Morag Malcolm Invitation Triples

Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships The Scottish Schools Track and Field championships attracts competitors from Shetland to the Scottish Borders. Held over two days in Grangemouth the cream of Scottish teenage talent is on display. There were not only medals to be won, but possible selection for the Schools International Home Country International to be held in September.

Bishopton Team skipped by Ian Loudon The Morag Malcolm Invitation Triples was held on Sunday July 3rd for the first time for three years. The Tournament was sponsored by the Malcolm Group and attracted sixteen teams from all over the district. Some very tight games were played with the team from Bishopton skipped by Ian Loudon coming out on top.

Star of the show was without doubt was Zara Redmond. The Gryffe High School pupil won both the 800m and 1500m winning not only two gold medals, but the TSB Trophy for her performance in the 800m. In the past the trophy has been won by luminaries such as Eilish McColgan and Jemma Reekie. Zara’s times of 2.14.95 and 4.40.53 took her the top of the Scottish Rankings.

Pairs Plate A Four Bowl Mixed Pairs Competition for the Lindsay Plate was held in beautiful sunshine on Saturday 9th July. The picture below shows the winners and the runners-up just before their contest - Left to right – the winners Peter and Angela Connell, along with Colin Greig and Moira Wilson.

Not to be outdone Zara’s training partner, Kilmacolm’s Amy Teasdale, running in the older age group, also took gold in the 1500m. Amy ran a controlled heat to qualify for the final and came away from the field down the home straight win in 4.44.85. Amy is undefeated over the distance this year with a personal best time of 4.41.85. While the male athletes could not match the exploits of their female club mates Alistair Street and Oliver Patton both won silver medals again in the 1500m. Since the start of the season Alistair has lowered his personal best from 4.37.6 to 4.22.17 and now lies sixth in the Scottish rankings.

Oliver’s focus in recent weeks is a place on the Great Britain team for the European Youth Championships in Israel. He could not emulate his recent success in the indoor 1500m and had to settle for a silver medal.
