Dear Friends,
It is with immense pride and gratitude that I look back on a year marked by growth, achievement, and progress, reflecting our community’s dedication to Gwynedd Mercy's mission and vision of “She is the Future.”
At the heart of fiscal year 2024's success is the continued advancement of The Flight Plan, our academic strategic plan focused on enhancing academic excellence, fostering holistic student development, building specialized learning pathways, and investing in outstanding faculty. Annual donor support powers these initiatives, helping students to thrive in and beyond the classroom while building the confidence to lead with compassion and courage.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors to the A Place to Soar capital campaign, we have completed our new wing ahead of schedule, officially opening its doors two months early in December 2024. This transformative project, our largest in 25 years, will significantly enrich our learning environment and underscore our ongoing efforts to meet the evolving to meet the evolving needs of our students and faculty.
We also welcomed the largest freshman class in Gwynedd’s history—128 talented young women for the Class of 2028. This growth is driven by our ongoing commitment to evaluating and enhancing our daily efforts to educate and inspire our students, the success of our graduates, and the support of donors who make it possible to students from all backgrounds to experience a transformative Mercy education.
Each of these accomplishments ensures that Gwynedd Mercy remains a place where young women are empowered to soar, explore their potential, and make a lasting impact on the world.
Thank you for helping us shape a brighter future.
In Mercy,
Denise Corkery Marbach ’72 President
On June 1, the 109 women of the Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School Class of 2024 processed in white attire into our Performing Arts Center carrying bouquets of red roses to celebrate the School’s 163rd Commencement.
During her invocation, Emily Matos expressed deep gratitude for the transformative journey shared by her class at Gwynedd Mercy and prayed for the courage and guidance to empower them to illuminate the world with their unique light and spread God’s mercy.
Salutatorian Oriana Powzaniak highlighted that the graduating class, shaped by the nurturing spirit of Gwynedd, is now ready to embrace their futures with resilience and hope. They are prepared to spread their wings, carrying the education, inspiration, and empowerment they have gained along the way.
Each member of the class was then presented to President Denise Corkery Marbach ’72 and Principal Eileen Carty to receive her graduation medal and diploma. Additional medals were awarded to graduates in recognition of outstanding school spirit, honor, service, leadership, and academic performance.
President Marbach introduced the 2024 Commencement Speaker Kelley Malott DeConciliis, Class of 1999, vice chairman of the Institute of World Politics and Chief
SHE IS THE FUTURE.
Operating Officer of Special Aerospace Security Services Inc., supporting national security within the intelligence community. Kelley emphasized the importance of resilience and the invaluable lessons learned through failure, recounting her own experiences with setbacks and adversities to illustrate how overcoming challenges can lead to unexpected opportunities and personal growth.
“The Mercy Spirit lives within each of you.”
Commencement Speaker Kelley Malott DeConciliis ’99
She urged the graduates to push beyond their comfort zones and highlighted the importance of never giving up, taking the road less traveled, and trusting the process. She concluded with ten life lessons, encouraging the graduates to harness their inner strength, rise above challenges, and remember the enduring spirit of mercy that will guide them through life’s journey.
Principal Carty then celebrated National Merit Scholarship Finalist Jenna Morrison for her exemplary achievements.
In her closing remarks, Valedictorian Dylan Burke likened the Class of 2024’s senior retreat, titled “The Road to Emmaus,” to their high school journey, highlighting the value of the journey itself rather than the destination and urging the graduates to cherish the moments and lessons learned.
Finally, the graduates, alumnae, faculty, and staff sang the Alma Mater, just before the Class of 2024 processed to the Chapel for the crowning of the Blessed Mother by Annalise Bilardo with her mother Patricia by her side.

This year’s commencement speaker, Kelley Malott DeConciliis ’99, has led a remarkable career, transitioning from the Gwynedd Mercy stage to global national security. Kelley serves as COO of Special Aerospace Security Services Inc. (SASSI), a woman-owned small business supporting national security missions, holding a top-secret clearance. She also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Institute of World Politics, mentoring the next generation of intelligence professionals.
With a degree in neuropsychology from Catholic University, Kelley began her career post-9/11, working with the Department of Homeland Security on a national biodefense prototype, which led to her start-up being acquired by Microsoft at just 26. She has spent 20 years advising on international operations, acquisitions, counter-bioterrorism, and exfiltration services, managing missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia.
Kelley has held leadership roles across global organizations, including serving as Chairman of the International Stability Operations Association, which supports contractors operating in high-threat regions. She also ran medical programs for the Defense Health Agency and managed USAID’s second-largest supply chain for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in 16 African countries.
In August 2021, as the U.S. military withdrew from Afghanistan, Kelley volunteered her expertise to rescue Afghan schoolgirls and U.S. allies. Despite balancing a full-time job and raising three young children, she led covert operations to exfiltrate students and families, using cover stories and safe houses to help them escape the Taliban. Her unwavering commitment to justice and mercy continues through her work on clandestine missions, doing what she can to make the world a safer place.
Gwynedd proudly presents the destinations where graduates will continue pursuits of higher education. All have been admitted to four-year colleges and universities.

