He just turned forty years old, half of which spent as one of the most popular Italian singers. When he was barely 19, in fact, from Bologna he headed straight for the top of the charts on his Vespa 50 special scooter. It was the year 1999, the year of the Lùnapop and of ...Squérez?. In 2002, he chose to continue as a soloist orienting himself towards a unique and unmistakable style, turning out one hit after another. But music is not his only passion. If you take a look at his Instagram page, you realize how deeply he loves nature and, in particular, the mountains. A love that takes him often to Cortina, where he used to go as a child with his parents.
What is the first thing that comes to your mind if I say Cortina?
Little red skis, the first pair of skis I ever skied with. My mother smiling and laughing as she watches me deep in snow. Then travelling. My father making the sign of the cross and praying the Our Father prayer before hitting the road, the old road winding through the mountains, the stop for lunch in tiny villages off the tourist path. Then a week-long vacation at the Belvedere Hotel, Mr. Majoni, the hotel owner, eyeing at me in a way that made me laugh and tremble with fear at the same time: beautiful and cheerful memories stamped in my heart forever.
More and more people seek for quiet and wellbeing amid nature. Do you feel such a need too?
For some years now, I have been showing the beauty of the Dolomites on social media, describing it to my followers. I believe that nature and life in the mountains offer increasingly sought-after values, such as politeness, kindness and a culture of respect for the environment.
Your favorite places in Cortina?
I enjoy going to Lake Misurina, where my friend Angelo runs a restaurant with his wife and daughters. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo is my favorite place, but also the trail leading to the Sennes refuge, where you can enjoy the best frittata in the Dolomites. The Rosapetra Hotel is run by some very special people who are always so kind to me. Breakfast at the Alverà pastry shop is a must-try. Dal 2002 Cesare Cremonini prende la sua strada da solista, raccontando pezzi di vita, emozioni, suggestioni in un linguaggio unico e inconfondibile, che lo ha portato a collezionare un successo dopo l’altro. Ma la musica non è la sua sola passione. Basta scorrere la sua pagina Instagram per capire il suo amore per la natura e in particolare la montagna. Un amore che lo porta spesso a Cortina, dove veniva fin da piccolo con i suoi genitori.
Se dico Cortina cosa ti viene in mente?
I piccoli sci rossi con cui ho sciato la prima volta. Mia mamma che ride felice vedendomi sulla neve. Poi i viaggi. Mio padre che faceva il segno della croce e intonava un poco rassicurante Padre Nostro prima della partenza, la vecchia strada che attraversava le montagne, la sosta per pranzo tra frazioni dimenticate dai percorsi turistici. Poi la settimana bianca all’hotel Belvedere, lo sguardo del signor Majoni, il padrone dell’hotel, che mi faceva ridere e tremare dalla paura insieme: ricordi spensierati, bellissimi, che mi porto nel cuore.
Sempre più persone cercano pace e benessere a contatto con la natura. Anche tu senti questa necessità?
Da qualche anno sui social mostro la bellezza delle Dolomiti, raccontandola al pubblico che mi segue. Credo che la natura e la vita di montagna offrano valori sempre più ricercati, come l’educazione, la gentilezza e la cultura del rispetto verso l’ambiente.
I tuoi luoghi del cuore a Cortina?
Amo andare al lago di Misurina, dove il mio amico Angelo, con la moglie e le figlie, gestisce il ristorante. Le Tre Cime di Lavaredo sono il mio luogo del cuore, ma anche il percorso che porta al rifugio Sennes, dove c’è la frittata migliore delle Dolomiti. L’hotel Rosapetra è gestito da

make the difference when it comes to loving a place. Even a beautiful place like Cortina.
What made you into a mountain-goer, in particular, to Cortina?
I’ve been going there very often since I reached adulthood to play sports: with Giorgio Omoboni, a personal trainer with whom I share a passion for cycling, and with my girlfriend. My quality of life would be definitely poorer without Cortina. I come as often as possible to detoxify, breathe clean air and train for my tours, which are getting increasingly demanding.
