Welcome to Naples, NY! It’s amazing what this beloved, quaint village has to offer its visitors. Naples is like no other town in the Finger Lakes, boasting a reputed 18-hole golf course, a live summer theater, three wineries, two breweries, a distillery, shops, and a surprising variety of unique, mouth-watering eateries.

Naples is also home to Joseph’s Wayside Market, a large open air farm market that has been a Finger Lakes destination for over 65 years. Another year-round must-see destination is Artizann’s Gifts from the Finger Lakes, a two-story gallery featuring over 200 artists of all genres. Don’t forget to visit beautiful Grimes Glen, located right inside the village limits, which features a one-mile water-walk and two cascading waterfalls.

Naples is home to some of the most diverse and acclaimed hiking trails just a stone’s throw from the village: Hi-Tor, Conklin Gully, Clarks Gorge and Cumming Nature Center, just to name a few. Naples is also known for its music shows at its multiple venues

for live music with artists varying from soloists to full bands. Then, of course, there’s the Naples Grape Festival in September, one of the most iconic festivals in the Finger Lakes since 1961. Along with the Grape Festival comes other Naples autumn traditions like grape pie (thousands and thousands are sold every year) and Jerome’s U-Pick Grape Farm.

Naples is a beautiful and fun place to visit, no matter what the season. It’s an outdoor mecca for hiking, fishing (April 1st Naples Rainbow Trout Derby), biking, and skiing. There is even an 18-hole disc golf course and a pump track for bicycle enthusiasts.

Welcome to Naples Nestled among the wooded hills of Naples Valley, the Village of Naples, already well-known for its annual Naples Grape Festival, now offers even more to love. Situated just 7 miles off the southern shores of Canandaigua Lake, Naples is a must-see Finger Lakes destination. Naples Mayor Brian Schenk shares his perspective on the town’s rich history, irresistible charm, and attractive future.

Naples, the Southern Gateway to Ontario County, is an extraordinarily historic town established just after the American Revolution. Its many historic sites, homes, and its cemetery have made it a popular vacation spot for nostalgia seekers and history buffs alike. “Naples has a rich history, and our efforts are two-fold: to preserve its stories which have national implications on many levels, and preserving its structures, as well,” stated Mayor Schenk.

Even so, some modernizations are beneficial, such as the development and installation of Naples’ new public sewer infrastructure, replacing several aged septic tanks with this more sanitary system. “Our public sewer infrastructure is now a model for New York State, and I was honored with the very prestigious Frank E. Van Laer award,” Mayor Schenk stated.

Mayor Schenk observed that all Naples residents seem to have the same mindset. “Whether people have been here two months, two years, or all of their lives, everyone seems to immediately immerse themselves in Naples history and culture,” he said.

“Part of what makes Naples special is that people relate to it as if they have been here all their lives.”

When the pandemic hit, the Naples community stood strong. “Naples has a long-standing history of its citizens coming together at any time no matter the need,” said Mayor Schenk. “People banded together and organized assistance for those in need. It was all about helping each other.”

Taking care of each other is a mindset also embraced by the Naples business community, encouraging economic growth. “Naples has grown its local economy by at least 7 businesses during the pandemic, and a number of factors are responsible for that,” Mayor Schenk enthused. “One factor was the launching of a local development group.

All of the necessary pieces were in the right place

at the right time.” These new businesses include restaurants and microbreweries, among others.

While still known for local wine and iconic grape pies (It is “Grape Pie Capitol of the World, after all!), Naples is expanding its interest in the arts. “We are becoming an epicenter for music,” Mayor Schenk said. “Naples has many venues for enjoying music, including a very small park downtown. We plan to… encourage music to simply happen.” More local music will pair well with Naples’ live theatre shows and its Finger Lakes artists and creators.

“People in Naples have a lot of passion and a lot of courage,” Mayor Schenk praised. “In the midst of a pandemic, several of them were brave enough to walk right into opening and inventing new businesses.

That is who they are: the right people with the right mindset. None of this happened by chance, and more is yet to come. We have only just begun.”

Start with a half­mile flat hike along the pristine Naples Creek be­fore making a left turn (east) away from the creek. Along the way, you will experience increasingly better views of the Naples Valley and have the op­tion to stop at a resting area with waterfall views.

