Some refer to it as Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19, but the long and short of it, is that after you have recovered, there’re some people who develop new symptoms or have a persistence of the ongoing symptoms.”

Dr. Noel said those symptoms normally develop after four weeks and may persist for months. He explained that these individuals can experience anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, a persistence of shortness of breath and the cough. Some people wait weeks to regain their sense of smell, while others may experience persistent neurological symptoms, such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Ministry of Education Approves Return of More Students to the Classroom

Cherry-Hill Agricultural Feeder Road Project Completed The completion and opening ceremony of the EC $3.1 million Cherry Hill Agricultural Feeder Road Project in Carriacou, was held during the week of October 29.

The project, which lasted 10 months, included the construction of more than 3,000 feet of concrete roads and drains, as well as major retaining walls and driveways.

Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart, in her address at the completion and opening ceremony, commended Sky’s Construction for its excellent execution of the project.

The project was initiated by the late Elvin Nimrod, former Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, and Minister Stewart said she is pleased to have brought it to fruition.

Annual Fishing Vessel Inspection The Fisheries Division commenced its annual inspection of fishing vessels from November 1, and this will continue for a month.

The inspection will be carried out at 16 sites for all registered local vessels, to ensure safety and compliance. Acting Chief Fisheries Officer, George Phillip, explained that the inspection will be done in accordance with Section 11 of the Fisheries Act of 1986, which mandates the licensing and certification of vessels before they can commence or continue their trade at sea.

He said, “It is imperative that all local fishing vessels be inspected and that a certificate be issued upon successful inspection for twelve months. Without passing an inspection and having a certificate that will give you a license, a fisherfolk will not be entitled to fuel rebate or concession. At the same time too, you’ll be breaking the law.”

Lisa Chetram, said, due to COVID-19, this year’s inspection process will be different.

She said, “We are going to ask the captain to bring all the items onto the deck in the open, then one or two persons will inspect the items to ensure they meet the necessary criteria.

Education Infrastructure Update New School for Bishop’s College: Work is on schedule on the new Bishop’s College school, with an expected completion date of March 2022. The new facility is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), through the Grenada Education Enhancement Project (GEEP) at a cost of EC $10.8 million.

River Sallee Government School Facelift: The River Sallee Government School is getting a facelift and much-needed upgrade. It is being repainted; new electrical infrastructure and a railing are being installed to provide safety; the Infant Department is now connected to the rest of the school via a covered passageway. The work at the River Salle Government School is being funded by the Government of Grenada.

Education Infrastructure Update Presentation Brothers College Expansion Project: The $4.7 million expansion project at the Presentation Brothers College, adds an additional, three-storey building to the existing infrastructure and refurbishes a retaining wall. This is part of the Grenada Education Enhancement Project – GEEP, which is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank and contracted to Kenny’s Equipment & Trucking Services.

Grenada SDA Comprehensive School Extension and Upgrade: The Grenada Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive School in Mt. Rose St. Patrick, is being extended by the addition of a new multi-purpose science block. Work is also being done on providing better drainage, along with other refurbishment work. The project is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank, through the Grenada Education Enhancement Project (GEEP).

Distribution Prime Minister of COVID-19 Packages Deeply Saddened by the Death of Former US Secretary of State

Distribution of COVID-19 packages continued in the parishes of St. Mark and St. John with over 60 families receiving support during the week of October 25. This initiative is a collaboration between SAEP and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Prime Minister, Dr. the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell is deeply saddened by the death of Colin Powell, former US Secretary of State, whom he described as a friend of Grenada.

Powell, who is credited with helping to shape American foreign policy, died on October 18. Dr. Mitchell said his most treasured memory of the late American diplomat, was his visit to Grenada in October 2004, one month after Hurricane Ivan demolished much of the country.

The Prime Minister said, “Colin Powell’s visit and his promises of support from the US Government brought such a ray of hope, at a time of great despair. I vividly remember the time we spent together, during his visit, when he showed such interest in the well-being of our people and our country. Following his visit, Grenada benefitted from $50 million in aid for reconstruction, the first time the U.S. was so generous in its support to the region. I will be forever grateful for his valuable support and that of President Bush. I considered them both, true friends of Grenada.”
