Nelson Mandela Day FOR anyone who has not decided what they will do for 67 minutes on Nelson Mandela Day, this is a reminder to plan your activities for Friday, 17 July. Every year on the great man's birthday, 18 July, South Africans are asked to con-

tribute 67 minutes of community service to honour Madiba's legacy of 67 years of public service. This day is internationally recognized. For instance, United Nations personnel throughout the world commemorate it by handing out school supplies, feeding the elderly, helping out orphanages, cleaning up parks etc. Please notify the Greytown Gazette, for publication in the issue of 16 July, what your 67 minutes commitment is.

Greytown Country Club Midlands Hoopoe this year is due on the 12th, 13th and 14th September. It is a 3 day golf tournament featuring all golf courses affiliated to the Midlands Golf Association. Not all could participate this year but the following are on the agenda: The first 2 days (Friday and Saturday) are at: Greytown CC, Mooi River CC, Boschoek GC, Sakabula GC and Richmond CC. (other MGA clubs are Noodsberg, Estcourt and Gowrie). The final day is at Howick GC. The Friday and Saturday are ‘Better Ball’ (ie the teams are split) and the final is an ‘Alliance’. All scores are added to determine

the winners. We had 4 Hoopoe tournaments from 2004 – 07 and we want to resurrect it – it was very popular. We will promote it throughout KZN and even further. We are expecting teams from PE and Pongola already! We want the Hoopoe to become as well known as the “Jock of the Bushveld” in Nelspruit and we will hope to start attracting golfers potentially in their 100’s!! At R400 a head it is said to be for ‘nothing’!! Sponsorship is going to be our next challenge! We need nice prizes, and hopefully ‘sponsored’ accommodation for visitors during the tournament. Prizes that promote the Amble are highly valued. Pairs of prizes will be suitable for the first four days and 4 items more suitable for the final day (this is not binding though). We will be preparing a sponsorship form to explain the options and how banners, notices, pamphlets etc can be used. We want to involve all tourism organizations in the area.I am sure all prizes will promote the ‘hospitality’ of the KZN Midlands in general. Any potential sponsor can contact me directly via clivebrom@telkomsa.net or on 082 417 6886 or 0333305718. “The Mirror image of Elvis” is coming to the Country Club on Sunday 3 August. Tickets are R100 to enjoy the show with music of the king at his best in the 70’s. Show will start at 3pm.Exclusively to Club members and their invited guests. Tickets are available at the Club or contact Elmarie on 0334172441. Peter March lost out on the money on Friday as he was not present at the time. The next attendance draw will be on Friday (11 July) with R1900 up for grabs. Be here at 6:30 – 7pm and you could be the lucky winner. Mascor monthly mug is playing on 12 July with the entry fee only R50, including halftime. T-off will start from 10:30.