8 - Grimes Glen Loop Trail Blazed with purple discs, connects to the Bristol Hills Branch Trail and gives foot travelers a route past wineries, restau­rants, historical sites and natural wonders.

the expansive forested ridge rising 1,100 feet above Naples’ northwest side (behind Hazlitt Winery). It consists of diverse surroundings where people enjoy hiking, walking, trail running, viewing wildlife, and nature excursions along this pathway.

3 - Conklin’s Gully Rim Trail The Conklin Gully Rim Trail is a moderately difficult loop that is often quite steep, and at times narrow. It is well marked with yellow blazes. With this seemingly unending steep-grade hike comes great beauty, and two large waterfalls sprinkled with many smaller ones. Once you reach the top, there is a beautiful view of the valley, and an overlook of Angel Falls.

4 - High Tor Trail Head Along this route of High Tor,

you will descend with great views of the Naples Valley and finish with a ½ mile flat hike along the pristine Naples Creek.

5 - Clark’s Gully Clark’s Gully South Hill Trail is a 1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail. It is named after Col. William Clark, who first settled in Italy Valley in 1790s. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from April until September.

6 - Gannett Hill Trail takes you to The Jump Off, which provides a stunning view of the surrounding area. The pathway has many exciting features, including a beaver dam with high beaver activity, such as partially gnawed trees and freshly harvest­ ed saplings in the beaver pond’s edge. Lush forest, large boulders, and wildflowers adorn your ambling pathway. Enjoy hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching along your journey.

a moderately trafficked loop trail that features beautiful wildflowers, stun­ning views, and wildlife viewing. This pathway is adjacent to Boy Scout property, Camp Cutler.

There are numerous off-shooting trails that, while intriguing, could lead you in circles and, as a result, we recommend following the Finger Lakes Trail through this region. Hike this path as an in-out hike, or you could park a car or bike on the Clement Rd parking lot to make it a through hike.

9 - Conklin’s Gully 12 Falls Trail is a 3.4 miles long trek up the creek bed. Be prepared to get your feet wet! This is a difficult hike, but is gorgeous and full of waterfalls that range from 5-50 feet! Once you reach the top of the second larger falls, you can cut off to the left side where there is a service road that leads to Parrish Road, and back to the parking lot at the base. Or, of course, you can head back down the way you came, but we recommend taking Parrish Hill Road back down.

10 - DEC: 245 to High Tor Short Loop This is an ideal trail run with over a 1,200 ft gain and 6+ miles!

You’ll descend with great views of the Naples Valley and finish with a ½ mile flat journey along the pristine Naples Creek.

11- Cumming Nature Center (CNC)

is a dynam­ic environmental education center that celebrates the unique landscape and culture of the Finger Lakes region through hands-on learning opportuni­ties and thoughtful exhibits. The much-anticipated restaurant at the Naples Hotel is slated to open its doors in Spring 2022! Renamed The Social Restaurant & Taproom, the space is currently experiencing the final touches of an impressive renovation and restoration. The proprietors Kevin and Leeann Barton, of Barton Hospitality, Inc. are excited to reveal their new hospitality spaces to the Naples community.

Guests of The Social Hour will enjoy casual fine dining, set in twenties style nostalgia; surrounded by luxurious floor to ceiling drapery and sparkling crystal chandeliers.

Executive Chef Tony Peters of Barton Hospitality INC. will be leading guests into a new world of culinary experiences. The magic will take place in the hotel’s completely renovated and remodeled kitchen, rebuilt from

Along with The Social Restaurant & Taproom, Barton Hospitality, Inc. has already opened “The Little Easy” event space downstairs at the Naples Hotel. This sophisticated speakeasy-style space can accommodate 50-75 people for a variety of special

occasions including engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, birthdays, anniversaries, receptions, baby showers, and more. Featuring custom catering, a separate bar and skilled staff, the Little Easy will be an affordable option to host your next event. When not booked for events, the Little Easy will host pop-up speakeasy nights featuring a full bar, select boutique cocktails and a customized tapas menu to keep guests curious and engaged. The Little Easy is open by reservation for events and will be open to the public for pop up speakeasy nights or live entertainment.

