In February and once again in December 2020 the BID partnered with The Harrogate Bus Company to sponsor its ‘Sunday Freeway’, offering passengers the chance to ride its Harrogate Electrics buses on services 2A, 2B, 3 and 6, which link Bilton, Dene Park, The Knox, Jennyfield and Pannal Ash with the town centre, free of charge. Free Parking
For December we also launched a “free after three” car parking scheme, where motorists arriving after 3pm at the Victoria Car Park on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, are be able to park for free—drastically increasing the appeal of visiting the Harrogate town centre in a Covid safe manner, in the run up to Christmas.
This service drastically increased the numbers of shoppers travelling into the town centre when in place earlier this year, carrying 42% more people on average than a typical Sunday, and over 70% more people than the same weeks in March 2019. Over a year that could equate to over 20,000 more people visiting the town centre on Sundays.
