The report’s rankings, encompassing data from nearly 24,000 public high schools, evaluate schools based on their performance on state assessments and their effectiveness in preparing students for college.

Distinguished accolades were bestowed upon numerous GUHSD students over the past year. Those honored with prestigious awards, such as the National Merit Scholarship, Dorrance Scholarship, Questbridge Scholarship and M.I.T. Scholarship, are recognized below.

2023 QUESTBRIDGE SCHOLARS

GUHSD is delighted to extend its congratulations to Jada Finesilver, Diana Mata, and Manouny Ouatara, Glendale High School 2023 graduates, on their exceptional achievement of being awarded full scholarships to distinguished universities.

Jada Finesilver has earned a full-ride scholarship to Stanford University, Diana Mata to the University of Southern California and Manouny Ouatara to Notre Dame University, all through the notable Questbridge Program.

The Questbridge Match Scholarship not only covers the entire four-year tuition, totaling more than $200,000, but also includes a comprehensive financial aid package encompassing accommodation, meals, educational materials, and travel expenses.

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR

2023 DORRANCE SCHOLARS

GUHSD takes immense pride in honoring its four exceptional 2023 Dorrance Scholars: Jacelyn Martinez and Joanna Pina from Glendale High School, Adriana Sparks from Greenway High School, and Natalya Merida from Moon Valley High School.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced over 16,000 semifinalists for the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, with more than 15,000 progressing to the finalist stage. Out of these outstanding finalists, 2,500 individuals were selected as Merit Scholar recipients. These scholarship winners represent the top finalists in each state, chosen based on their exceptional accomplishments and abilities.

This valuable scholarship serves as a testament to their extraordinary accomplishments, as it is both fiercely competitive and highly prestigious. Beyond the generous $12,000 annual grant applicable to any state university in Arizona, it also offers a comprehensive package of benefits. These encompass a transformative summer bridge experience, personalized guidance from a dedicated advisor and mentor, opportunities for cultural enrichment, active engagement in community outreach programs, and an invaluable international travel experience.

2023 M.I.T. SCHOLAR

Congratulations to Alberto Mora Trinidad from Independence High School, who earned a full scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) totaling over $280,000. This merit-based award covers tuition, room and board, and travel assistance for his enrollment at M.I.T.

According to the Auditor General’s Classroom Spending report of 2022, GUHSD demonstrates a higher commitment to investing its funding in classrooms compared to both state and peer district group averages. Furthermore, the report reveals that GUHSD allocates a lower proportion of its funds towards administration in comparison to the average figures of other state and peer districts.

Over the past 33 years, Glendale Union High School District has exemplified responsible fiscal management of taxpayers’ funds, receiving esteemed accolades from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) and the Government Finance Officers Assocation of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