With the arrival of warmer weather, the Bartons hope to open up the Naples’ Hotel porch area and side alley for dining, particularly for specialty grill nights. Regardless of the weather, however, guests are invited to make their way to The Social’s nostalgia-evoking, vintage bar, reminiscent of decadent cigar rooms of days gone by. All in all, it’s a perfect place for lounging while live music keeps the atmosphere fun and welcoming.

Roots Cafe Mandy Gorton can be described as a “hands-on owner” of the Roots Cafe in Naples, a phrase that has her approval. In fact, Gorton is such a handson owner that her father called her the restaurant’s owner and head dishwasher! A lot of people might take that description as disrespectful; however, Gorton sees it more as a compliment. She looks at her dad’s statement as a proud description of the café’s hard-working and familial staff, an estimate with which she agrees.

The Roots Cafe, which is located at 197 N Main Street in Naples, is a restaurant that primarily focuses on serving local, farm-to-table meals that provide a healthy food alternative to families in the Canandaigua Lake area. The Café purchases most of its food options from locally based food and drink businesses throughout the Naples area. A few examples of these businesses include Sweet Grass Farms, which provides beef and lamb to the cafe, Bostrom Farms, which gives the cafe fresh-cut meat every day, and Komorebi Kombucha, one of the cafe’s providers of locally made kombucha.

Another unique feature of the Roots Cafe is that it is located right next door to Inspire Moore Winery.

Customers can take advantage of this providential placement by stopping by the winery for some drinks while waiting to get a table at the café. Space allows a limited number of tables in the café; however, guests may call ahead to make reservations.

Recently, Roots Café has expanded its seating options by adding an outdoor dining section right next to the restaurant. This outdoor section, which can be used year-round, contains both a patio and an outdoor deck. This gives guests an al fresco dining experience which some may prefer over eating indoors. Gorton also takes pride in the fact that her cafe has a small, but loyal, clientele who dine with her year-round, faithful through population swells in the summer and dips in the winter.

Gorton also appreciates the fact that her staff, herself included, are willing to help out in any way that they can, including preparing food, cleaning tables, and helping out customers and the community. “Our staff is very close to each other,” says Gorton. “We act almost as a second family.” As such, the cafe provides a close-knit environment for the people of Naples and its surrounding communities.

Roots Café is open for lunch and dinner Thursday through Saturday. On Sunday, it opens especially for brunch only. Lunch and Brunch hours are 11 am to 3 pm, and dinner hours run from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Lock Stock Bar & Grill Opening in 2020, after changing hands and an incredible remodel, Lock Stock Bar & Grill has quickly become a Naples area favorite. Under the talented leadership of Kevin and Leeann Barton (Barton Hospitality, Inc.) the menu was revamped, the bar remodeled with a newly added draft cooler, and the completely gutted kitchen brought Lock Stock back into the Naples hospitality scene as a favored spot to dine all year.

Now, having entered their first ski season with no pandemic restrictions, the Bartons are looking forward to all they will be able to offer. Many exciting changes are underway at Lock Stock. A new front walkway installed last summer now welcomes guests from all walks. Whether bikers driving up or boaters coming off the lake, as warmer weather arrives, Lock Stock’s front yard will begin its transformation into an outdoor dining space with a beer garden feel. Already, Lock Stock’s seasonal outdoor dining includes an impressive 22 tables, more than doubling their seating capacity. Live music on the weekends will follow into the summer; and is to include an impressive roster with popular bands such as “A Girl Named Genny,” to continue amplifying a welcoming and fun atmosphere throughout the season.

Being the parents of two young children, Kevin and Leeann are adamant that Lock Stock continues to grow as a positive, family-friendly space, welcoming guests of all ages. The Bartons relocated full-time to the area in summer 2020 and continue to branch out into Naples. The Social Restaurant & Taproom and The Little Easy Event Space, both located at the Naples Hotel, are both slated to open fully in Spring of 2022.

all walks of life, from young professionals, couples and families to those enjoying their retirement and beyond. With the assistance of new media manager Kahlie Higgins, Barton Hospitality will be better able to share future happenings and events with the Naples community.

Upcoming Lock Stock summer events include enjoyable offerings such as dog-friendly “yappy hour on the lawn,” outdoor yoga, Beer and BBQ dinners, and live entertainment. Popular winter events include Lock Stock’s Annual Anniversary party, and 90’s themed end of season apres ski event where the restaurant’s celebratory atmosphere will only be heightened with incredible giveaways of skis, skateboard decks, goggles…and even tickets for Bristol Mountain!

