THE BIRTH OF A MOVEMENT Guard Your Heart Ministries or GYHM was founded on December 2017 by Jovenise Benjamin. This ministry was first launched as a Facebook page and since then has expanded. GYHM has members all around the world. Besides our main page we have two private Facebook groups: Guard Your Heart Ministries (ladies) and Guard Your Heart Ministries (gentleman). On the main page as well as the private pages we post daily devotionals, advice, quotes and scriptures to inspire others.

As of 2020, GYHM has a website, gyhm.org and has also launched a clothing store on teespring.com.

In 2020, the Lord begun to speak to our founder about launching a magazine, which has been a childhood dream of hers. The purpose of Guard Your Heart Magazine is to empower and inspire others to dream big and pursue their God given dreams. We hope that each story shared will inspire you to overcome the hurdles in your life and pursue what God has laid out in your heart to do.

Tell us about yourself?

My name is Tracey Edouard. I am 30 years old, a New York native, and I have two cats whom I love dearly named Jupiter and Saturn.

What motivated you to learn music?

There wasn’t necessarily a specific musician or song that motivated me to learn music. I was fortunate enough to be in a school district that had the opportunity to offer students musical education. In 4th grade, all students were required to join band, orchestra, or chorus; choosing nothing was not an option. Personally for me, I was torn between picking the flute or the violin. When I weighed out the pros and cons of each instrument, I realized that I wasn’t graced with the lung capacity to blow into an instrument several times per week, so I defaulted to the violin. All throughout grade school, I really enjoyed playing and never had to be told my parents to practice. I would often find recordings of specific orchestral pieces we were learning in class at home and play along with those recordings until memorized the music and I sounded as close to perfect as I could be.

In my high school years, I unfortunately was the recipient of bullying, but God worked that out for my good in that it led me to spend more time in the orchestra room than the lunchroom, ultimately giving me more time to practice the violin. It was during those years where my love and appreciation for my instrument grew exponentially. I was privileged to have the opportunity to continue playing music all throughout my collegiate career, which then evolved into me playing worship for my church, and other churches on a weekly basis.

As we start a new year many people are believing God for a new thing what scriptures would you advice for those individuals to use to pray?

“I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.” - Isaiah 22:22 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” - Isaiah 43:19 “Your Road led though the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters – a pathway no one knew was there!” - Psalm 77:19 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” - Jeremiah 29:11 “And though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great.” - Job 8:7 “Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.” - Proverbs 23:18

Why is it important to wait on God?

It’s so important to wait on God because when we do, we save ourselves a world of headache, heartache, unnecessary frustration or delay that may come when we try to take matters into our own hands. When we don’t wait on God, we actually create self-made ‘traffic jams’ that slow us down from where we want to be or what we want to already be doing. God in His sovereignty can still work around our shortcomings and still bring us to the destination He had in mind for us all along, but when we take our hands off the steering wheel, we give God the freedom to bring things about in a way that only He can take credit for and receive the glory that He rightfully deserves. God’s timing can be sudden, quick and will snap us into position far better, faster and more efficiently than we can ever try to do in our own strength.

In what ways can those waiting on God respectfully distance themselves from doubters and naysayers?

Those looking to distance themselves from doubters and naysayers have to be extremely vigilant and almost militant about protecting their peace. If the doubters and naysayers have access to you online, block their social media profiles. If the doubters

18 and naysayers have access to you geographically, you are not required to engage with them. Pray to the Lord and ask Him to sever any spiritual ties or access these doubters and naysayers may have to you. If the doubters and naysayers are related to you by blood, learn how to be okay by yourself. Family can be extremely complicated, but not even the most stubborn heart of a family member is above the power of prayer. You can pray and ask God to keep your interactions brief and. Proverbs 21:1 reads, “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.” Pray and ask the Lord to turn these individuals hearts from doubters to believers and encouragers.

There are many people who have been waiting on God for visitations because they want more of His presence and spiritual gifts, what can these individuals do to activate their spiritual gifts?

Prayer and fasting. When we deny our flesh the temporary pleasures of food and fullness, we cause our spirits to be opened and edified to what God wants to do with our spiritual giftings. In the midst of your fasting, pray for the Lord to open your spiritual eyes and spiritual ears to see and hear how the Holy Spirit wants to use your spiritual giftings.

