AUG UST 20 14

ABOUT THE COVER A New Chapter August used to be the extremely stressful midpoint of a semester in the life of a UP student. This year, the beginning of an academic year in UP was marked anew by August. A new chapter--whether it be for an entirely new book series for the freshmen or an anticipated sequel for the upperclassmen-has unfolded and the story is yet to reach the climax. Everyone certainly has a story to tell and with August opening this semester, certain changes will make the story More Than Just a Story. PHOTO FROM GOOGLE IMAGES

EDITOR’S NOTE A month after our fast-paced plunge into the realm of academics and regular classes, we present you Guilder Institute’s August release. We hope you’ll find an ever increasing amount of appreciation as we continuously deliver and serve you our various endeavors to keep the college aware of the latest happenings around us. With most of us barely rolling our sleeves up from the break, it has been a challenge to ensure that Guilder Institute would come up with an August magazine that rightfully surpasses the standards we have set in our previous publications. Again, I would like to thank all the writers, layout artists, photographers, and other contributors for the sustained commitment to produce this magazine. I would especially like to mention the Business & Culture team of Guilder, for being among the most productive, and coming up with timely, relevant and well-written articles that readers are about to enjoy in the next few pages. Most of all, I would like to thank the CBA community for the renewed support and enthusiasm to fill up the ranks of the organization with new writers, artists, administrators, and entrepreneurs – the list is nothing short of fantastic. With additional manpower and resources at our reach, we are now another step closer to fulfilling our mission to you, our valued readers. The first month of the academic year has ended; but merely a tenth of it is over. In the succeeding months, we will open the doors to fresher ideas and newer ways of depicting to the CBA community how delightful it is to take a break, calm down, and see the beautiful colors and various shades of our college life. Indeed, we have already started one initiative – the Humans of CBA – which in its online debut has already proven that our readers deserve something more interesting, something which is More than Just a Story. In the coming periods, Guilder will likewise shift its productive capacity and begin its online publications at the weekly level. News brigs, infographics, bimonthly features, and articles galore are now awaiting release with our newly established website at the WordPress. Surely, there has been nothing more exciting in our entire history than to be at this day, waiting for the new developments to happen! As we read through this magazine, let us all remember that all of it has been made wholly by the efforts of an organization run by CBA students. It could be you. It could be me. Or, better yet, someday, it could be you as well. Let us all continue in pursuing the mission of getting everyone aware, informed, and in appreciation with all the happenings around the society. Very truly yours,

CARLO PIO RODA Editor-in-Chief
