Chronicles of a CBA-er BY KRIZIA MAE VERGARA
There is less than a month to go before graduation and I am already overwhelmed by my emotions. On one side, I am ecstatic that the life-draining exams and requirements would cease but on another note, I find it difficult to cope to the fact that I would be leaving the College of Business. I remember vividly the first time I set foot in this college. It was back in 2008, I was running late for the freshman orientation to be held on the P&G room. The usher pointed me towards the right side of the room. I was wearing pink and the rest of the student council and the college administrators were wearing white. All eyes were on me as I took my seat. I was literally so flushed that my face turned the same hue as my shirt. That was the first of the long list of memorable experiences that I experienced in CBA. Hence, I am writing my last article in this publication to share a few things that I will definitely miss when I leave this college- my great abode for five years.
I would definitely miss my friends and batch. We shared so much laughter and tears together. Together, we withstood the strain of 10-hour exams. We worked our thinking caps during overnight study sessions for the said exams. We donned colorcoordinated business attire, created animated powerpoint presentations and wrote papers till our fingers numbed for our numerous case studies. We became regulars to the CDR, Kenny’s, and Mcdonald’s for our various org meetings. And finally, we had to run a few laps around the Academic oval to burn the calories that pile up due to the constant food trips and ‘lerler’ escapades.
I would miss all the queer facilities of CBA as they were witnesses to all my memorable experiences. I would miss the Spirit of Business or the ‘ray gun’ as other colleges may name it as it is the first thing that greets me as I make my way to class. I would miss the BA steps where we always lounge at after class. I would definitely miss the entire third floor which almost always has a different aura due to the various exhibits that the CBA-based orgs exhibit. And finally, we have the fourth floor housing all the orgs which students roam with ease on a daily basis.
I would miss all of my professors who have imparted so much knowledge to me in my fruitful stay in CBA. I take pride in learning from these individuals because clearly, they are the best in their field. There is something with CBA professors that make them a cut above the rest. Maybe it is the fact that they are truly in love with their jobs or maybe they have so much compassion for their students that they will go out of their way to make them learn. They are almost always ready for consultations, they care for the students even after they have left the college as evidenced by the board ops and they see to it to keep in touch with their former students
I would miss all of the CBA staff who has always been so warm to the CBA students. I would miss dropping by the coop to buy snacks or have something photocopied by the fearsome ‘coop ladies’. I definitely will not forget about our guard who amazingly seems to know everyone in the college. Then there’s the maintenance personnel who is always so responsive to our air conditioner and projector problems.
I would miss the hectic schedule that comes with being a student of this college. We have exams on the most unthinkable dates such as Sundays and holidays. We still have exams when the rest of the University is on vacation mode and all our multicolored planners are tangible evidences of the kind of life we led.
Truly I cannot imagine what my life would have been if I was not fortunate enough to be part of the CBA family. Rest assured that all the memories that I have gained from being a CBAer will be well cherished in my heart. The values and learning that I have gained will always be with me as I make life decisions. Thank you CBA and till we meet again!
