Football Camp Instructor: Elliott Duty & PHS Football Staff Ages: 6-18 Monday-Thursday, July 18-21 Friday will serve as weather make-up day. Time: 5:30pm-8pm each evening Location: Middle School Stadium Field Work on basics for passing, punting, and specific positions. Learn fundamentals of the game and conditioning drills to increase speed, coordination and techniques. All participants must preregister. No registration or money taken at the field. Camps Run Monday-Thursday Time: 1-4pm Location: Odd Road Community Center Campers will be introduced to the basics of robotics, and how to build a robot from a kit. Robots will compete in contests just like battle bots. Lots of construction, and problem solving using your robot will all be part of the experience. Construct, building, design and challenges will all be part of the camp week experience. John Hammons is an area science teacher.

This one week camp is designed to be an intensive hands on session to teach students the basic decorating skills needed to decorate cakes and pastries. 2016 SAILING CAMPS Discover the magic of captaining your own boat and learn the fun of sailing this summer. Everyone can learn to sail and skills learned can be used and enjoyed for a lifetime. Join our US Sailing Certified Instructors for camp on the water in Poquoson this summer. Camp packing list and what to bring provided at Registration. Beginner and Intermediate camps will sail in Sunfish Sail boats. Swim test required. All students must be able to swim 50 yards with & without life jacket as well as tread water for 5 minutes. Registration: $75 deposit to reserve your spot and due at initial registration. Remainder due May 1.

Beginner: This course teaches you to sail. No prior sailing experience required. Knowledge of boat rigging, basic sailing, water safety & points of sail emphasized. Campers may attend this course more than once, and those who may have been to a camp prior for 1 week in other programs also qualify to attend this program as many skills are practiced & reinforced to grasp the fundamentals. Ages 8-14. Intermediate: This course continues with sailing fundamentals & allows sailors who have successfully mastered the beginner course to gain greater independence sailing and skill. Learn more advanced boat handling maneuvers. Prior sailing experience required. Ages 8-14 Advanced: Recommended for Ages 12 and older; Prior Sailing Experience required. Sailors will learn Advanced racing skills to include trapeze and spinnaker. Sail 420’s. All campers and guardians will be required to complete liability waiver. Registrants will received information about what to wear and what to bring to camp following completed registration. Instructors and Ratios: All camp programs will be led by US Sailing Certified Level 1 instructors. Natalie Ross, Camp Director and head instructor is an experienced sailor. She currently directs and coaches the Poquoson High School Competition Sailing Team and has been a member of the CNU sailing team for 4 seasons. Courses will not exceed 10 students per session. Assistant Instructor Andrew Hall, also US Sailing Certified Level 1 instructor will assist in providing instruction as well. These 2 instructors will lead and direct the program at all times. All instructors are CPR and First Aid certified. Camp meets daily at determined sites in Poquoson as wind conditions warrant. All ramps in Poquoson. Would you like to serve as a volunteer for our summer camps or programs? Do you enjoy working with children and providing leadership while sharing your knowledge? Serving as a volunteer may be a great opportunity for you. Youth ages 15 or older may apply to serve in the capacity of a camp/program volunteer for some of our programs. Space is limited, however all volunteers must complete volunteer training and pre-screening process for consideration. Camps looking for help include Sailing camps, Sports Galore & More and others as needed. Contact the Office of Community Recreation for more details and application.

Don’t miss out this summer. Swim for the Poquoson Barracuda Swim Team. Open to youth through age 18. Practice begins at the Poquoson Pool on May 31. Registration will open April, 27. Meets are scheduled with area pools throughout the summer. All participants must be able to swim minimum requirements. Lessons Registration will Open May 1 at the Poquoson Office of Community Recreation. All lessons follow the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. Levels 1-5 are offered as well as Pre-school programs designed to get acquainted with the water for ages 3 and 4. Parent and Child options available for those younger than 3.
