Dear Editor, Following up on the very first letter that was written about the Guyana Government releasing incremental subventions for the reliable continuation of the publication of the Guyana Chronicle in New York, we, the overseas consumers of the paper, should take heart from two announcements that were made in Georgetown last week. The first announcement came from President David Granger, who in responses to questions from Media personnel, declared "I recognize the need for the public to re-

ceive information, particularly through the State media, which would help them to make decisions . . . So there is a role for public information and the Chronicle is a public information medium." Later the same week, Chairperson of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited, Ms. Geeta Chandan-Edmond stated that the Agency had returned to profitability. The Chairperson told the Company's Annual General Meeting that at the end of December, 2016, GNNL recorded its best performance in the last decade, raking in a

profit before tax of $63.7 million. From those two statements, I believe that the Administration of this newspaper should be very proactive in detailing its request to its parent. One thought that I have Mr. Editor, is that if the New York Edition of the Guyana Chronicle is to provide information and help Guyana Government promotion to readers in this State, and to the wider Diaspora including Canada, the New York Administration will have to rapidly increase its New York/U.S./Canada production and

circulation. In addition, I am wondering that if one of the major roles of the New York Edition of the Guyana Chronicle is for example to keep Guyanese and other nationalities upto-date on investment opportunities in Guyana — Does it mean that the Administration of the New York Edition of the Guyana Chronicle will by itself or in collaboration with other agencies, say Consulates have to mount information fora like seminars or symposia. Wilfred Davilar Reader of the Chronicle.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived an extraordinary life. At age 33, he was pressing the case of civil rights with US President John Kennedy. At age 34, he galvanized the nation with his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. At age 35, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. At the young age of 39, he was assassinated, but he left a legacy of hope and inspiration that continues today to confront the ugly vestiges of racial discrimination especially during these turbulent and alarming times. We pay special homage and grateful recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s preeminent leadership of the modern American Civil Rights Movement, from 1955 to 1968, during which time African Americans achieved more genuine progress toward racial equality in

Luther King Jr. believed that peaceful refusal to obey unjust law was the best way to bring about social change. His adherence of Ghandhian non-violence teachings for peacful protests to achieve freedom and social justice have inspired many to protest in peaceful ways against oppression, colonial rule, subjugation and violent discrimination in many countries. The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. provide inspiration, challenges and reminders of the possibilities for good, as well as the role and responsibility of everyone to be supportive of advancing social justice in even small ways. One of his famous quotes: “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle;

the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals”. The world owes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a debt of gratitude.
