The regrettable lesson from history seems to be that we fail to learn from history.

Jesus pronounces peacemakers as blessed and yet declares he has come to disrupt the status quo. This looks like a contradiction in terms. That status quo is that humanity has failed to recognise we are all equal and valuable in the sight of our heavenly Father and our creator. Noone is dispensable for the greater good.

Life at The Shelley Centre

The lovely weather continues and all our ponies and riders and making the most of it. One of our long time resident ponies, April, has now been retired and is enoying life as a companion. We have a new pony Taric on loan and when he has settled in we hope he will prove a good replacement for April, being a similar size. As well as ponies and helpers coming and going, we have riders leave for various reasons and new ones are taken on. Sue, who is a physiotherapist, assesses potential riders before they autumn, Bella a delightful and bright to be assessed as she needed help to strengthen her core muscles. When she arrived she spent time stroking a pony before Sue carried her on her hips to assess how wide Bella’s hips would open. Although she wanted to ride a live pony it was clear she needed to start out using Ebony, the mechanical horse. Initially her little legs were so tight

up on her own needing a volunteer on either side to hold her up. She was happy playing games and stretching to reach things and was an absolute delight to work with. After a few weeks she was trotting and cantering on Ebony, sitting up much straighter and for longer, and her legs relaxed more. Then to everyone’s delight she was ready to ride our lovely pony Thomas. This is helping her progress even more – what a star! Picture: Bella with Sue. At the other end of the age scale, on Tuesday afternoons we have elderly, frail and dementia patients come for Tea with a Pony. Spending time petting the little ponies Chocolate or Cookie is very therapeutic, especially as many of them once rode or kept horses. And there is a lovely cuppa and cake afterwards. Pictured is 88-year old Diana with Chocolate. She rode for much of her life and loves the opportunity to be around the ponies.

Our fundraising continues apace. Last month our walk, followed by homemade

been keeping well.

We will be having our BBQ open day on Sunday 27 diary. As well as meeting our animals we should have a variety of stalls and some children’s games, along with face painting, there will be refreshments and homemade cakes to enjoy with your BBQ. Come along meet our lovely rescues and have a great day. If you would like a stall please let us know.

Our Charity is looking for fund raising volunteers, who would like to join our small team. Perhaps you have some good ideas on a fundraising event, or would like to help out in the summer on a stand at a local event. We have a few ladies that have a monthly meeting about fund raising ideas etc, it would be nice if you could join us.

Amongst our lovely rescues are our donkeys; Donkeys like to be with another donkey or more, they enjoy playing together with a ball, toys, or as in the photo’s a barrel or bucket. They are so funny to watch, they spend so much time playing, it is so sweet, watching two of them play tug of war. Donkeys like to play like this and should have a handle horse ball and some other balls/toys similar to play with.

I was ask to give a talk at The Bygones collectors club in Long Melford last month and had an evening meeting some nice people who were a pleasure to give a talk too. On that day I was a busy bee as usual and rushed around to get to the hall in plenty of time, when I was there preparing to give my talk, I looked down and noticed I had put my dress on inside out, which I told the members, as I did not want them to think that was how I normally dressed, they did think it was funny, which was a good start to my talk. The donation they gave at the end of the evening for my Charity was wonderful and again I would very much like to thank running, a cheque that covered a month’s hay costs was brilliant. If your group would like me to give a talk, my contact details are below. We hope to have another dog walk and a meal night soon, so keep an eye out for those dates.
