Four matches slated for tomorrow at Grove Following the nonplaying of matches last week due to the Grove Village Day celebrations, football action will resume at the Grove Playfield this weekend starting with the Ralph Green sponsored Under-11 league. Set to meet in the feature match of the day will be points leaders Grove Hi Tech with 13 from six matches will take on new kids on the block Diamond Upsetters from 11:00hrs. Grove will be led by the leading goal scorer Jamal Cordis who has 9 to his credit from six matches and he would surely be seeking to increase his tally. Dwayne Cliffe, Jeremiah Henry and Jevon Pluck among others will lend support to Grove’s quest as they further cement their final four bid. Diamond Upsetters will be looking to upset the home team and will look to the likes of Ronaldo Adams and Shafeek Russell to deliver a win for them. Defending champions
Agricola Red Triangle have not been showing the form they displayed at the inaugural tournament last year which landed them the title but will hope to come up with a positive result against Diamond United in the main supporting match. Jonathan Andries and Seon Grant, both with four goals each will have to come up big for their team tomorrow as they seek their third win from six encounters. Jadan Paul and Terry Moore will hope to add energy to the Agricola cause. Diamond United have been holding down joint second place on the points table with 9 along with Herstelling Raiders but will be aiming to pull into the clear against the Agricola boys. Ronaldo Adams and Jarrell George will be at the helm of the Diamond United charge. The second match of the day from 09:30hrs will bring together the red hot Herstelling Raiders and Friendship All Stars in what is anticipated to be a keen clash.
Herstelling Captain Solomon Austin is second on the leading goal scorer list so far with 8 and the busy player will be fancying his chances of adding more goals against the equally determined Friendship side. He would look for support from Lucas Fontenelles the other goal scorer for Herstelling to date. While Herstelling will be going after their fourth win in six matches, Friendship are yet to register victory in four encounters. Opening action pits Mocha Champs, which would be led by the lone female of the league, Kerry Boyce who has three goals so far, along with Daniel Bradford (6-goals), Neil Garraway and Jamal Harry in their quest for a win over another new team, Samatta Point / Kaneville which will look to Devon Parris, Akeem Francois and Shamar Lyken among others to secure win number three for them. The top four teams following group play will advance to the semi-finals.

Mahaica Determinators and Camptown secure last two quarterfinal spots
Mahaica Determinators goal scoring trio from left Eon Abel, Ozese Hally, and Curt Adams East Coast boys Mahaica Determinators made circles around an ordinary looking Winners’ Connection team that lost 3-0 on Wednesday night in the first of the last two round-of-16 matches that were played in the Turbo Knockout tournament at the Ministry of Education ground on CARIFESTA Avenue.

By half time, Mahaica were cruising with the score at 2-0 courtesy of strikes from Eon Abel in the 23rd minute and Ozese Hally in the 44th. In the second half, the Determinators only managed to triple their lead through a successful strike from Curt Adams but that half could’ve easily produced more goals. Wi n n e r s C o n n e c t i o n defended poorly throughout the match with their diminutive last backs making no case for themselves as they got away with a couple two-footed tackles and a clear foul within the box during the second half. The feature match of the evening resulted in mixed fortunes for the East Coast teams competing for the final
quarterfinal places as Buxton Stars were knocked out of the tournament after ran over by a top performance from Camptown’s Ozeal Small who smashed in two goals during both halves of the game. Small’s first came in the 14th minute, while he completed his brace six minutes before full-time to fire his team into the quarterfinals of the competition that has a top prize of $500,000. The tournament continues o next Wednesday with the first two quarterfinal matches at the Ministry of Education ground. The first game at 18:30hrs will see Police FC hunt a win against Kuru Kururu Warriors and the second match at 21:00hrs will be contested between Pele FC and Grove Hi-Tech.
International softball CUP 1 commences today Members of the participating teams at the presentation ceremony. Banks DIH Sports Club Circle Tennis (BCTT) made a clean sweep recently at the Breast Cancer Awareness Month Pink Ball circle tennis competition played at the NSC Ground Woolford Avenue. On a day which saw the sport returning to that venue after ten years Banks CTT all female won the toss and invited Victory Chasers
C i r c l e Te n n i s C l u b (VCCTC) to the middle, they made 171 – 10 with Shevon Headly scoring 40 and Shevaun Henry 38. BCTT replied with 17210; Roomma Charles got 52, Rhonda Richards 26 and Aneka Wills 15. Mixed team - BCTT won the toss and batted first scoring 182 – 5 off their 50 deliveries, Orane Paul made
40, Eon Cossiah 28 and Simone Williams 19. VCCTC were restricted to 147 – 7 in reply. Michael Trotman got 39. The following players received a medal for their outstanding performance. Softball fans on the East Bank of Essequibo will be in for a treat this weekend when the Suren Shaw organised ‘International Softball Cup1’ tournament commences today at Parika Cricket Ground. The tournament which will be played in the Open category will continue tomorrow and concluded on Sunday at the said venue. The teams set to participate are SVC All stars of New York, Hillfoot, Regal All stars, Success, Dutch 4, Omesh XI, Queen’s Softball Cricket League and Essequibo. The winning team will take home $700,000, runner’s up $100,000, MVP $100,000, man-of-the-match in the final $50,000; trophies are also up for the taking. No entrance fee is required and admission to the venue is free; gates will be opened at 11:00hrs for the final will start at 13:00hrs on Sunday. Live DJ, tassa dance troop, bouncy castle and free food will be available.
