within one another have been developed into separate icons for easy access and identification,” said New Media Specialist Michael LaBrie. The Resource Board, where each division’s KnightFiles sections have always been located, has been renamed Resources and the three divisions’ KnightFiles pages are now available to all parents for viewing. The News menu contains a Recent Activity link (formerly the Activity Stream) along with an athletic Scoreboard and Archived Content database. The Calendars section of the site can be found adjacent to the News menu and contains a full athletics schedule in addition to the 2014-15 academic calendar. The Directories tab has been updated to work more efficiently across mobile devices. Gill’s KnightSite layout has been altered for ease of use.

Opportunities to learn more or ask questions about KnightSite will be available during back to school nights in September. If necessary, extra help will also be offered at scheduled Parents’ Association Coffee Chats throughout the year.

STUDENT LIFE RECAP Lower School Families Enjoy the Fruits of their Labor Fruits and vegetables weren’t the only living things maturing in the GSB garden this summer. Each week, faculty members met with Lower School families to broaden their minds—and appetites—while participating in the first-ever Garden Growers Group. With tools in hand and galoshes on foot, the Garden Growers spent three hours every Thursday morning planting, weeding and harvesting a wide assortment of goods. Lower School science teacher Lynn Prosen established the organization with the goal of transforming Gill’s bountiful garden of potatoes, eggplant, peppers and more into a place where families could gather, learn and grow. “It’s the perfect place to learn about lifecycles, insects, food and food preservation,” said Prosen, who ventured past the brook and to the garden throughout the 2013-14 school year to harvest plants of different families with her students. “I’m so glad that the children involved were able to see the type of growth and changes from week to week and to reap the fresh produce in the end. The program truly shed light on the importance of caring for the environment.” After selecting all desired items from the batch, the Garden Growers Group donated the remaining produce to the GSB dining hall for lunch throughout the summer. Prosen also plans to dehydrate, freeze, can, pickle and ferment any other unused foods as a means of teaching preservation methods to students during the 2014-15 academic year.

Jamison Wright ’23 spends some time with the Garden Growers Group.

While the GSB garden is still active, all Lower School families are invited to join the Garden Growers Group after school each Thursday from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. this fall. Parental supervision is required.