It is with immense pride and excitement that the educators at Gwynedd Mercy introduce our new Academic Strategic Plan, The Flight Plan.
This plan is designed to elevate and inspire our students’ educational journey, nurturing them to become academically accomplished, compassionate leaders ready to make a meaningful impact on the world.
The Flight Plan is our commitment to academic excellence, with four phases that coincide with the four academic years: Explore, Engage, Lead, and Launch. Throughout their time at GMAHS, students will be equipped to soar to new heights as the leaders of tomorrow,” says Dr. Melissa Sullivan, Dean of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
The Flight Plan encompasses 13 projects that each address one of four pillars: holistic student development, specialized learning pathways, academic excellence, and outstanding faculty. These initiatives were chosen to ensure that each student is empowered and supported—allowing her to reach her fullest potential.
Ensuring the holistic well-being of each student is fundamental to a Gwynedd education, especially in a time when social media, college prep, and packed schedules increase stress and anxiety. In a hectic world, we want our girls to explore their interests, engage with their communities, lead with confidence, and launch into their futures with resilience.
Projects include a review of our Wellness Wheel curriculum, the development of a Student Advisory Program, and updates to our clubs and activities offerings. The Flight Plan reinforces our commitment to service-learning by incorporating meaningful community engagement into the Theology curriculum. Students participate in service projects that address real-world issues. By combining service with reflection and advocacy, our students develop a lifelong dedication to social responsibility and the Mercy tradition of compassionate action.
By providing initiatives, services, and resources to support various dimensions of well-being, we help our girls develop a strong sense of self-worth, promote empathy and compassion for themselves and others, and thrive in the classroom and beyond.
Rather than delivering the same curriculum to every Gwynedd student, our goal is to promote self-discovery and innovation by creating specialized programs that stimulate creative, individualized learning. To do this, we want students to take courses and participate in activities that fuel their passions and complement unique strengths. Components of The Flight Plan include the creation of Concentration Programs in areas such as Innovation and Global Connections. The Global Connections program enhances students' cross-cultural awareness and competencies through an integrated approach that combines curriculum, hands-on research, and action-oriented projects with co-curricular activities. The Innovation and Invention concentration challenges students to explore their creativity and develop advanced problem-solving skills through intensive STEM coursework and independent research projects that empower them to apply and expand their learning in meaningful ways.
These initiatives allow Gwynedd faculty to customize educational pathways for our students, deepen knowledge of the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy, and offer opportunities for more rigorous and in-depth study for our most academically ambitious students, enabling them to compete on the national stage.
In a world where endless information can be found with a few clicks or scrolling on a smart phone, teaching our students to think critically, problem-solve, and innovate is our priority. We strive to prepare students for life beyond the red and gold corridors. Through The Flight Plan initiatives, we have developed grade-specific frameworks designed to meet the unique developmental needs of each class. By emphasizing highly effective assessments, we ensure that every Gwynedd Girl is equipped for a successful future.
To further enhance academic rigor and provide a seamless transition to higher education, we are excited to introduce a new Dual Enrollment opportunity called “Economics and Entrepreneurship” at Gwynedd. This dual-enrollment program is offered in partnership with the University of Delaware’s Horn Entrepreneurship Center, enabling students to earn 3 undergraduate credits while also receiving high school class credit. Working with the University of Delaware allows us to offer courses that challenge our students academically and expose them to collegiate-level coursework.
Responding to our students’ thirst for academic challenge, we have also expanded our Advanced Placement (AP) offerings to 21 courses, including AP Statistics, Calculus AB and BC, Environmental Science, Human Geography, Comparative Government, Computer Science, and more. This increase provides a broader range of subjects for students to delve into at a college level, promoting critical thinking and intellectual exploration.
We could not accomplish all our goals without the passionate support of our faculty. That is why we made the Gwynedd faculty the focus of one of the pillars of The Flight Plan. Our plan will help faculty to collaborate as both learners and educators, acting as role models while they continuously expand their knowledge alongside their students.
One of the plan’s projects is aimed at supporting faculty members with cyclical departmental reviews and audits to ensure their alignment with best practices in content and pedagogy. Faculty are also enriched with frequent technology trainings, provided by our new Education Technology Coordinator, James Bender. We believe that when our faculty are excited about learning, their enthusiasm will extend to their classrooms of students.
As we step into this promising new future, we invite each member of our community to join us and our students in supporting The Flight Plan. Together, we will empower our students to explore, engage, lead, and launch themselves into a world filled with limitless possibilities. With unwavering faith in their potential, we are confident that our girls are not just part of the future—they are the future. Together, we can ensure they have every opportunity to soar to new heights.
Thanks to the generosity of alumnae, parents, grandparents, and friends—including a $1 million gift from the Connelly Foundation—the A Place to Soar campaign has achieved its $7 million goal. Opened two months early in December 2024, the new wing is helping students thrive with vibrant dining and gathering areas, four modern learning spaces, and an expanded counseling center. We are deeply grateful to the more than 250 donors who made this vision a reality. This report celebrates those who contributed $5,000 or more, whose names will be proudly displayed on the Donor Wall in the new wing.

Sr. Susan devoted 33 years to Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School as a cherished French teacher, inspiring generations of students with her passion for language and culture. Beyond the classroom, she served tirelessly as Director of Activities, skillfully managing club schedules and orchestrating beloved traditions such as Candlelight, the Junior Ring Mass, and Commencement. She truly lived the values of Mercy Education through her unwavering compassion and service and leaves a lasting legacy at GMA as a beloved Sister of Mercy.
Mr. Eby devoted 25 years as the Director of Facilities at Gwynedd Mercy, ensuring the upkeep and enhancement of the 1955 school building. His expertise also contributed to the completion of three major additions: the Arts and Learning Commons wing; the Lobby, Chapel, and Performing Arts Center; and most recently, the Monarch Wing, introducing new community, dining, counseling, and learning spaces, benefiting students today and generations to come.
