The Pre-Prep & Prep School is located on two well-appointed sites in the quiet residential neighbourhood of Hampton, South West London.

The Pre-Prep School is accommodated in an attractive Edwardian building on Wensleydale Road. The recently refurbished Prep School borders a local park, and is located in a state-of-the-art building within extensive grounds on Gloucester Road. Inside, the design is light and spacious and facilities include an IT suite, a purpose-built art room, library, music rooms, and a large assembly hall. Our School offers an abundance of outdoor areas including grass playing fields and an all-weather games zone. As part of the Hampton Trust, Pre-Prep & Prep pupils also have access to the superb facilities at Hampton School which allows us to enhance further their curricular and pastoral provision.

When I first joined the School I actually felt very safe and not nervous at all. The Headmaster, Mr Smith, sent a card to my home welcoming me and when I read it I felt like I was part of the School already. What I like about Hampton Prep is that the teachers are very kind. I also like the buddy system which is when children in higher classes help the younger ones. I am very excited to be a buddy when I am in Year 5. At breaktimes I like to play ‘cops and robbers’ with my friends. When I grow up, I want to be a detective because I like to help people and discover things.

I joined the School when I was 6 years old and I am very happy here. I am now in Prep. It’s an awesome building with lots of new technology. I especially like the fingerprint scanners that we use to get into the building. I take part in lots of clubs including Soccer Skills Club, Cookery Club and Board Games Club. The outside space is great and at breaktimes I play make-believe games with all my friends.

The visual and performing arts are an integral part of school life at Hampton Pre-Prep & Prep. Children are offered the opportunity to learn a wide variety of instruments, and singing is an important part of the musical curriculum across the School. Alongside a number of informal concerts, the Hampton Prep Proms showcases the musical talent of all in the Summer Term. Performance opportunities are built into our extensive assembly programme and both drama and dance are included as aspects of our timetabled curriculum. All pupils take part in large-scale dramatic productions each year. The visual arts flourish here as a walk along any corridor will demonstrate. Artistic endeavour is an integral part of the curriculum at all ages.

I really enjoy the lessons because it is fun to learn new things. Maths, Art, and Creative Writing are my favourite subjects. Creative Writing encourages us to use our imagination which means you can write really interesting stories. I am passionate about Rugby. The coaching here is great and I think that I have really improved. Mr Smith, our Headmaster, is very nice. He inspires us weekly with his varying assemblies. He is very easy to talk to and fun to be around.

Registration Registration for entry to the Pre-Prep & Prep School should be made using the Registration Form, which we ask you to complete and return to the Admissions Office with the registration fee. Copies of the Registration Form are sent out with the prospectus and are also available from the Admissions area of our website,www.hamptonprep.org.u k.

Kindergarten

Boys seeking entry to Year 3 from other schools are assessed during the course of an extended visit to the Prep in the autumn of the year preceding entry. The visit offers us an opportunity to get to know the boys and assess their developing skills in Maths, English and Reasoning. Boys take part in practical, problem solving activities in groups and on an individual basis, and there is a strong emphasis on encouraging them to show, share and explain their thinking. Much of what we do cannot be prepared for. Parents are contacted in the Autumn Term preceding the year of entry with details about the assessments.

Morning Kindergarten The majority of children join morning Kindergarten. Entry is in the September following their third birthday and pupils are encouraged to attend all five morning Years 4 - Year 6 sessions, staying on for afternoon sessions when they are settled and ready. Assessment for entry to Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 is subject to a place Afternoon Kindergarten being available. A limited number of afternoon only sessions are available. Girls and boys may join afternoon Kindergarten in the term in which they turn three. Although there is no formal assessment for entry to Kindergarten, all applicants are invited to attend a ‘play’ session when they will have the opportunity to meet staff and current pupils. The ‘play’ session helps us, and parents, to determine whether Hampton Pre-Prep will provide an environment in which their child will thrive.

Reception - Year 2 Admission to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 is for ‘occasional’ places only. Subject to a place being available, applicants will be invited to spend time with prospective classmates to assess if they will enjoy and benefit from the broad curriculum on offer.

Year 3 In Year 3 we increase from a one-form to a two-form entry. The additional places are filled by external applicants.

Boys attending the Pre-Prep transfer to the Prep School automatically at the end of Year 2, subject to meeting the required standards of behaviour and progress.

Hampton School Assured Places

A number of boys gain entry to Hampton School via an Assured Place Scheme. As part of the School’s internal assessment programme, ageappropriate tests are undertaken throughout the academic year, providing boys at Hampton Pre-Prep & Prep (from Year 2 to the end of Year 5) with the opportunity to be awarded an Assured Place to Hampton at 11. Boys entering the Prep from other schools may also be awarded an Assured Place to Hampton at 11, as a result of their performance in our entry assessments or via our ongoing assessment process. Regardless of the Assured Place Scheme, all boys receive excellent preparation for 11+ enabling them transfer to a wide range of senior schools. Many boys gain Academic, Art, Music and All-Rounder Scholarships.

Hampton Pre-Prep Girls At the end of Year 2, girls also move on to their next school. Girls are prepared for 7+ assessments at a variety of schools, including the junior departments of Lady Eleanor Holles School, Surbiton High School, St Catherine’s School, Claremont Fan Court School and Radnor House.
