Hadleigh and District Gardening Club
At our November meeting we were delighted to welcome back Deb Hart who is always such an engaging speaker. This time she took us all through making a beautiful Christmas wreath from materials we can find in many of our gardens. Deb had some great ideas, mixing traditional use of moss, holly, cones and berries with some less mainstream fruit and vegetable choices – for those of you not looking forward to having Brussels sprouts on your Christmas dinner table, why not attach them to your front door wreath instead?! Deb kindly donated the wreath she made to our raffle prize table and all looked with envy at club member Sue as her lucky ticket was drawn – the picture shows Sue (on the right) with Deb and her prize. A good number of us resolved to go foraging in our gardens for our own wreath making attempts – look out for some quirky shows adorning the doors of Hadleigh this year. At our next meeting – Monday 12th December 2016, we are looking forward to hosting our annual quiz which always proves to be an enjoyable relaxed evening in the run up to Christmas. A knowledge of gardening is certainly not essential – rounds on Latin plant names are strictly forbidden! Typical favourite rounds with a music and picture theme will feature, and by popular request, the ‘feely bag’ round is back! Everyone is welcome, members £1.00 and nonmembers £3.00, as usual the start time being 7.30pm at Hadleigh Town Hall. Festive food is provided too – why not come and join us in the festive fun? Oak Tree planted to commemorate Queen’s Birthday
On Thursday 10 November 2016 Hadleigh Mayor Cllr Trevor Sheldrick planted an Oak Tree at Corks Lane Playground to celebrate the 90th Birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The plaque has been made and kindly donated by Hadleigh Castings and the Town Council would take this opportunity to thank them for their generosity. Councillors had made the decision to commemorate the Queen's special birthday at it's meeting of 21 April 2016. Hadleigh Town Council look forward to seeing the oak tree thrive and grow over the coming years.
