Where Care Comes First The Hospitalist Program at Harrison County Hospital has grown to cover your healthcare needs 24 hours a day! Should you be admitted to the Hospital, your Primary Care Physician may turn over your Hospital care to a member of our Hospitalist Team.

The Hospitalist Team will monitor your health, day and night, and be available to consult with you and your family.

Upon discharge, your Primary Care Provider will receive a comprehensive report of your Hospital stay, so that they’ll be ready for your follow up.

You’ll be in good hands at Harrison County Hospital…

Exercise May Help Delay Hip Replacement Kim Huston, Norton Healthcare Published January 17, 2018

We know exercise provides many health benefits and lowers risk for conditions like Type 2 diabetes, cancer and more. But did you know that exercise could help lower your risk for a hip replacement?

Exercise is one of the best things you can do to keep your hips healthy, especially if you already have arthritis. A 2013 study (with a 2015 follow-up) published in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases showed that individuals with mild to moderate hip osteoarthritis might be able to avoid or delay hip surgery by exercising.

The study put people through a 12-week exercise program. Six years later, they were 44 percent less likely to need hip replacement compared with a control group that did not exercise.

Exercise can help strengthen the muscles that support your hips. It also may help you keep range of motion in your hips. Stretching the muscles and tendons surrounding the joint also may ease pain from certain hip conditions and lower your injury risk.

What Types Of Exercise Should I Do? Before starting any exercise routine, talk with your health provider about what’s right for you. Water aerobics, riding a stationary bike, dancing and even housework are all ways to stay active.

Vegetarian Chili For meat and non-meat eaters alike!

• ½ Sweet Onion

• 1 Cup Chopped Carrots

• 5 Cloves Garlic

• 1 Summer Squash

• 1 Yellow Pepper

• 1 Zucchini

• 1 Green Pepper

• ½ Cup Fresh Mushrooms Chopped

• 3 Tbsp. Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

• 1 Sm (15 oz) Can Black Beans

• ¼ Pickled Jalapenos

• 1 Sm (15 oz) Can Dark Kidney Beans

• 1 Tbsp. Pickled Jalapeno Juice

• 1 Sm (15 oz) Can Corn

• 1 Package (14 oz) Soft or Silken Tofu • 2 Lg (28 oz) Cans Diced Tomatoes [no salt added] • 2 Broccoli Heads

• 1 Sm (6 oz) Can Tomato Paste

DIRECTIONS 1. Prepare Vegetables: Chop garlic, onion and jalapenos. Dice peppers, zucchini, summer squash and mushrooms. Cut broccoli florets into small heads. Drain and rinse beans and corn.

2. Sautéed Veggies: In a large 40 qt, heat EVOO over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add garlic, peppers and onions. Crumble tofu into the pot and add jalapeno juice. Cook vegetables down until onions turn translucent. Add broccoli, carrots, squash, zucchini and mushrooms, then cover. Reduce heat to low, cover and let vegetables simmer for about 10 minutes, or until soft, stirring occasionally.

3. Add Beans: Add black beans, kidney beans and corn to the sautéed vegetables. Stir bean and vegetable mix, until well combined. Add both cans of diced tomatoes, again stirring until well incorporated. Increase heat to a low simmer, reducing for about 10 minutes, making sure to stir occasionally.

4. Thicken after liquid is slightly reduced; add tomato paste and stir well. Cook mixture uncovered for another 10 minutes or until desired consistency.

Tip: Add your preferred cheese, sour cream or avocado and use tortilla chips to dip to create your perfect bite!
