MOBILE COUNTY TRAINING SCHOOL This Middle School is located in the Africa Town area of Mobile, serving students in grades sixth through eighth.

Members of the school faculty identify students that are in need of tutorial sessions that may help them achieve academic success. Our volunteer mentors supplement and complement areas of learning such as writing and speaking, as well as offering fun activities including arts and crafts. This program encourages students giving them self-confidence and an adult in their life that listens to them with friendship and concern. Volunteers from GSPC and others in our community meet weekly with their assigned students in classes with four students and two adults.

Each Christmas card recipient will receive a description of the following programs or organizations that have received a donation in their honor.

URBAN MINISTRY PROGRAM GSPC’s “Meals on Wheels” volunteers deliver a hot and nutritious lunch and snack to 50 neighboring homebound folks. In 1827, when our church sanctuary was dedicated, the Reverend John Warren stated that our church is a place where “the rich and poor shall meet together knowing that the Lord God is maker of them all.” It is a joy of our congregation to fulfill Rev. Warren’s words.

MINISTRY OF HOPE, LESOTHO, AFRICA This contribution will not only help provide nutrition, shelter, and medical care to orphans, but also support the adoption assistance program, temporary housing for foster children, and respond to the needs of abandoned children in this HIV-stricken country. In 2009, responding to the needs of children in the impoverished country of Lesotho, congregations in the Presbyterian Church (USA) rented a small burned out house and converted it into a home for children. The three bedroom, one bath house is not adequate for the needs of the 35+ children currently living there. Funds are now being raised to buy property and build a facility that will meet their future needs.

LIVING WATERS FOR THE WORLD This is a global mission of the Synod of Living Waters of the Presbyterian Church (USA), which provides training to individuals in the building and installing of water purification systems throughout the world. Hundreds of people are instructed each year at Clean Water U, located at Camp Hopewell in Oxford, MS to travel the globe installing water purification systems that provide clean water to millions. Living Water for the World has installed water purification systems in over 800 communities in 25 countries.

FAMILY PROMISE OF COASTAL ALABAMA This nationwide program committed to helping lowincome families achieve lasting independence was brought to Mobile with seed money donated by GSPC. Family Promise provides safe shelter, meals, and support services for homeless families, and through programs designed to address the underlying causes of homelessness. GSPC along with 13 other local host churches rotate the responsibility of providing three meals daily, lodging, and welcoming care for a week to families in need of shelter. Our volunteers cook and serve meals, assist with children, interact with all guests and stay overnight at the church. Social Service Agencies refer families to Family Promise. (continued on the back)
