gsLearn Calling all leaders! Have you heard about our New Leader Training Series in gsLearn? This is a collection of valuable trainings full of great information for getting started on your journey. If you are a new troop leader, these Learning Paths will be a required part of your onboarding. If you’re not new, these courses are a great refresher.

Learn about additional new trainings in gsLearn in the Volunteer Trainings section on page 3.

Using VTK, leaders can easily communicate with caregivers about upcoming meetings, what girls will be doing/learning, attendance and any help needed.

Already using VTK? Don’t forget that this year’s info will end on Aug. 2nd and the calendar will rollover to next year. You’ll still have access to this year’s info in the archive through the end of September.

Volunteer Toolkit Plan your year using this free online tool. The Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) is a digital resource that supports volunteers in delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Juliettes (Individually Registered Members) in managing their own experience with their caregiver, ensuring every girl has the opportunity to build a lifetime of leadership, success and adventure.

Early Bird Renewal may have ended on June 30th, but it’s not too late to renew your membership or register new girls and adults to your troop!

Now through July 31st, new girls and adults can join with an Extended Year Membership and get the rest of this year and all of next year for a reduced price.

Our “What Can GSCB Do For You” calls have started to have an impact.

YOUR feedback and suggestions are shaping business decisions and projects here at Girl Scouts of the Chespeake Bay.

Mandated Reporter Training As Girl Scout Volunteers, we are called to action to be role models and to protect the safety and well-being of our Girl Scouts. This means that there may come a time where we need to be prepared to handle uncomfortable circumstances to protect one of our members. In a situation involving child abuse and neglect, it is important that each and every one of us are able to understand our responsibilities as Mandated Reporters for a youth serving organization.

*This will be a REQUIRED training for all volunteers in a Service Unit or Troop Leader role in MY23 and is highly recommended to all volunteers. Guidelines in this training are relevant to all states within the GSCB footprint (DE, MD, VA), and individual reporting information for each state will be shared.

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with the State of Delaware Office of the Child Advocate to provide virtual training opportunities to our volunteers. Through this training we will gain an understanding of relevant state laws, requirements for reporting, and the signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect, and will receive guidance on reasons to report and information on how to report.

SU First Aid and CPR Training Requests This is a blended First Aid, CPR and AED course, consisting of two parts: online and in-person.

• The online training is completed by the participant prior to attending the in-person training, and can be completed at their own pace and will save their progress as they complete each step. Plan for the online training to take 2-2.5 hours to complete.

• The in-person component will review the online training with each participant accurately demonstrating each skill.

• Location must be secured by Service Unit.

• Date and time determined by Service Unit and trainer.

• Price: $30/participant • Minimum Age: 12 yrs. (Leaders needing training should be given priority in your SU) • Minimum 4 participants, Maximum 12 participants If you’re interested in scheduling this training, email MemberCare@cbgsc.org.

GSUSA 2022 New and Updated Program: Girl Scouts is excited to bring you new and updated program, along with informative trainings and changes to the VTK that will make being a Troop Leader even easier. This training provides a preview of what’s new in Summer 2022.

200 Leave No Trace: This training covers Leave No Trace - the 7 principles of how to interact with your environment to minimize your impact and promote the longevity of the earth and its ecosystems. This training highlights how GSCB embraces Leave No Trace on its properties, but also covers other landscapes and climates to provide a robust education on the true way to live and breathe Leave No Trace no matter where you are!

GSUSA Delivering Inclusive Program: In this course, you will practice using inclusive and equitable language to support the identities of all Girl Scouts and foster a cohesive troop environment. This course launches a series of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) trainings that will be released throughout the summer in preparation for an opportunity to continue the conversation in-person this fall!

Junior Facilitators In response to feedback we received regarding more program and leadership opportunities for older girls, as well as research done when creating Small Craft training, we’re excited to share a big change!

Girls who participate in the trainings will receive badges. Additionally, by earning hours as a Junior Facilitator, they can work toward earning their Service to Girl Scouts bar!

Girls 14+ can now become Junior Facilitators for Small Craft and girls 15+ can become Junior Facilitators for Archery, Slingshot, and Hatchet!

This year’s Service Unit Summit, formerly known as Service Unit Team Kickoff, will be held Aug. 20th, 2022 from 9AM - 5PM. This year’s event will serve as an opportunity for Service Unit level volunteers to come together and learn about updates, engage in peer-to-peer learning, network across SUs, and more. We are finalizing the location details and will communicate the location and registration information as soon as possible. We hope to see you there!

Discover Delmarva - Try out this new Council own patch with your troop or on your own to explore both GSCB camp properties and the beautiful national, state, and local parks within our footprint.

Through this challenge, GSUSA and Johnson & Johnson Foundation are committed to getting youth outdoors to learn more about climate science, understand how communities are impacted by climate change, and spread awareness to create sustainable change.

Denyelle Hart, former Volunteer Support Specialist, left the GSCB Team on June 24, 2022, to pursue a new opportunity. Denyelle has been an integral member of our Volunteer Support Team. She’s helped to develop resources, train volunteers, create efficiencies, and ensured her Service Units had the support needed to be successful.

We wish Denyelle all the best.

Charlene Phillips, Volunteer Support Specialist, will leave the GSCB Team on July 25, 2022, to pursue a new opportunity. Charlene has been an integral member of our Volunteer Support Team. She’s helped reevaluate our Bronze and Silver award processes, as well as provided valuable insight and feedback on several ongoing projects. We wish Charlene all the best.

NRC Summer Closure

If you have questions or need to access the NRC for any reason, please contact MemberCare@cbgsc.org.

Beginning Monday, June 27th, the NRC is closed to the general public. All GSCB staff members will be working remotely, or in-person by appointment/event. The NRC will reopen to the public Monday, September 5th.

The 2021-2022 membership year has brought the first increase in overall membership that GSCB has realized since 2009. We couldn’t have done it without our volunteers and caregivers, committing to engaging in and sharing their Girl Scout journey!
