Today is recognized as “Veterans Day.” Across the EMC and across the nation, men and women who have served in one of our branches of the United States Armed Forces deserve our thanks, and deep appreciation.
The goal of this Tuesday Brief is not just information … and not simply to serve an EMC Connection. It is gratitude.
Thank you!

Every November 11th, the United States pauses to observe Veterans Day, a profound national tribute to the men and women who have worn one of the uniforms of the United States Armed Forces. This day is dedicated to honoring the commitment, courage, and immense personal sacrifice made by veterans across every generation.
In spite of all of its problems, the United States is still a shining example of freedom in the global landscape, and it is our cherished freedoms that make it the envy of so many across the world. Today, we take a moment to recognize that these freedoms we enjoy have been sacrificially secured by the vigilance and willingness of thousands of brave men and women who have stood the watch, often in harm's way. We are thankful!
The roots of the observance of Veterans Day stretch back to the close of World War I. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, an armistice (a temporary cessation of hostilities) was signed, effectively ending the devastating conflict of the Great War. The holiday was originally called "Armistice Day," and was intended to be a solemn recognition of world peace and to honor the veterans who fought in that war. But after the US had engaged in later global conflicts including World War II and the Korean War the realization came that we should honor all our veterans, not just those who served in World War I.
In 1954, following a campaign by veterans service organizations, the United States Congress officially amended the Act of 1938, replacing "Armistice" with "Veterans." This act ensured that November 11th would forever honor all American veterans, reflecting a comprehensive gratitude for service past and present.
Today, Veterans Day stands as a powerful reminder that our debt to our service men and women is truly immeasurable. We cannot say it loud or long enough.
It is a day not just for parades and ceremonies, but for thoughtful reflection on the meaning of sacrifice and service. To the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen those who have stood the watch in times of peace and those who have faced the horrors of war we offer our deepest respect and lasting gratitude. “Thank you” to each and every one of you for your conscientious service.
