Where did your passion for craftsmanship and wood come from?

Our passion for wood goes back a long way. Our career began in our teenage years, as was the custom here until some 40 years ago. It was by chance; back then that’s how it went: you were young, you needed to work so you chose a trade without thinking too hard about it.

And the passion came later…

Today wood is our great passion, you might almost say it’s an obsession, an essential part of our lives. In our work, art and craft blend with design.

What does being artisans of wood mean to you?

It means working with our hearts and our hands; the resulting piece is one of many expressions of our soul.

How do you choose your raw materials?

They come from old wine barrels, ancient farmhouses and other old buildings in the Ampezzo area, which are carefully dismantled; we give a new lease of life to old wood with centuries-old stories. Its particular beauty and durability are the result of long exposure to atmospheric agents; it has already undergone all the changes that occur in wood over time.

What is it that makes your furniture collection unique?

Our items are unique because they’re made from the heart, and not from market surveys.

What’s your feeling about Cortina?

Deep respect for everything it gives us, admiration for the natural spectacle we enjoy every day, and love, because above all, Cortina is our home and our family.

Your favourite saying?

A throne is but a piece of wood covered in velvet (Honoré de Balzac).

Come nasce la vostra passione per l’artigianato e il legno?

La nostra passione per il legno ha origini lontane. La nostra carriera è iniziata durante l’adolescenza, come fino a 40 anni fa succedeva abitualmente qui da noi. E’ stato un caso, in quegli anni funzionava così: eri giovane, dovevi lavorare e allora sceglievi un mestiere senza pensarci troppo.

Poi sono arrivate le emozioni…

Oggi il legno è la nostra grande passione, potrei dire quasi una ossessione, un aspetto della nostra vita irrinunciabile. Nel nostro lavoro l’arte e il mestiere si fondono con il design.

Cosa significa per voi essere artigiani del legno?

Significa lavorare con il cuore e con le mani, l’oggetto che ne deriva rappresenta una delle tante rappresentazioni dell’anima.

Come scegliete la materia prima e da dove proviene?

Proviene da antichi masi, da botti di vino e da altre vecchie costruzioni del territorio ampezzano che vengono sapientemente smontati e noi provvediamo a rendere nuova vita a quel vecchio legno che racconta storie secolari. Le sue particolarità preziose e la sua resistenza sono il frutto della lunga esposizione agli agenti atmosferici che hanno già segnato nel tempo tutte le modifiche che il legno può subire.

L’elemento che rende unica la vostra collezione di mobili?

Sono unici perché vengono dal cuore non da indagini di mercato.

Cosa provate per Cortina?

Un profondo rispetto per tutto quello che ci offre, ammirazione per lo spettacolo naturale che ogni giorno ci regala e amore perché Cortina per noi è su tutto la nostra casa e la nostra famiglia.

La frase che fareste vostra?

Un trono non è che un pezzo di legno rivestito di velluto (Honoré de Balzac).
