THE BIRTH OF A MOVEMENT Guard Your Heart Ministries or GYHM was founded on December 2017 by Jovenise Benjamin. This ministry was first launched as a Facebook page and since then has expanded. GYHM has members all around the world. Besides our main page we have two private Facebook groups: Guard Your Heart Ministries (ladies) and Guard Your Heart Ministries (gentleman). On the main page as well as the private pages we post daily devotionals, advice, quotes and scriptures to inspire others.

As of 2020, GYHM has a website, gyhm.org and has also launched a clothing store on teespring.com.

In 2020, the Lord begun to speak to our founder about launching a magazine, which has been a childhood dream of hers. The purpose of Guard Your Heart Magazine is to empower and inspire others to dream big and pursue their God given dreams. We hope that each story shared will inspire you to overcome the hurdles in your life and pursue what God has laid out in your heart to do.

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF EDWARD H KUSMIERCZYK

EDWARD H. KUSMIERCZYK October 21, 1940 - July 26, 2021

Edward H. Kusmierczyk, better known as Ed was born on October 21,1940 in Lackawanna, New York to the late John and Mary (Granica). He was a minister of the Gospel and devoted His time to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others. He always said, “Know Jesus, Know Peace. No Jesus, No peace.”

His heart desire was for others to come into awareness of who Jesus Christ is. Ed was married to Georgia Rouse. He is survived by his son, Keith and Sandra and his daughter Dawn. His Grandchildren are Joshua, Virginia, Kaleb, Alexis and Levi.

She is the founder of two online ministries, Faith Forward Ministries and Glory Anna Girls women’s ministry. She is a mother and has a son called Levi. She has a heart for prayer, prophecy, women and children. She is the author of a children's book called "Sheep Can’t Sleep."

When did you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior and what event led up to it?

I a I was raised Catholic and knew God through religious instruction and the example my parents set as far as believing in Him. As a child, my family said grace over our meals. We went to church on Sundays.

We did not usually pray together, unless someone was sick, but I believed in God and prayed to Him before I went to bed at night. However, my relationship with the Lord changed when I was 12 years old and went to a Christian summer camp called Circle C Ranch. That was the first time I heard of a personal relationship with Christ. They had an alter call and I honestly had no idea what exactly was going on. It was totally foreign to me. I watched my brother go up. I waited until we were outside to talk to him because I wasn’t sure what it meant? I thought I knew God already.

Outside my brother said to me,’ why didn’t you go forward?’ I said I wasn’t quite sure what they were talking about? “Jesus lives in you?” -That really didn’t make sense to me. My brother said, “Dawn this is for eternity. You got to go back in there and receive Him.” So, I went back in the building as the prayer meeting was finishing up and asked, “What do I need to do to have the Lord with me for eternity?” I knelt and prayed and invited Jesus into my heart to be my Lord and savior. The good thing about camp was they sent lessons in the mail to grow our faith including Bible Stories. My parents were reading the lessons too.Since that Summer Camp experience, I’ve been talking to friends, family and whoever will listen to about salvation through Jesus!

Who is Dawn? Tell us about yourself.

I’m a single mom. I have 12-year-old special needs son, Levi. He is my heart! I love dogs. I currently am a mom to a boxer/lab. I enjoy writing songs, children’s stories and poems. I am a published children’s author of Sheep Can’t Sleep. It’s about life, friendship and being open to possibilities. I am the founder member and leader of Faith Forward Ministries and Glory Anna Girls women’s ministry online. Both groups focus on increasing faith, breaking down the Word of God so that it is applicable in everyday life and being an intercessor.

How was it like growing up as a pastor’s kid (PK)?

II wasn’t a pastor’s kid until much later in life.

Growing up my father was a New York State Trooper. It is kind of a similar profession as being in ministry; both professions are black and white. I shared with you that he was reading Bible lessons from the Christian camp that we got in the mail. He told me that he got saved through Cops for Christ.

He later started attending Bible Study, converted from Catholic to Anglican, and started pursing the things of the Lord. First, he joined the choir, next he became a reader, and later a deacon. He visited the sick and the shut ins taking them communion. At 70 he was ordained an Anglican Priest. Besides dedicating his life to ministry, he was also the President of the Buffalo City Mission for 6 years. He later was the Director of Faith Forward Ministries.

My father truly lived out the scripture, “Though your beginning was insignificant, Yet your end will increase greatly.” Job 8:7.

My dad’s faith in Christ was the center of his life.

What would you say to a pastor’s kid who feels lost and wants to run away from the faith?

