Birding 101: Introduction to Birds June 24 6:30-8:30pm Municipal Building Ever wonder what that bird is in your backyard? Would you like to attract more birds to your yard or have you just started feeding the birds? Whatever your level of interest, this class will surely inspire and teach you all about those happy feathered visitors to your yard and in our area. Join Jessica Rodgers and Ernie Miller of Wild Birds Unlimited Yorktown as they share their photographs and teach you how to identify and attract birds. Cost: $20 per class* Program #141 Birding 102: Spring Migration July 16 6:30-8:30pm Municipal Building Hone your identification skills with this class geared toward Spring and Fall migration. Our area is a vital stop on the Atlantic Flyway with birds stopping through on their way north or even staying to breed and then heading South for the winter. We will look at the various birds from backyard visitors to shorebirds and raptors. Cost per class $20 Program #142 Hooray For Hummingbirds July 31 6:30-8:30pm Municipal Building Who doesn't love these mighty little flyers. Join us for a fun class on these summertime visitors to our backyards. You will learn all about these little marvels as well as how to attract them and feed them. America, Africa, & Asia September 18 7:00-8:15pm Municipal Building Wildlife photographer Ken Conger will present a buffet of spectacular photos captured during his 2013 adventures to Borneo, Sulawesi, India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and many special places in the US. Ken compliments his photos with stories, animal facts, audio and short videos. The program provides a view of a wildlife photographer’s world and the challenges taken in order to capture stunning wildlife images. Deadline to register: September 9 Program #146 Cost: $25 (additional $10 non-residents) Wildlife Photography 101 Saturday September 27, 9am-5pm Municipal Building Are you using a digital camera and enjoy photographing outdoors, do you have a good eye and that wildlife photo did not turn out quite right? Then this seminar is for you. The course is primarily for upper beginners or serious hobbyists, who wish to take their wildlife/nature photography to the next level and own something more than a point and shoot camera. Class segments will concentrate on wildlife photography by teaching the fundamentals (digital sensor and megapixels, equipment, composition, aperture/depth of field) and advanced techniques of digital photography (histogram interpretation, use of ISO, Autofocus, light compensation, required shutter speeds, tools of the trade). Specific concentration will portray "how to get the shot" using different wildlife photo scenarios. This is a three-segment seminar. Part one, will be classroom instruction. Part two, is a field session with students taking photographs and applying taught classroom essentials. Part three, will be back in the classroom to review captured images and applying a digital workflow using Adobe Photoshop. At the conclusion of this course students will have an understanding of the basic operations of their camera, understand photography terminology, what it takes for a good wildlife photo for both printing/ web and tips to becoming a semi-pro photographer.
