Thanks to Franco Zeffirelli, a cultural centre for the performing arts and cinematography has been created in Florence Nasce, grazie al regista fiorentino Franco Zeffirelli, un polo di cultura delle arti sceniche e cinematrografiche The Franco Zeffirelli International Centre for the Performing Arts was created in the former Court building in Piazza San Firenze. It is an immense collection that includes objects that have left their mark in the history of Italian cinema and entertainment throughout the world, and will be open to the public starting in October. A student of Luchino Visconti and creator of film masterpieces such as Romeo and Juliet (1969), Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1971), and the television movie Jesus of Nazareth (1976), as well as memorable opera productions for the largest opera theatres in the world, from La Scala to the Verona Arena and from Covent Garden to the Metropolitan, Franco Zeffirelli wanted to donate the fruits of his imaginative and gifted spirit to Florence and the world, so that nothing is lost or ignored, with everything that is vital for the creative force of young talents in the various areas of the performing arts. We met with Pippo Zeffirelli, adopted son of the great Florentine director and set designer, who is executive vice president of the Foundation and to whom we owe the creation of this new conservational and creative venue in Florence. What awaits us once we cross the threshold? The ground floor holds classrooms, the Library, and the Archive, as well as the reception and refreshment areas. The first floor hosts the actual museum, in an engaging and captivating setting. Here we enter into Franco Zeffirelli’s creative “fury”, transferred into any type of performance art he tackled and it is manifested in the sketches, which describe each scene in every detail and with the summarizing and expressive director’s notes to the side. But there is something unique and unprecedented that will amaze visitors at the end of the exhibition narrative ... That’s right, the Sala dell’inferno where there is a full HD short film that was made by digitally animating the sketches and drawings the Maestro created to give shape to his personal vision of hell drawn from the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. The project, created in the 70s, was never realized because no partners were found for such a major production effort. Zeffirelli intended his Dante to have the face of Dustin Hoffman.
Il Centro internazionale per le arti dello spettacolo Franco Zeffirelli è nato, nella ex sede del Tribunale in piazza San Firenze. Una collezione immensa che comprende oggetti che hanno lasciato il segno nella storia del cinema e dello spettacolo italiano nel mondo, aperta al pubblico da ottobre. Allievo di Luchino Visconti e autore di capolavori cinematografici come Romeo e Giulietta (1969), Fratello sole, sorella luna (1971) e il film per la televisione Gesù di Nazareth (1976), ma anche memorabili allestimenti lirici per i più grandi teatri d’opera nel mondo dalla Scala all’Arena di Verona, dal Covent Garden al Metropolitan, Franco Zeffirelli ha voluto donare i frutti del suo spirito, immaginifico e geniale, a Firenze e al mondo, perché nulla vada perduto o ignorato, ma tutto sia linfa vitale per la forza creativa di giovani talenti nelle varie declinazioni delle arti dello spettacolo. Abbiamo incontrato Pippo Zeffirelli, figlio adottivo del grande regista e scenografo fiorentino, vicepresidente della Fondazione grazie alla quale si deve la nascita di questa nuova fucina conservativa e creativa a Firenze. Varcata la soglia, che cosa ci attende? Al pianterreno hanno trovato spazio le sale didattiche, la Biblioteca e l’Archivio nonché gli spazi di accoglienza e di ristoro. Il primo piano ospita il Museo vero e proprio, in un allestimento che avvince e coinvolge. Si entra nel ‘furor’ creativo di Franco Zeffirelli, trasferito in ogni tipo di spettacolo egli abbia affrontato e manifestatosi nei bozzetti, che descrivono nei minimi particolari ogni scena e accolgono a latere le note di regia, sintetiche ed espressive. Ma c’è una cosa unica e inedita che stupirà i visitatori alla fine del percorso… Esatto, è la Sala dell’Inferno dove è proiettato in full HD un cortometraggio realizzato animando con tecniche digitali i bozzetti e i disegni che il Maestro ha creato per dare forma alla sua personale visione dell’inferno tratto dalla Divina Commedia di Dante Alighieri. Il progetto nato negli anni ‘70 non venne mai realizzato perché non si trovarono alleanze per uno sforzo produttivo così importante. Il Dante di Firenze | made in Tuscany 135