I would say be kind to yourself. God loves you just the way you are! He is not a God that doesn’t understand you. He is a loving father. The Bible says, ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11.

The Lord is not expecting you to perfect. There is a learning curve when we are growing up. We can’t get caught up in what other people think of us.

There was only one perfect person that was fully God and fully human and He was even discouraged and asked his Father that if it be your will may this cup pass from me. So, if you are feeling discouraged and feel that there is too much pressure upon your shoulders and you are not living up to expectations or even that you don’t want to, Jesus has been there! But here’s the key, He promised, I will never leave you nor forsake you. All He wants from you is to keep going in your faith. Keep running the race and don’t give up! He is with you every step of the way and He is faithful!

In what ways can parents raise their children in the ways of the Lord?

One way is to talk about God; not as some far-off being, but in a personal way. Teach children that God is with them and for them. We don’t serve an impersonal god that is far off. He is an ever-present help in our time of need. Tell your kids to ask God for what they need. I had a friend that used to ask the Lord for a good parking space. God wants to bless you with little things including good parking space; that is His favor upon your life. Invite the Lord into your conversations with your children. Such as do you think Jesus would like this ____? And fill in the blank, would He like this song? My son really enjoys Veggietales songs. Simple songs teach children that God is bigger than fear or whatever it is they are facing. Singing songs with kids also teaches precepts of faith.

Listen to your kids and treat them with respect. Loving your children requires participation with them in life.

The love of Christ in us teaches us to rejoice with our friends. Weep with those that are sad. Teaching kids to express their emotions is a God trait. Parents need to show their children how special they are to them and how they are even more special to God. He loved them so much that their names are engraved on the palms of His hands. Isaiah 49:16.

Teach your children to hear the voice of the Lord. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”

Psalm 32:8. Let your child know that the Lord speaks to us in a still small voice. He is always guiding you.

He wants us to choose Him. Teach children to focus on God’s blessings. In my house I have been teaching my son to pull down good things from heaven. This is based on Philippians 4:8.

“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”

The world will tell kids who they are and even their identity. God has a true word about what He says they are. The Bible says in Psalm 139:14, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”

In order to raise a child that is rooted and grounded in Christ they must know what the Lord says about them.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.

Teach a child that they don’t need to brag about themselves and their gifts and talents. God brings promotion and opens doors to them. Lastly, it not important that a child is “popular” in school or among their peers, rather it is more important that He knows their name. The creator of the universe loves them so much and He knows their name.

Tell us about your father?

My father was just a lot of fun to be around. His dad was an immigrant from Poland and his mother was born in the United States. Both of his parents spoke Polish and English. He knew a few words and phrases that he taught my brother and me. He learned from his parents to work hard, to be kind to others and to not live beyond your means. His mother was a Seer. When I was a kid, she shared with me that she saw angels. My dad had that gift as well, although he didn’t really call it that; to him it was an inner knowing of hearing the Lord through pictures in his spirit. My father treated people with respect no matter who they were. He loved serving others and helping his family. He lived by this motto, “God first, family second, and all the rest doesn’t matter.” and instilled that into my brother and me. He was a true leader, and he lived his life pointing others to Christ.

He told us often, it doesn’t matter who knows you, but that He knows you and that He knows your name. He liked to sing and was a good writer. He had a simple child-like faith too and saw people get healed through simple prayers tied with faith. He loved reading the Bible. We talked often about scripture and dividing the word rightly. He had a heart for kids. He used to sign up to be a chaperone for Kingdom Bound, a weekend of Christian praise, worship and prayer at Darien Lake theme park in NY so his grandkids would go with him too. My father was always pointing people to Christ. He had a great sense of humor and had compassion for others. He was often on the phone late at night trying to help someone at the church or city mission that was in a jam. He had a burden for people. He visited the sick and shut ins every week and often wished there was more time in the day to visit them.

He was married to my mom for 53 ½ years. “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22. He used to say the Lord worked that out for him. They met on a blind date.

In the late 80s my parents went to a Billy Graham Crusade. Dad was sitting in the choir and my mother was sitting elsewhere in the stands. At the end of the service during an altar call, Just As I Am was playing and they both went down to the stadium field and met each other and rededicated their lives to Christ. They never talked to each other about going forward to make a public profession of faith.

That was a very cool moment for them both! They went to the Dominican Republican on a mission trip and travelled to the Holy Land. He still was talking about that trip years later. Many people that knew him said he was a kind man that ran his race well!

What is the legacy your father has left you want to continue?

