Mock Election…

HEADLINES Year 11 pupils are now approaching their final weeks of formal education at Hadleigh High School. We have our final assembly for them on the 27th May where we celebrate the successes and achievements they have had as well as sharing the many positive experiences and memories they have shared since being at the school. We are proud of the young adults they have become and are confident that they will contribute positively to any community in which they live and work locally, nationally and even globally! In a month or so we welcome the pupils who will be joining us in September as Year 7. This is always an exciting time for pupils as they come to the end of their primary education. Our staff have been visiting the primary schools to meet pupils. I have also been visiting our primary partners to meet pupils and see the learning they are undertaking. I look forward to welcoming our new pupils to our learning community.

Not to be outdone by the General Election, Hadleigh High School has recently held its own election within the school. Four parties were represented: the Conservative Party, the Green Party, Labour and the Liberal Democrats. The MPs who represented each party were: Jack Upson from the Green Party, Josh Kemp, the Labour Party, Nathan Dickson denoted the Liberal Democrats, and finally representing the Conservative party was Vlad Velicka. The votes were extremely close as the party that came second and first were separated by just one vote! However, after three recounts Nathan Dickson for the Liberal Democrats managed to seal the deciding vote that lifted them into first place leaving Vlad Velicka from the Conservative Party in a close second. Hadleigh High School pupils were supported by the local community as they gave out rosettes, badges, posters, and various other campaign equipment, to help the students with their bids. We are extremely grateful for their help with this event. The organiser of this successful event was Hadleigh High School’s Head of PSHE teacher, Miss Cook. She helped our young political students count the votes and commented on the success of the event. Miss Cook stated that; “It has been an excellent experience for the pupils who took part and it has enriched their political knowledge for the future.” Thank you to everyone who participated in this educational event.

Music, music, and more music... Recently, the Music department has been overrun with excitement. There has been a plethora of events and also a lot of anticipation for upcoming events, such as the Wind Band tour, Steel Pictures gig at the Regent, and a few gigs for bands such as the HHS Swing Band and the Voice Squad. On Thursday 13th May, the Sports Hall was the venue for the HHS Summer Concert, with many people attending this prestigious event. The concert played host for many talented soloists, who went through rigorous auditions to gain a spot to perform for the audience. There were also group performances from the excellent Swing Band, Voice Squad, Orchestra, and, last but not least, the strangely relaxing Crumhorn Group. Overall, the evening was a brilliant success for both audience and performers alike, with the night ending on a high with the prestigious Swing Band playing Tequila. We want to say a big thank you to the Hadleigh High School Association for providing drinks and refreshments for the guests. The concert could not have gone ahead without the marvellous contribution of Hadleigh High School’s pupils and staff.
