A VISIONARY PROJECT

A story of great entrepreneurial spirit, imagination and art: we can so summarize the past 70 years of the Farsetti family, on the international art scene since the Fifties. Farsettiarte was founded in Prato in 1955 by Frediano and Franco Farsetti, over the years adding galleries in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1964, Versilia in 1969, and finally in Milan in 1982. A new location in Prato, next to the Luigi Pecci Museum of Contemporary Art, was inaugurated in 1991. A further important chapter of this story took place in Cortina in 2001 when the Belvedere - Pocol cable car departure station was acquired with a view to renovating it and turning it into a large gallery with an international aura. The building overlooks the old Town Hall and the Basilica of Saints Philip and James on one side, and the beautiful Cortina d’Ampezzo mountains on the other. This courageous decision by Frediano and Franco saw them engaged in its construction for over 20 years, and finally rewarded with the effective approval of the ambitious project by the local authorities. Inaugurated in 2020, the Cortina Gallery is a cultural center in the true sense of the word. Distinguished by huge windows overlooking the mountains - almost natural trompe l’oeil decorating the walls of the space - the heart of the gallery is the central exhibition space divided into three areas. This extremely versatile venue lends itself to hosting very different artists and events. The building next to the Gallery has been designed for organizing cultural events and encounters. On display in the new Gallery, as was the case in the original premises, are the great artists of Italian and international Modern Art, who have always reflected the DNA of Farsettiarte. Over the years, Franco and Frediano’s children, who now run the Gallery, have made more and more frequent digressions into contemporary art. Inaugurating this year’s winter season is the artist Toxic, a fascinating exponent of street art, who along with Basquiat and Keith Haring, was part of the New York graffiti movement. Una storia di grande spirito imprenditoriale, di fantasia e arte: si possono riassumere così 70 anni di vicende della famiglia Farsetti, dagli anni ’50 sulla scena dell’arte internazionale. La Farsettiarte è stata infatti fondata a Prato nel 1955 da Frediano e Franco Farsetti. Si aggiungono negli anni la galleria di Cortina d’Ampezzo nel 1964, la galleria in Versilia nel 1969, ed infine a Milano nel 1982. Nel 1991 è stata inaugurata la nuova sede di Prato a fianco del Museo per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci. Un capitolo importante di questa storia si svolge proprio a Cortina e si ricollega all’acquisizione di Farsetti della stazione di partenza della Funivia Belvedere - Pocol nel 2001, per ristrutturarla e farne una grande Galleria dall’aura internazionale. La struttura è affacciata da un lato sul Comune Vecio e sulla Basilica dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo e dall’altro sulle più belle montagne di Cortina d’Ampezzo. Una scelta coraggiosa quella di Frediano e Franco che li ha visti impegnati nella sua realizzazione per oltre 20 anni, e premiata infine con l’effettiva approvazione dell’ambizioso progetto da parte degli enti comunali. Inaugurata nel 2020, la Galleria di Cortina è un centro culturale nel vero senso della parola: caratterizzata da enormi vetrate che si affacciano sulle montagne, quasi trompe l’oeil naturali, la galleria ha il suo cuore nello spazio espositivo centrale diviso in tre aree. Un luogo molto versatile che si presta a ospitare artisti e eventi anche molto diversi tra loro. La costruzione adiacente alla Galleria è stata pensata per organizzare manifestazioni e incontri culturali. In mostra nella nuova Galleria, come succedeva nella sede storica, i grandi artisti dell’Arte Moderna italiana ed internazionale, che da sempre rispecchiano il Dna di Farsettiarte. Negli anni sono sempre più frequenti le digressioni nel contemporaneo, volute dai figli di Franco e Frediano che oggi seguono la Galleria. A inaugurare la stagione invernale quest’anno l’artista Toxic, affascinante esponente della Street art, che si è formato nella New York di Basquiat e Keith Haring.
