they are read.
The Lord has been our dwelling place throughout the generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, before God even formed the earth, from everlasting to everlasting the Lord is God. Our God rules over heaven and earth with justice, mercy, and steadfast love. Let us worship God. HYMN 624
I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art
TOULON
Hymn 624—The original PRAYER OF CONFESSION unison French text, sometimes attributed to John Calvin, seems to be a Protestant reworking of a Roman
Catholic
hymn,
not
a
typical practice for him. Yet this text and tune (adapted from GENEVAN 124) clearly date from the early years of the Reformed tradition.
God of mercy, you have given us the law and the prophets and sent us your son, Jesus Christ. You have shown us the way, but we fail to follow in it. We disobey your commands. We do not love you fully. We do not show love for our neighbors, and sometimes we cannot even love ourselves. Forgive us, holy God. Free our hearts to love completely in the way of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen. 1
