Kilmacolm Golf Club

The golfing season has started with a flourish (and the odd flurry of snow) with our season opener attracting 200 members from all sections of the club it was great to see our juniors, ladies and gents all on out enjoying the course. There was also a real buzz outside the clubhouse with the arrival of our new catering outlet run by Neil giving us a glimpse of normality of enjoying a bite to eat and a drink after your game. The first Ladies competition of the season was held on Thursday 18 March in glorious sunshine. 54 ladies played 9 holes and were also treated to the new caterer’s delicious picnic lunchboxes, which went down a treat. Nicky Stirrup and Jane Wilson came out winners, with Anabel Kane and Brenda Rankin a close second. Due to continuing restrictions the annual ladies social was an online affair which we are all more accustomed to now, with over 50 ladies joining us on Zoom. After a brief talk on the new handicap system and upcoming competitions there was an online quiz which proved great fun, thank to Michelle the Ladies secretary for organising. Our younger players are also back into the swing of things, our Junior Section continues to thrive with 60 young golfers attending Easter Golf Camps and over 30 taking part in April for our 18, 9 and 7 hole events catering for all abilities. We have a big event coming up on Tuesday 1 June - a Texas Scramble - for all juniors from 6-18 years old. It will be a fun way to end the Mid Term holiday. Our website and app list all the events for the month of May. We are fully engaged with Scottish Golf who are supporting our juniors with various coaching resources and their club hire scheme. New members are very welcome - it’s an ideal time to take up and improve your golf. With the return of the Masters, we held our inaugural 9 hole Par 3 competition, a great event that saw nearly 60 players from a cross section of the club approaching the greens from different angles and distances to the norm, with an interesting set up of the course, well done to our winners David Etheridge and Jamie Whyte! With the clubhouse now re-opened we will be offering catering and bar services again, (alcohol served within Government guidelines) with a large indoor space allowing distancing it will be a great spot for catching up over a cuppa or a bite to eat we look forward to welcoming everyone again. Our indoor golf studio will also be open once again, giving the perfect opportunity for indoor tuition, practice or social golf. Alongside, our Pro Shop will be fully open with an array of golfing goodies on sale, and our Pros are taking lessons both up at the range or in the indoor studio.
