On Facebook www.facebook.com/groups/hadleighhares On Twitter www.twitter.com/hadleighhares84 Online www.hadleighhares.co.uk Sun 4th November 2012: Harwich Cross Country The second leg of the 53-12 Cross Country running league was held in Harwich. These are excellently organised events but are different to most running races. There are no prizes, finishing medals or goodie bags, no changing facilities, timing chips and virtually no spectators, just a simple cross country race against 200 plus runners from Suffolk and Essex. The course follows a five mile route around muddy fields and tracks. At various turns the driving rain made it difficult to see properly and at some points, where the ground was saturated, you thought you were just running into a freezing cold river. It was the girls who put in an outstanding performance. The five strong team all raced well with a stunning debut performance from Penny Grayson finishing in 12th position and a very strong run from Claire O'Neill finishing in 28th. The ever consistent Trudy Avis and Kate Thomas packed well behind Penny and Deb Stewart showed tremendous commitment to the team by offering her club colours to Penny meaning that she would not be in a scoring position herself for Hadleigh. In the men's race Matt Hunter's excellent year continued with his highest placed finish in the cross country league. Hares legend Mat Blacoe is returning to full fitness and showed the magic is still there by finishing in 29th. John Scaife followed up his 3rd position in last week's Salisbury Half Marathon with a top 10 place and Steve Hunt got the better of son Stuart for the first time this year. Not far behind were the smiling and enthusiastic faces of Andrew Stewart and super veteran Mike Rosbrook who always offer their support and experience to the benefit of team spirit. In the junior section Alex Baxter looked comfortable winning the race by some distance with little brother Ewan and Elizabeth Stewart not far behind. All in all a good day for the Hares who now push up to second position overall in Pool B with four races remaining. Ladies' Race: 12th Penny Grayson, 26th Trudy Avis, 28th Claire O'Neill, 35th Kate Thomas, 67th Deb Stewart. Men's Race: 10th John Scaife, 29th Mat Blacoe, 44th Matt Hunter, 113th Steve Hunt, 122nd Stuart Hunt, 127th Andrew Stewart, 141st Mike Rosbrook. Juniors' Race: 1st Alex Baxter, 21st Ewan Baxter, 65th Elizabeth Stewart Sun 14th October 2012: Great Eastern Half Marathon Anne, Jackie and Corinna set off bright and early heading up the A14/A1 to run the Perkins Great Eastern half marathon in Peterborough. Weather conditions were perfect as they joined 4,500 other runners on The Embankment start line to begin the 13.1 run through the flat citywide course. Running through the suburbs, with continual vocal support and sugary treats being handed out (yum yum!) Peterborough lived up to its billing as one of the fastest races in Britain as both Corinna (1.51) and Jackie (2.08) posted PBs. Anne (2.20) racing for the first time since her Brighton marathon back in April was pleased to get some long mileage in before she embarks on winter marathon training once more! A well organised race that is to be recommended for those chasing a PB and who expect a decent goody bag thrown in too! More of the same for 2013 please....