The cover of your new album, La Ragazza del Futuro, clearly makes reference to the world of nature, to an untouched and pure future. Where does this vision come from?
From the idea that nature, both the animal and vegetable kingdom, is the world’s real driving force. Man’s survival depends on the survival of the various species and their environments, even from the economic point of view. Which is why the tragedy experienced by the Visdende Valley pained me so much. My heart goes out to all the people affected by the disaster.
Cortina has always attracted writers and intellectuals. Do you think that some contexts encourage cultural exchange?
Some holiday destinations are cultural hubs nestled in nature. It is a fact that Italy does not have a cultural elite ruling it anymore. Therefore, cultural events are very important, they bring people closer to reading, to cinema, to a heritage of inestimable value. I would like Cortina to become the Italian capital of cultural festivals, it would be the ideal place.
In December 2021, you published Let them talk. Ogni canzone è una storia: what is the difference between sharing yourself through a book or through music?
They are different yet complementary experiences: through music, you strive to achieve the perfect synthesis of what you experienced in life, while maintaining a certain ambiguity, which is crucial to the success of a song. With books, clearness is the priority.
How do you feel at the thought of finally kicking off your stadiums tour which was cancelled in 2020?
Performing in stadiums is my childhood dream. A tour like this is the fruit of my entire career. I feel grateful and excited at the thought of going back to performing live. The audience of live shows is my second family and I can’t wait to see them again. persone speciali che mi accolgono con grande gentilezza. Cosa ti ha fatto avvicinare alla montagna, e a Cortina in particolare?
Da adulto la frequento moltissimo per lo sport: con Giorgio Omoboni, personal trainer con cui condivido la passione per la bici, e con la mia ragazza. Senza Cortina la qualità della mia vita sarebbe decisamente peggiore. Vengo appena posso per disintossicarmi, riprendere fiato e allenarmi per i tour, che sono sempre più impegnativi.
La copertina del tuo nuovo album, La Ragazza del Futuro, è un riferimento al mondo della natura, a un futuro dal volto incontaminato e puro. Da cosa nasce questa visione?
Dall’idea che sia la natura, animale e vegetale, la vera forza generatrice del mondo. Dalla sopravvivenza delle varie specie e dei loro habitat dipende quella dell’uomo, anche dal punto di vista economico. Ecco perché ho sofferto molto per il dramma vissuto dalla val Visdende. Sono vicino con il cuore a tutte le persone coinvolte.
Cortina è da sempre meta di scrittori e intellettuali. Pensi che alcuni contesti favoriscano lo scambio culturale?
Alcuni luoghi di vacanza sono salotti culturali immersi nella natura. È ormai chiaro come l’Italia non abbia più un’élite culturale che la guidi. Perciò le manifestazioni sono importantissime, avvicinano persone diverse alla lettura, al cinema, a un patrimonio inestimabile. Vorrei che Cortina diventasse la capitale italiana dei festival culturali, sarebbe un luogo ideale.
A dicembre 2021 hai pubblicato Let them talk. Ogni canzone è una storia: che differenza c’è tra raccontarsi con un libro o in musica?
Sono esperienze diverse e complementari: in musica si cerca una sintesi perfetta di ciò che si è vissuto, ma mantenendo una certa ambiguità interpretativa, fondamentale per il successo di una canzone. In un libro la chiarezza è la cosa più importante, si approfondisce.
Come ti senti all’idea di poter finalmente dare il via al tour negli stadi cancellato nel 2020?
Suonare negli stadi è il mio sogno fin da bambino. Un tour come questo è il frutto del lavoro di una vita intera. Mi sento grato e entusiasta all’idea di ripartire. Il pubblico del live è la mia seconda famiglia e non vedo l’ora di rivederla.
