This collection for your home was inspired by a pre-Inca civilization that existed in the coastal region of Peru, between one of the driest deserts in the world and the Pacific Ocean, an ocean blessed with a rich flora and marine life. An ancient culture named Chancay built in the desert and made its living from the ocean. It was a culture closely linked to the sea.
Chancay amazes for the high quality of its textiles and multiple techniques used.
Their laces are particularly renowned for their delicacy and complexity, within which they represent images of fish, seabirds and geometric figures. The lacy holes inspired us in our own collection to use special stitching to create open spaces.
In architecture, the Chancay style is known for buildings with large blocks of clay called “tapiales” that we wanted to represent in our knits with square shapes created by hand.
These lords of the desert made the best of the resources of the region, and they leave us proud with their achievements. They made it 50 years before the rise of the kings of the Andes with the Empire of the Incas.
Chancay laces are especially renowned for their delicacy and complexity, in which they represent images of fish, seabirds and geometric figures.

Alternating open and closed squares create the open spaces that every lace must have. In our Rontoy Lace blanket, these open spaces are possible thanks to threads that hold them together and function as a framework for the development of this story in Rontoy, an architectural complex of the Chancay culture.

Why do we do this? With a background as artisans, and after having discovered and experienced the power that our dreams have to transform our future, we want the same for the artisans we work with.
We do that by creating and selling high-quality artisan-made gifts that are friendly to people, society, and our environment.
Making our reason short, we exist to create:
"Handmade gifts that make a difference, ethically."
Our mission: to create job opportunities that artisans like Dionicio are passionate about.
"There is a place in Latin America where a great Inca empire once existed. These Kings of the Andes had amazing textile traditions carried out by hard-working people.
Centuries later, in what we know today as Peru, there are still communities of knitters proud of their origin who lovingly transform the best materials from their land into textiles recognized around the world.
One of these communities is particularly special. This community values, practices and defends the benefits of Fair Trade.
Our project is hand made in Peru, HAMPAJ is its name and means for you.

The story of our brand HAMPAJ, starts with a little girl at her parent’s workshop, both parents artisans, who, playing, passed on their ancestral knowledge to her, full of values and colors flowing from the roots of the motherland that saw them all grow. The parents, aware of the challenges of their work, wanted a better future for the girl, with no shortages and no heartache, and while they protected her so that she did not feel that pain, they also prepared her for that future they dreamed of. But the girl, in her heart, knew about the shortages, she felt them, they hurt her, and with that she grew. As the years passed, she discovered that her dreams had helped to ease the life of her parents. She understood that dreaming big could help others to live in peace, and with what she learned what she wanted to share with the world.
This dream, together with the love that only a mother can give, makes HAMPAJ a bright light in a previously dark sky.
Everything was born from a dream, the dream of a little girl, the dream of women knitters.
She studied informatic engineering and worked for IBM for almost 7 years until HAMPAJ was born in 2014
