Fields has plan for Flatwoods By Hank Bond The Greenup Beacon
Ron Fields has been elected mayor of the City of Flatwoods and has his eyes, mind and heart set on the future. Ron was born to Calvin (C.J.} and Lorraine Fields at KDMC and has resided in Flatwoods for the past 15 years. The mayor-elect is married to Barbara Fields. The couple has four girls: Sandy, Casaundra, Angie, and Jody. Fields graduated from Raceland High School in 1969 and attended Ashland Community College, enrolling in numerous continuing education courses at various technical learning centers. “I attended Advance Grade School and McDowell Elementary School. Some might still remember those schools,
right here in Flatwoods.” He is now retired. “I retired from CSX as a Storeroom Supervisor in the Materials Department. I worked for area police departments and served as a volunteer firefighter on two local fire departments and was an E.M.T. in the early 1980s.” Before being elected mayor, Fields served on Flatwoods City Council for two years. Fields can make direct correlations in life’s success. “It takes hard work and education to get anywhere in life - that’s what I did and that’s how I got where I am today. “I’m a lifelong learner and enjoyed learning different areas throughout life and what it takes to be a better person. I always tried to be an educated person. If I am interested in a job I learn imperative

Russell Parade Dec. 4 The Russell Christmas Parade, hosted by the Downtown Russell Business Association, will be held on Dec. 4, beginning at 7 p.m. The event, which will be held on the streets of downtown Russell, will line up between 6 and 6:30 p.m. on Clinton Street directed by the Russell Police Department. The parade will kick off at 7 p.m. The featured float will be Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, as pictures will be allowed after the parade in front of the fire station. Organizers as that there be no other Santas in the parade. A chili/cookie dinner will be served at the Russell Fire Station immediately following the parade with musical entertainment provided. The parade committee welcomes all participants: floats, walkers, bands, fire trucks and others. The grand marshals of the parade this year will See News On Page 2

One of the ranking achievements for high school officials is to reach the state tournament level, as is the case with these officials: 15th region and 16th region officials represented their respective regions in the KHSAA volleyball state final between Mercy and Notre Dame. Mercy claimed a 3-2 win in sets to claim the championship. Brittany Branham is from the 15th region and Kevin Richardson is a 16th region official.

Several of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes officers at Russell High School discuss plans for the annual Turkey Trot. The event takes place on Thanksgiving morning at 9:00 am at Russell Super Quik and participants can run, walk, or “trot” the 5k or 10k course. While there is no entry fee, people are encouraged to bring canned food and/or any nonperishable food items- especially those items that would fill Thanksgiving baskets. T-shirts are donated and all proceeds go to Helping Hands! Strollers and pets are welcome! My goal is to continue in that forward-pressing direction. I feel we must upgrade computers and IT systems; and add programs and activi-