Another important change coming to Lock Stock is the departure of Executive Chef Tony Peters. Peters will be taking up the role of Executive Chef at the Barton’s newest venture: The Social Restaurant & Taproom at the Naples Hotel. Chef Tony Peters has played a key role in the culinary transformation of Lock Stock Bar & Grill by elevating its dishes, introducing popular seasonal specials, and establishing a high standard both in terms of quality and consistency.

Stepping into the vacant position at Lock Stock will be Scott Peters. “He came to us on the recommendation of his brother, Tony, and has quickly became ‘part of Lock’s family.’ Scott is incredibly talented in areas such as homestyle cooking and comes with his own set of strengths that we are excited to highlight this coming summer and into winter as he makes our menu his own and continues to uphold the high standards for which Lock Stock has become known.”

Old School Cafe Nestled in local Naples, NY, you can find an abundance of classic beauty, breathtaking hiking trails, nature preserves, vineyards and wineries, and the Old School Café. Since it was opened in August of 2021, Old School Café might be one of the few restaurants you travel to created in a former oneroom schoolhouse. According to owner and creator Trish Aser, that is simply a part of its unique and quaint charm.

“We chose this building for the restaurant for a few reasons. It has a lot of character, which added charm to the environment. I think one of the things that a lot of people notice right away is that the space is warm and welcoming. It’s very rustic. Everyone says they feel comfortable here.”

Trish Aser and co-owner Joe Scardilla bring a rich history of restaurant experience and culinary ability with them to this newly opened café. Aser herself is also the co-owner of the successful Brown Hound Downtown Bistro in Rochester, NY, while partner Joe Scardilla grew up in the restaurant industry with familyowned Conesus Inn on Conesus Lake. Aser adds, “I started Brown Hound Bistro, and Joe came from the Conesus Inn. Together, we both have a great synergy and complimentary skills that really set us up for working well together in a restaurant environment.”

Combining their expertise, Aser and Scardilla have created a menu that is chiefly focused around delicious homemade pastries, breakfast and brunch, coffee, and espresso in tandem with an assortment of liquor and beer options. Brunch dining has never looked so savory with selections such as: buttermilk waffles, salmon toast, Korean chicken and waffles, delectable homemade soup, salads, fresh from the oven 7-grain bread, sunshine French toast, Mexican breakfast poutines, cinnamon rolls, s’more brownies, and so much more.

It’s no surprise that Old School Café is quickly becoming known as a favorite among foodies and a restaurant staple in the Finger Lakes Region. Located just a short ten-minute drive from Bristol Mountain, Old School Café offers a space that is unique and thoughtful in design. “I wanted to include foods that I love to eat,” says Aser. The result? A casual, “brunchy” atmosphere which offers a friendly and welcoming dining experience to all.

September 24 & 25, 2022 Proudly Presented by the Naples Rotary Club & the Naples Historical Society The Naples Grape Festival is one of the most well-known events of the Finger Lakes Region. Every September as the hills surrounding Naples begin to become alive with fall foliage, Concord grapes are being prepped for this area’s most famous grape pies! Grape Pie Season, along with the Grape Festival, turns this little Mayberryesque Village of Naples into a town overflowing with excitement for everything grape. The Historic Naples Grape Festival raises crucial funds for the Naples Rotary Club and the Naples Historical Society, thanks to the Festival’s talented artisans, a variety of musicians, delicious cuisine, area winemakers, and of course, grape pies.

The Grape Festival has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. The Festival was and continues to be a celebration of the local Naples Valley grape harvest, and, for decades, it has celebrated the uniqueness of the Naples community and its hard-working, creative, and friendly residents! Over the years, the Festival has included parades, carnivals, street dances, and grapestomping as well as arts, crafts, great foods, and beverages. One of the biggest highlights is the yearly “World’s Greatest Grape Pie Contest,” held on the Festival grounds. Naples takes great pride in being the Grape Pie Capital of the World, paying close attention to providing a rewarding experience at the Festival. In fact, The Naples Grape Festival has been the recipient of the Finger Lakes Region’s Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Festival in the Finger Lakes” for a number of years including 2021.