Don’t put God in a box as to how He may want to use your spiritual giftings. Be open! Sometimes the greatest miracles come about in most unforeseen and unconventional ways. When we fully give our lives to Christ, we forfeit the right to dictate how we expect certain gifts should be activated. Lastly, believe that you have access to every spiritual gift you desire without doubting (James 1:6) and don’t be afraid to step out in your spiritual gifts in faith.

Faith without works is dead. You can believe with all of your heart, soul and might that you have a spiritual gift, but if you never take that first step to exercise it, your spiritual gifts will remain dormant.

In what ways can those with spiritual gifts protect the gift and mature in it?

more you work out your muscles, week-in and week-out, the stronger you become. That same principle applies to spiritual gifts. The more we ask the Lord to increase the gifts He has given us and the more we work them out (like spiritual exercise) the more mature we become. We can also pray and plead the blood of Jesus over our spiritual gifts that will help protect us from any witchcraft spirits that may try to come against us in the spiritual realm.

I would also say stewardship is a key factor to maturing in spiritual gifts as well. One of the things that always used to frustrate me as a young high school student in math class was when asked to solve certain equations, the teachers’ instructions would always say, “show your work.” It bewildered me at times, because quite often, I would be able to solve the problem in my head before my pencil touched the paper. However, on the occasions I got an equation or two wrong, I would have no evidence to show for myself as to how I came to that answer. More times than not, that would leave the teacher limited in her ability to correct and guide me. What I lacked in this circumstance was the ability to steward my progress.

Steward is defined as: A person whose responsibility it is to take care of something. David is a good example of this. In 1 Samuel 17:34-36, right before he killed Goliath David says, “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!” While this gift that David was stewarding wasn’t spiritual, this is a prime example of how he stewarded his ability to fight before it was time to really put that gift to the test. David was anointed to be the future King of Israel in one moment and then sent back into the field to do what he had been taught to do for years before a crown was ever placed on his head. David’s destiny did not deter him from his current duties. When we make an effort to steward our spiritual giftings will only help us down the road as we grow in God.

God is a God of abundance and never lacks. I think of the scripture in Matthew 7:9-11, “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Akin to working out in the gym, the

What are three things Christians can do to mature this year?

1. Declutter, Declutter, Declutter There are so many distractions that are vowing to steal your attention. People are applauded for achieving 80-hour work weeks, but what does actually yield? Nothing that will withstand the purifying fire we endure before we enter Heaven (1 Corinthians 3:10-15). We have to be ever more vigilant in protecting our quiet time with Jesus. Be dogmatic if you have to. Give yourself time to rest.

One of the most powerful things that I’ve ever heard is that rest is worship! God rested on the 7th day of creation not because He was in need of rest (He never tires nor slumbers [Psalm 121:4]), but He was modeling for us need for his creation to slow down and just be. We’re human beings, not human doings. Luke 5:16 says that Jesus “often withdrew to deserted places and prayed.” Other scriptures highlight sometimes he would be praying all night.

If Jesus only did what He saw the Father doing, and this is what He modeled for us, how much more should we be doing the same?

2. Give Yourself Permission to Say “No,” as the Holy Spirit Leads. This might be hard pill to swallow for any type-A personalities that are reading this, or to the one who likes to be depended upon, who never likes to let others down, or to the one who loves to give before they ever receive. Your heart is in the right place, and I completely understand your desire is to say “yes” to everyone that asks something from or of you, but not every good opportunity is a God opportunity. Your time, energy, and resources are valuable. The enemy would love nothing more than to turn you into a Martha, running to and fro, like a hamster on a wheel, going nowhere fast and ultimately drain you until you’re depleted and rendered useless. You cannot pour from an empty watering can. Don’t allow yourself to get to that point. Give yourself permission to say “no.”

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Learn to identify the Jacob’s, Mordecai’s, Saul’s and Judas’ in your life. It's not my intention to be the be the bearer of sobering news, but not everybody in your friend circle wants to see you reach your promise land. The older I get, the smaller my friend circle becomes, and that’s okay! Take time to reevaluate and assess who should be in your ‘innercourt’ vs. your ‘outer-court.’ We can even see different depths of intimacy Jesus shared with His own disciples, like James, John and Peter versus the other nine. Some friends are only meant to be in your life for a season. Other friends are called to run the race of faith with you to the very end. Take stock of the individuals who have been there for you through your valley seasons vs. the individuals who only seem to come around when you reach your mountain-top moments. Allow their actions to speak louder than their words. Friendship is a twoway street. If a friend is only looking for what they can take from you, can you really call that true friendship? You can still love individuals from a distance. At the end of the day, quality will always trump quantity.

