STUDYING FOR A TEST

Students often have a hard time when they have to study for a test. Some have test anxiety and get very stressed about the exam. Test anxiety is a very serious thing and it can cause depression. The cause of it could be many things. For example if the student is putting too much pressure on himself and is afraid of failure. But there are many ways to handle test anxitety aswell. * First of all prepare yourself. Being prepared for an exam and knowing you have done everything you could is a very good feeling. Develop good study habits. Don´t start studying the night before the exam. Start preparing yourself a few days before and maybe just for an hour at a time. * Take brakes. You must take brakes when you are studying. Every 40-60 minutes stand up, stretch and walk

around the house for a few minutes. Or just play your favorite song and dance a little to shake off the stress. * Stay healthy. Get enough sleep, exercise (you can go out for a walk in the fresh air), eat healthy and take care of yourself. Taking an exam when you´re tired makes it a hundred times harder. * Talk to somebody. It can be a professional counselor, a family member or a friend. It helps to talk about it and sometimes the people around you can help you more than you think. * Focus on yourself. When you take the exam you have to block everything around you. Take deep breaths. Don´t let anyone or anything interrupt you in any way. You can maybe use earplugs if the teacher allows that.

* Snacks. When you study it can help to have some snacks beside you. Even though you only want ice cream, chocolate or any other sweets when you are studying it is so much better to have something healthy. The sugar will make you have a lack of energy and feel tired. Have some fruits, berries or nuts instead. And then when you are finished you can maybe reward yourself with some sweets. * Stay positive! Your test grade does not define you. If you do bad this time you will just do better the next time. Just do your best and don´t expect too much of yourself. Everything will be ok!