The Naples Grape Festival 2022 will be even more special! According to Jo Anne Alliet, Director of Operations, “The Festival will continue to have the Historic Naples Grape Festival on September 24-25, 2022, from 10:00am-5:00pm at the Naples Memorial Town Hall grounds and the South parking lot of Naples Central School.” The Festival will continue to boast artisans, craftsmen, music, and wine tastings while celebrating everything grape with traditional jams and jellies, grape slushies, baskets of grapes, and grape pie, which remains front and center both days of the festival. Local bakers sell thousands of grape pies during the harvest season and during the Festival. If you haven’t had grape pie, it is a must-try!

You can find Grape Pies throughout the town during the festival and year-round.

For almost a decade, the Historic Naples Grape Festival has hosted its extraordinarily popular wine tasting area featuring regional wines, craft brewers, and distilleries of the Finger Lakes Region. The BrahmMoore Wine and Craft Beverage Garden located on the grounds at the Memorial Town Hall is a wonderful introduction to some of the best wineries and brew crafters in the area. ID is required and guests do pay an admission fee to experience all available tastings.

The Historic Naples Grape Festival is also host to local and regional musicians showcasing a diversity of music sure to get your toes tapping. The music tent is located on the grounds of the Memorial Town Hall.

With music, grape pies, a beverage garden, local artists and craftsmen, a picturesque village surrounded by a colorful hillside, what more could we offer?

“As of a result of a recent survey conducted about the Grape Festival, we are working to improve the Festival experience by looking into more activities for kids, looking into creating a shuttle service from remote parking to the festival, better traffic control, and adding special events for community residents to enjoy,” said Tom Hawks II, President and Director of Special Events of the Naples Grape and Arts Festival, LLC. According to Hawks, Naples Grape Festival 2022 is moving to a week-long format by adding community-focused activities for everyone to enjoy! It will begin the weekend before the Historic Naples Grape Festival - starting Friday, September 16th to coincide with the Naples Central School Homecoming 2022 (September 16th-17th).

Naples will have the first-ever Naples Grape Festival Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday, September 16th at 9 pm to kick off the Festival and Homecoming.

On Saturday, September 17th at 10:00 am on Main Street, the Naples Grape Festival Parade will return with a newly crowned king and queen! That very same evening from 6:00 - 9:00 pm, the Naples Grape Festival Street Dance in front of the Naples Hotel—featuring our very own local musicians—will commence!

Another exciting new event will take place on Sunday, September 18th: The Naples Grape Festival Local Hobbyist Winemaker’s Competition. All local home-based winemakers are encouraged to enter.

In addition to the Winemaker’s Competition, come enjoy our local culinary talents with a Chili Cook-off Competition. All are welcome!

Thursday Evening, September 22nd, the first annual Grape Country “Boots & Blue Jeans” Gala will take place! It will be a wonderful time to bring your friends and family to celebrate the kick-off of the Historic Naples Grape Festival with delicious barbecue catered by Naples’ own Grove Boys BBQ Catering, featuring local beverages, a live band, and dancing—all at the beautiful Parrish Hill Barn.

To help fund all these local community events, (fireworks, parade, street dance, winemakers’ competition, and the chili cook-off), the Naples Grape and Arts Festival, LLC will be launching a “$2 for ‘22 - Naples Grape Festival Community Events Campaign.” “If everyone chips in a couple of dollars, we can make it all happen,” says Hawks.

This Year the Naples Grape Festival 2022 is celebrating the Naples Community and all that it has to offer. Inspire Moore Winery was founded by Timothy and Diane Moore in 2007. Looking back on their experiences, Diane comments that Timothy, her late husband, had always wanted to have his own winery.

When they moved to the Finger Lakes, the couple fell in love with the area, so when Timothy turned 40, they decided to go for it. The Moores purchased the property on which the winery sits in 2006, renovated the space by turning a carriage house into a winery, and opened their doors the following year.

The beautiful Naples, NY winery has a unique brand. The name itself demonstrates that the couple wanted it to be more than just another winery. The Moores wanted to give back to their community and the world. They came up with the winery’s name to represent their desire to inspire more positive things in the world. Every wine is named after something we’d all like to see more of, such as Love, Harmony, Peace, Joy, Rhythm, and Wisdom.

