ANNUAL REPORT 2024

Greetings from the Hilltop!
This was an excellent year for the Department of Health Management and Policy and our academic programs We continue to grow while remaining focused on the formation of our undergraduate and master’s students and the faculty’s production and dissemination of knowledge.
In this annual report, we highlight achievements made by our students, alumni, staff, and faculty We also highlight achievements in education, scholarship, and service Our faculty and students are working at the cutting edge of healthcare and public health with the constant mission to make the delivery of health in the United States and around the world more accessible, more just, and more efficient. A few things in particular that I would like to highlight:
Department Chair
This summer, graduated 30 undergraduates, who have now joined our alumni community. Their commitment and diligence inspire us.
We also graduated 11 Master of Science in Health Systems Administration Students. They continued the relaunch of our revamped program, and we are thrilled to see what they accomplish!
We had 32 new students join our department They include 16 first-year undergraduates, 7 undergrads who transferred into the Healthcare Management and Policy major, and 9 new MHSA students
We added one new faculty member, Prof Caroline Efird Prof Efird is doing exciting work to better understand how health inequities come into being and how they can be addressed
Two longstanding professors, Prof Robert Friedland and Prof Ryung Suh, retired We will miss both of them dearly and are deeply grateful for all the contributions they made over the last couple of decades.
AJ Smith joined us as the new Associate Director of the MHSA program. He has hit the ground running in his first couple of weeks and we are thrilled to have him!
The MHSA program completed a successful CAHME self-study and site visit, an important step on our way to reaccreditation This was an immense amount of work by many people, but we especially owe Prof Gultekin Gollu, Tyler Hill-Whatley, and Alishia Echols a debt of gratitude
Finally, our students, faculty, staff, preceptors, and other friends of the department made important contributions to knowledge and the fields of health policy and health management throughout 2024 Read on for the specifics
The department and I are grateful for all of your support over the past year. We look forward to doing even more in 2025!

The School of Health held their commencement on May 18, 2024 Students, family, friends, and loved ones gathered at Gaston Hall to celebrate.
Addressing the Class of 2024, King stated “in the spirit of cura personalis, I am confident that you’ll be the ones who will help us make a long overdue societal shift from one that is centered on ill-being to one that prioritizes well-being,”
The School of Health was honored to welcome Toyin Ajayi, MD as the commencement speaker for the graduating class of 2024 Ajayi gave the advice to “spend this next chapter figuring out how to be trustworthy, and hopefully, one day, trusted. If you do this right, you will deliver on a promise of real impact on the most existential and important challenges of our lifetime
The class of 2024 included 93 undergraduate students and 11 graduate students. Read more about the 2024 commencement here