My Father was about his father’s business. One way I want to continue his legacy is through Faith Forward and Glory Anna Girls by helping believers grow in their faith and run the race set before them.

I also want to reach those that don’t know Christ by telling them how much He already loves them and that He died for them. There is so much peace following Jesus. My father used to say, Know Jesus, Know Peace.

No Jesus, No peace. True word! I talk to people like my dad did by speaking the truth in love by not watering down the Gospel to tickle the ears. Jesus Christ is only way to salvation. “Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6.

The world tells us that there are many roads to God. If it feels good, do it. That ‘theology’ is not truth and partial truth mixed with a lie is still a lie. There is responsibility ministering to others and praying for them. You don’t want to be the one that told a person, oh god doesn’t mind if you continue in that sin and not call it a sin. I feel there is a heavy weight to heavenly things. Sin is sin. We can’t rationalize God and put our own spin on His character. He is holy. He is righteous and He is just. His blood was shed for the forgiveness of sins that we would become blameless, sinless, righteous before him because of His righteousness.

I pray that I please the Lord. That the words I speak give glory to his name. That people would be excited about the Lord and His unconditional love for them, and His blood shed at the cross should always keep us pressing on to run the race before us. I pray that my dad would be proud of my life.

When did you know you were called into ministry?

I always loved the Lord even at a young age. When I was about 7 years old, I had a dream of people in flames and I was reaching down to pull them out of the fire, but I wasn’t by myself. Looking back, I believe that dream meant the Lord was calling me to evangelism.

Growing up in church, I was a Sunday School teacher assistant. I loved watching young kids grasp the love of God for them! It was exciting to see them accept Christ with pure, child-like faith as they were indeed children and, they just believed!

That was so beautiful to see things through their eyes.

I always felt a tug from the Lord throughout my life, but I’m not going to lie, there was a time after college that I tried to do my own thing and quench the Holy Spirit’s pull on me because I wanted my way. That did not go well for me at all.

After I went through that phase, I totally repented and said, okay Lord, I’m all in with You and I’m all yours! I went to school for evangelism at The Way of the Master School of Biblical Evangelism, was trained in the prophetic and healing and deliverance, and more recently earned a ministry certification from International School of the Word.

I wanted to learn how to reach the unchurch for Christ and be more effective for the kingdom.

In what ways do you want to impact others through your ministry?

My prayer is that people would be so excited about Jesus. That they will walk in greater levels of freedom, healing, and intercession. That will learn how to share the gospel with their friends and loved ones. That they will grow in their gifts. That they don’t leave Jesus at the door of their church on Sunday, but they have a deeper relationship with Him. That they will experience the kingdom of God – righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

What role has prayer played in your life?

Prayer is huge! Prayer changes everything.

Honestly, I spend hours a day in prayer for myself, for others, for family. When I pray with my mom, she sometimes tells me to keep it short. I just flow with the Holy Spirit and can pray for hours, and it seem like 15 minutes.

I love to pray scripture back to the Lord. I always share with people that His word is His covenant to us, and He is faithful to his word. I think it’s important to pray in the Spirit. There are times that I’ve felt the heaviness or urgency in a situation and just didn’t know what to pray, so I will pray in the Spirit. That is a perfect prayer without my will or desire in the way.

Prayer refreshes me. It’s good to keep a prayer journal.

It is so awesome to watch how the Lord answers prayers. Prayer gives me confidence that He is with me.

Is there anything else you want to mention?

I absolutely love the Lord. I pray that my son will love him as much or more than I do. I am thankful for everything He allows in my life.

People often think coming to Christ is a one and done thing and what I mean by that is that I said a prayer when I was 12 and now, I have fire insurance from hell. I believe the Lord wants greater intimacy with us. I believe the Christian walk is a day-to-day process of praying and listening to what the Lord has to say. Being connected to strong believers that pray together is essential and having one or two close friends to pray with you on the issues of life. I believe that Jesus is 100% faithful to His word. I pray that even when I don’t understand things, He does. He loves me and wants the best for me and that is more than enough for me.

Bless me with business ideas and strategies and help me to birth them. Help me Lord to organize my time in an effective manner. PRAYER TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD God, I want to hear your voice. I desire for you to speak to me every day. I want to be guided by your voice. Help me to have a hunger for your word written in the Bible. May the words of the Bible come alive in my life and I hear you through your written word. As your written word penetrates through me may my spirit be aligned with yours and your word cause my spiritual and natural eyes to be attentive to your voice. In the mighty name of Jesus, I declare this is my year to shine. This is the year for me to access the blessings of God.