Hazlitt This past November, the Hazlitt Red Cat Cellars celebrated its tenth year of operation in Naples. Even though it has only been open for a relatively short amount of time, it has accomplished quite a bit in those ten years.

Starting off with only 14 employees, the cellars have since grown to employ 53 full-time workers, along with 10-12 temporary workers. The cellars, which are located on West Avenue between Tobey Street and Lake Niagara Lane, have also expanded to include its own beverage production company, East Coast Crush and Co-Pack, a tasting room, a brewery, and a recreational trail located the woods next to the cellars.

Hazlitt president Dan DeBell said that it was a risk to open the cellars in Naples, both in terms of growth and finances. However, through the help of the community and an economic development grant from New York State, the cellars were able to grow and have a positive impact on the local economy and community.

One of the primary reasons why Hazlitt wanted to open a cellar in Naples is that the company need a bigger space to produce more wine. This was due

to a growing demand for their products and because the cellar’s main headquarters in Hector wasn’t big enough to produce the quantity they needed. Its Naples wine cellars have become an important part of the Hazlitt 1852 Winery company, founded in 1985.

While Hazlitt was established just under 40 years ago, the land in Hector, where its original winery is located, has been producing wine since the 1850s, hence the year in the winery’s name. James and Clarissa Hazlitt first bought 152 acres of land outside of Hector in 1852 and started to produce wine on the property shortly afterwards. The land was passed down through subsequent generations of Hazlitt children until the 1980s, when the property belonged to Jerry Hazlitt and his wife Elaine. Faced with the possible necessity of selling the farm due to falling crop circles, Jerry and Elaine decided to keep the farm running and opened the Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards.

The winery will be releasing a new wine seltzer in the next few months in New York to go along with their world-famous Red Cat wine, which is one of the best-selling wine brands in New York. The cellars in Naples are open Friday to Monday from 11 am-5 pm, and visitors are always welcome. In warmer months, guests can also enjoy Hazlitt’s hiking trail in Naples, which is 0.7 miles long and is located on the old Widmer Winery vineyards, is open daily from May to October between sunrise and sunset.

Grape Pie For over 60 years, Naples has been home to the famous grape pie, a staple in upstate New York and an emerging delicacy for dessert fans. The recipe originated from Irene Bouchard who made the first pies for Al Hodges, owner of the local Redwood Restaurant, as a way to attract new customers.

Known as the “Grape Capital of the World,” the pie is just one of the many ways locals create and celebrate the abundance of grape harvests in the Naples Valley.

The star of this famous dessert is Concord grapes which are harvested, skinned, rinsed, and smashed to create an irresistible filling.

While it is difficult to make, it is a labor of love that is worth the hard work for those who have mastered the recipe of this town’s prized pastry. There are many ways to make this delicious indulgence, but local experts boil it down to 3 key steps:

1) Use Quality Ingredients – Fresh Concord grapes and a nice flaky crust take the spotlight here, so local bakers recommend keeping the other ingredients simple. Most grape pies consist of just a few elements – grapes, a thickening agent, a sweetener and your favorite pie crust recipe. “When you’re using quality, locally grown grapes, there’s no reason to mess with the flavor. Just let the grapes shine,” says Matt Cadrette of Cindy’s Pies, a local bakery serving grape pies and other scratch-made goods.

2) Allow Ample Time – This recipe takes a while to master and is time consuming from start to finish. Give yourself enough time to make the filling and crust separately as the Concord variety, which differs from traditional grapes, take time to prepare. Split the grapes one by one before preparing the filling and bake the crust shell and topping separately. This allows the crust to fully cook without getting soggy from the liquid filling.

Once cooled, you can put the two together to compile your final delicacy.

3) Make It Your Own – Everyone’s version of grape pie is slightly unique. Be sure to put your own special twist on it. Whether it is how you prepare the crust (such as mixing in a little of the filling for extra flavor) or creating a crumb topping instead of a traditional one, there are plenty of ways to make this one-of-a-kind dessert your own.

In town you will find varieties both traditional and new, appealing to all kinds of pie enthusiasts. Grape pie even earns the spotlight at the annual Naples Grape Festival, held every September. Here, pie makers take center stage to share their sweet treat with the world. The festival certainly draws large crowds, but the pie is popular beyond just the event, with more than 60,000 pies sold annually.

