Silent Heroes with Andre Vincent & Neil Brand

The Crown Hotel

exclus

Double takes, pratfalls and facial gagging. Mention silent comedy and immediately these visual qualities come to mind. And that’s understandable: most physical comedians are divorced from language and carry their best gag with them at all times, their body. Verbal comics must master content, while physical comics master form - slipping on a banana skin, running away from fifty policemen or having a house fall on them is the quickest way to the laugh. Your guide through this compendium of celluloid slapstick will be André Vincent, a stand-up comedian also trained in clowning, a man who knows literally how to take a fall. Accompanying him on the journey and on the piano will be the finest silent film composer of his generation, Neil Brand. Together they will present a Harrogate Comedy Festival exclusive event the whole family can enjoy; an evening of comedy the way it used to be, cinematic gems in just the way they should be seen: on a big screen, with live music and a room full of laughter. The Boy Who Kicked Pigs Presented by Kill The Beast Adapted from the novel by Tom Baker

An emotionally charged, coming-of-age story, blending wry comedy and the music of a beloved cult band, sung live.

13-year-old Robert Caligari is a nasty piece of work. But today is the day he gets his comeuppance. Today is the day he is going to die.

Meet William, a twenty-something Londoner who drifts from coffee shop to bar, falling in love, self-obsessing and finding solace in The Smiths. Torn between conflicting loyalties to the girl of his dreams and his best friend, William has the chance to become more than half a person.

Kill The Beast (“A scorchingly talented young company” Time Out) presents its critically acclaimed, Edinburgh Fringe smash hit adapted from the novel by Doctor Who’s Tom Baker.

“Presley’s comic timing is spot on” The Sunday Times

Starring a cast of four, beautiful projection, original music and more than eight hats, this is a grisly tale of one scoundrel’s attempt at infamy. Suitable for vegetarians. “The League Of Gentlemen meets Hammer Horror with a detour through Willy Wonka’s nightmare tunnel” The Skinny “A perfect example of the fun, vitality and inventiveness that can make theatre magical” Public Reviews

Bane

Presented by Seabright Productions Created and performed by Ian Ashpitel and Jonty Stephens Featuring classic material by Eddie Braben, Dick Hills and Sid Green

Presented by Whitebone Productions

This affectionate, moving and fantastically funny homage to the greatest comedy double act Britain has ever seen, vividly brings back warm memories of a bygone era. Recreating some of the finest moments of Eric and Ernie’s television and stage performances, cherished moments from the archives sit alongside new material created by the performers. Together they make a brilliant comedy that recreates the all-ages appeal of Morecambe & Wise in their heyday. The show was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, securing rave reviews and a transfer to the West End. “Ashpitel and Stephens have got the duo’s mannerisms down pat to such a winning extent… you could watch this for hours” Daily Telegraph

STUDIO THEATRE

Bane is a one-man, one-musician series of plays that follows anti-hero Bruce Bane as he goes about his shadowy business in the mean streets of a fictional American city. It is both a comedy and a drama and has three separate episodes in total, all of which are multi-award winning and can be seen as standalone shows in any order. Heavily inspired by film noir, Bane uses physical performance, shape-shifting from character to character as the story unfurls to conjure the setting. This multicharacter switching creates a filmic tapestry on stage that is funny, engaging and at times moving. There are more than 40 characters per show, all performed by one man and accompanied by a stunning live guitar soundtrack by one musician. Created by Joe Bone, Bane has featured on BBC Radio 2 and 3 and has wowed international audiences in Italy, Brazil, Australia and, most recently, India. “Excellent” The Times