3. Learn to Live Outside of Your Comfort Zone This is something I’m learning to do as well. As long as we continue to live in our comfort zones, we won’t ever mature in the Lord. I’m not saying to seek out adversity; trust me it will come by default to those who are serious about pursuing the deeper things of God, but in all seriousness, how else do we expect our roots to grow deep if there aren’t any ‘storms’ to test how much we’ve grown? How are we to know the Lord as provider if we don’t need providing for? Or comforter if we don’t need comforting? Or protector if we don’t need protecting? Baby bottle, gummy bear Christianity (as brother Marcus Rogers would say) is over. We are not going back to church as usual, so we should all do ourselves a favor and learn to live outside our comfort zones so we can advance into the greater works God has prepared for us.

CRYPTOCURRENCIES ON THE RISE

The interest in cryptocurrency has significantly increased in the last couple years and many are wondering how they can invest their money in cryptocurrencies, while others wonder if it’s even worth it. One of the top cryptocurrencies that many people know about is Bitcoin, but it’s not the only one. There are 16,000 cryptocurrencies out there and dozens of them have a promising future and you can check them out by visiting coinmarketcap.com. When Bitcoin was first launched on October 31st, 2008, it was practically worthless. But, by the end of 2011, the coin was worth five dollars per share. As of December 20221, the coin is about $49,000 per share.

What exactly is cryptocurrency?

A cryptocurrency or crypto is a form of digital payment (similar to cash) that can be exchange for goods and services without the need of a central monetary authority such as a government or bank. Cryptocurrency uses technology called blockchain to eliminate the need for a bank by processing and recording payments and some believe cryptocurrencies are more secure than traditional payment systems. But, the irony of things is that without the investment of cash, which are monitored by centralize systems (Governments and Banks) cryptocurrencies would not be able to function. So do not get carried away by the hype that Cryptocurrencies will one day dominate over cash. Cryptocurrencies are also very volatile meaning their prices can drastically increase and decrease. In March 2021, Bitcoin was around $61,000 and as of December 2021 is around $49,000. What happened and is there some way to have know that it would change so drastically? While it’s difficult to predict the exact price that Bitcoin or any crypto will be at any given time, it is possible to make educated guests through technical analysis.

If you decide to invest in cryptocurrencies proceed at your own caution. Educate yourself as much as possible and get familiar with the technical analysis behind cryptocurrencies and the stock market in general. Having the knowledge of technical analysis associated with cryptocurrencies and stocks will enable you to make the best decisions on when to invest your money, where to invest (broker), how and when to take your money out. Keep in mind that not all cryptocurrencies are good currencies, and a good example is SQUID, a cryptocurrency that was created in response to the hype related to the viral show Squid Game. The creators of SQUID, who were anonymous started to trade the cryptocurrency on October 26, 2021, for less than a dollar. By November 1, 2021, the price of the currency rose from $38 to $2,862. That same day it was game over as the anonymous creators of the currency pulled the $3.4 million dollars that was invested into the crypto coin and left all the investors penniless.

One of the ways that the creators where able to do this was by preventing those who invested in the coin from being able to sell the coin to take their profits. If you decided to invest in Cryptocurrencies, it’s important for you to understand that some platforms (brokers) and coins restrict you on when you can sell your coins. Depending on what country you live in, it’s also important to find out if cryptocurrency is legal or illegal.

The book of Genesis is the first book of the Bible and part of the Pentateuch, the five books written by Moses. The book contains 50 chapters. It starts with Creation and ends with the life and death of Joseph.

02 PENTATEUCH

Pentateuch means five and refers to the five books of the Bible written by Moses. These books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. These five books make up the books of the Torah or the Jewish Bible. From Genesis to Deuteronomy, in Hebrew these books are known as Be-reshit, Shemot, Va-yikra, Bemidbar and Devarim.