4 cups stemmed Concord grapes 2/3 cup sugar 3 tbsp cornstarch 1 tsp lemon juice

1. Slip skins from grapes, saving some of the skins.

2. Cook middles until soft, put through a sieve to get seeds out.

3. Put back with skins and add sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice.

4. Fill pie shell and cover.

5. Bake 400 degrees for 45 minutes.

Situated at the intersection of roads leading to Naples, Cohocton and Wayland, the Olde Country Store stands, boasting a rich 170-year history. While the building itself has been there since 1873, there has been a store on the property since 1849, with historical references to the earliest store (likely a log structure) around 1843/1844. The store changed owners throughout time and in 170 years it has only been closed from 2008 to 2015.

After frequent summer visits to the store while visiting their family farm in Naples, Jeffrey H. Wells and his daughters Jenny and Denise decided to move from Germany back to his hometown and reopen the store in 2015, renaming it to The Olde Country Store and More ~ 1849. The shop has a wide selection of local food and craft products as well as unique German imports that you can’t find anywhere else in the area.

Inside you will find a variety of local treats, crafts, and treasures, but it is most well-known for its wide selection of old-fashioned candy, carrying over 400 types of bulk candy, bars and other sweet treats. It also offers a diverse array of local foods such as maple syrup, honey, sauces and dressing and local craft items such as paintings, soaps, décor, and jewelry.

In the “German Corner” of the store, you will find imported German specialty foods and original Lauscha ornaments which come from the home of the first glass Christmas ornaments. In December, the family hosts a holiday shopping event on the first three weekends leading up to Christmas with local craft vendors upstairs in the “Wetmore Hall,” an authentic German dinner, and photos with Santa for everyone.

The Wells Family is also the creator and home of the famous “Green Heart of the Finger Lakes” which is a heart-shaped graphic that represents the position of the lakes and the surrounding area. The graphic is a culmination of three basic elements; a heart to represent love and endearment, the color green which stands for life, renewal and nature, and the color blue which is commonly associated with depth and stability. Local vendors create everything from t-shirts, mugs, glasses, stickers and more with this iconic logo, which can be seen all around the Finger Lakes, and even in other parts of the country.

The Olde Country Store and More is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm during the months of March to December (it is closed each year in January and February) and offers a wide selection of products, fresh baked goods, seasonal specials, and even homemade soup served each Saturday!

Monier Manor Monier Manor is a quaint, historic Bed and Breakfast in Naples, NY. Opening its doors in 2004, the B&B started out with four rooms. Now due to Covid-19 precautions, the residence has two rooms and hosts one family at a time. The 6,000 sq. ft. Italianate Manor home was built during the Civil War, so one could say there’s some history to the building. In fact, the Manor used to house panels, fake walls, and even a tunnel.

Although two fires and necessary renovations have resulted in some changes to the property, Monier Manor has a vintage, blissful aura that’ll have you booking stay after stay.

Monier Manor is unlike most other B&Bs or Airbnbs you’ve probably seen. Property manager Donna Nichols takes pride in its traditional Bed and Breakfast, high-end, vintage feel. The Naples Hotel has been a welcoming stop for travelers since 1895. It is the oldest continually running hotel in Ontario County. This was an essential stopping point for travelers going between Canandaigua and Bath, and other routes. Originally built with 30 guest rooms, the Naples Hotel has welcomed tens, if not hundreds of thousands of overnight and long-term guests since construction. The hotel has had multiple owners and operators over its past 127 years, currently landing at the feet of Tom & Destiny Salviski.

When Tom & Destiny decided to purchase the Naples Hotel in early 2020, the duo hoped to achieve quick success running this well-known establishment.

When they took ownership in March 2020, the COVID pandemic was just beginning, and the world had just entered an uncertain lockdown period. Not to be deterred, they forged ahead – using the downtime to conduct significant upgrades and renovations to the hotel suites and restaurant.

