commissioned in the summer of 2020 to study the historic aspects of GSPC's sanctuary, to assess the current textiles, and to make a recommendation for improvements sanctuary

history The task force was formed in response to the need for a decision-making body to be in place following an extensive termite remediation.
SCOPE & SEQUENCE
floor The carpeted flooring on the main level and balcony is 21 years old and has outlived its ability to be properly maintained and cleaned. In addition, portions were cut and
removed
as
part
of
the
termite
remediation,
contributing to the need to replace the carpeting. The historic component suggests that the original flooring would have been of a hardwood, similar to what is found in between each pew. A select red oak hardwood, the same flooring as is currently on the chancel, has been selected as a durable, long-term replacement to the carpet. The wood flooring between the pews dates to the early 1900's and remains in good repair. The patina has aged desirably and offers a beauty only experienced by age and wear. This flooring will be cleaned, sealed, and finished with a semi-gloss coating.
pews The pews are a composite of mahogany uppers and painted pine lowers, with painted dividers. They present with a cushioned back rest and seat of a commercial grade flame-stitch upholstery in a traditional design dating nearly 45 years in age. The most recent update to the pews took place in 1976. Since that time, normal wear and tear of both the wood and upholstery have occurred, and the mortise joints have loosened. The fabric is dated and faded in color, and has begun to adhere to clothing when contact is made. The mahogany uppers will be cleaned, touched-up and filled, and
hand-rubbed in the style of "French polish."
The painted lowers and dividers will be cleaned, touchedup and filled, and hand rub finished. The upholstery and filler will be removed and replaced with a commercial textured velvet with high durability and 10-year warranty that satisfies the mandate for local and state fire code.
chancel The bishops chairs on the chancel are in need of general maintenance to reseat and tighten the arms and replace the casters. The velvet backs and seats have worn with age and will be replaced with a high-end textured velvet of the same color. Areas of high traffic around the chancel that are painted white will be touched up. Other chancel furniture will be cleaned and painting touched up.

facts 1) How long will the project last?
June through August. The work will be completed by our fall kick-off on September 12.
2) How will this affect Sunday morning worship?
It won't! All contractor's have committed to our sanctuary being available on Sunday mornings, although we will see evidence of their work throughout the summer.
