What CourseS are AVAilABLE IN HACKNEY? The Adult Learning Services Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team runs computer courses at a number of venues across Hackney. There are eight types of courses that you can attend: ICT skills for CV Creation These short courses are for people that wish to learn to use technology to create a CV. Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through a number of activities.

Course content • Produce a personal action plan • Use Word to create a CV • Make your CV look good using Word formatting tools Launching an online business These short courses are for people who have used computers before and want to start an online business. Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through a number of activities.

Course content • Identify your product of service • Create your online store • Sell your services Using SMART phones to take pictures and photo editing These short courses are for people that have smartphones and want to learn to take photos and modify them. Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through a number of activities.

Course content • Take photographs with SMART phones • Edit images • Use effects to change pictures 2

Internet Safety, Facebook and Twitter These short courses are for people that wish to learn how to use Facebook and Twitter safely. Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through a number of activities.

Course content • Create a Facebook and a Twitter Account • Access Facebook groups and follow tweets • Become familiar with privacy settings Internet Safety Workshop These workshops are for people that have used the internet on computers, iPads and/or smartphones before and wish to gain confidence in using the Internet safely. Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through a number of activities.

Course content • Identify the potential risks to yourself and to children • Protect yourself and your personal information online HOW TO ENROL To join a computer course you need to come to an assessment day. A tutor will check your current skills and advise you appropriately.

Adult Learning Services

Introduction to Computers Taster These short courses are for people who have not used computers before and wish to sample what computers are about before pursuing a qualification.

Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through a number of activities.

Course content • Word Processing • Internet • Email ICT for Users Entry Level 3 OCR These accredited courses are for people who have not used computers before or have very basic skills and want to work towards an OCR qualification. Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through three practical assignments which will then be externally moderated.

Course content • Displaying information using ICT (3 credits) • Using ICT to find information (3 credits) • Communicating information using ICT (3 credits)

Courses that offer crèche facilities will grant priority to those who require childcare. * Please note that evidence of entitlement must be produced before the enrolment is processed.

You will also be required to provide your National Insurance number when enrolling.

Computer Courses in Hackney

Level 1 ITQ Award in IT User Skills These accredited courses are for those who have achieved an Entry level certificate or already have some computers skills and want to gain a Level 1 qualification.

Your progress will be assessed by your tutor through three practical assignments which will then be externally moderated.

Course content • Word Processing using MS Word (3 credits) • Spreadsheets using MS Excel (3 credits) • Presentation Using PowerPoint (3 credits) Level 2 ITQ Award in IT User Skills These accredited courses are for those who have achieved a Level 1 Award in IT User Skills or already have some computers skills and want to gain a Level 2 qualification.

To access these courses you must be a Hackney resident, aged 19+ and a person with British Citizenship or with indefinite leave in the UK, an EEA national or their spouse or dependents, a refugee or their spouse or dependents, or an asylum seeker who has been in the UK pending consideration of their claim by the Home Office.

You must also be in receipt of incomebased benefits or be on a household income of less than ÂŁ16,190 a year.
