The Practice of Everyday Life - Spatial Stories by Michael de Certeau Summary by Gustav Kjær Vad Nielsen Certeau sets out to clarify a distinction between space(espace) and place(lieu). As he continous he defines a place as the order with which elements are distributed their location in relation to each other and. A space is defined as existing by the consideration of ‘vectors of direction, velocities and time variables’(p117). As he in short describes it: “(…) space is a practiced place”(p117). In the story the perspective of the two doesn’t have to be consistent as space can become place and place can become space as in the act of the transformation of a place, objects take part in the space.
