finishing 1-for-17 from long distance against St. Francis, Hartford’s sharpshooters were on fire against
Boston University, finishing 10-for-22 from long distance. Michael Dunne (4-for-8), Kurtis Henderson (3-for6) and Briggs McClain (2-for-4) all shot 50 percent from 3-point range at BU. Freshman Braxton Jones also converted his only 3-point attempt against the Terriers.
A WELCOMED ADDITION
Graduate transfer Pano Pavlidis has made an immediate impact during his first season with the Hawks. Pavlidis leads the team with 7.3 rpg and three blocks, and ranks second on the squad in both scoring 11.3 ppg and shooting percentage (.588). He was the Hawks’ leading scorer at St. Francis, finishing with 13 points and nine boards and has led the team in rebounding in all but one contest.

Hartford will welcome FDU-Florham to Chase Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when the Hawks host the Devils at 6 p.m. It will be the first matchup between the two teams. FDU-Florham is the final Division III opponent on Hartford’s 2022-23 schedule.