While the Naples Hotel most recently has been known as a fun place for bands, food & drinks, the remodeled guest suites upstairs have become quite spectacular. There are ten guest suites on the second and third floors that are spacious and welcoming. Each room is unique, and is named after a local wine or legacy Naples business, and decorated accordingly. The 2020 and 2021 season for the hotel saw a fair share of travelers to the Naples area. With the pandemic in full effect, more and more people decided to avoid flights and overseas travel, and stuck close to their home base. Annual Naples Creek Rainbow Trout Derby Naples Creek flows through the Village of Naples before continuing north and emptying into the southern shores of Canandaigua Lake. Its fresh rippling waters attract a variety of wildlife, but perhaps it is most well-known for its rainbow trout. So popular are these trout, in fact, that Naples Rotary organizes the Naples Creek Rainbow Trout Derby each year.

Why Rainbow Trout?

Early each spring as the warming sunshine begins to melt the glacial waterways of the Finger Lakes, rainbow trout start to make their journey up Naples Creek from tributaries such as Grimes Creek, Eelpot Creek, and Tannery Creek. These rainbow trout then travel up Naples Creek to lay their eggs before returning home. During this annual run, visitors watch as rainbow trout, several in excess of 8-10 pounds, leap in and out of the water, their opalescent silver scales glinting in the sun.

How did Naples’ derby tradition start?

Naples Rotary Club launched its first Naples Creek Rainbow Derby in 1961. The event quickly became a favorite area attraction, drawing hundreds of men, women, and children to Naples Creek from across New York and beyond, including a large following from the Buffalo area. “It has become a generational tradition,” said Mike Joseph of Naples Valley Visitor’s Association.

“Any sportsman or sportswoman who has been coming to the derby tries to bring their son and daughter, too.”

Although the number of attendees has decreased significantly in recent years, an average of 400-500 participants or more still gather for the derby every April 1st. Additional rules have been added, including reducing the limit of entries to one fish. A variety of contest categories include longest fish for male, female, boy, and girl anglers respectively as well as senior anglers, not to mention specialty categories for local and youth participants. A leaderboard with all the categories is updated throughout the competition, adding to the excitement. The leaderboard is updated at the Naples Volunteer Fire Department / Maxfield

Derby participants simply pay $10 for adults and $5 for children under 16 years of age and go out to the creek to catch their fish. All proceeds support the Naples Rotary Club’s community service projects.

Derby officials sit outside and monitor the activities, measure the fish, and update the leaderboard. People are encouraged to carry on the longstanding tradition of fishing in this annual event. Join us at for fun and fellowship at the fire hall at the end of day where trophies and prizes are awarded to recognize the top positions of each category! We also finish drawing prizes from our raffle, and every angler is automatically in the running for those prizes, too.

Naples Cleveland House Awarded a 2021 Technical Assistance Grant Preservation efforts across 14 counties were selected to receive funding totaling over $62,000

The Preservation League of New York State and their program partners at the New York State Council on the Arts, Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, and Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area are thrilled to announce the recipients of their 2021 Technical Assistance Grants.

The Naples Historical Society has been awarded a grant in the amount of $2,685 for a Cleveland House Foundation analysis. The analysis and final report will be conducted by Bero Architecture in Rochester, NY. “We are delighted to be the recipient of this grant that will guide us in our preservation efforts of the Cleveland House,” announced Trish Lambiase, President of the Naples Historical Society.

The Cleveland House in Naples, NY was built by Ephraim Cleveland, a Revolutionary War Captain.

It was the first frame structure built after pioneers arrived in this area in 1790. The home remains nearly intact as it was originally built in 1794. On the walls of a second-floor bedchamber is stenciling believed to be done by Naples’s resident Stephen Clark completed around 1828.

The preservation/restoration of the Cleveland House, especially the stenciling in the bedchamber, is of highest priority as buckling in the walls is evident. This foundation assessment will give the historical society needed guidance to establish a budget, timeline and set fundraising goals to stabilize the foundation believed to be contributing to wall buckling.

During this grant cycle, 17 projects representing 14 counties across the state have been selected by an independent panel of preservation professionals.

A total of $62,953 was awarded.

“Our Technical Assistance Grants (TAG) can have long-lasting impacts on cultural organizations across the state. • Preventive care is designed to help you stay healthy. It’s covered by most health plans with $0 out-of-pocket when you see a network provider.

• Diagnostic care could have additional costs, depending on your plan coverage. Check your plan documents for details.
