Planting a variety of fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, cassava, banana and watermelon, they have proven that they can till the soil and reap benefits and they also understand the importance of agriculture to the nation's economy.

According to Acting 4H Coordinator Jennifer Duncan, through the garden initiative, the fruits and vegetables support the schools' feeding programme, keeping in line with the vision of the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council of eating what you grow and growing what you eat.

The Mt. Pleasant Government School was awarded the prize for the best school garden in the tri-island state.

DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PORT FACILITIES FOR CARRIACOU The deteriorating condition of the Hillsborough Jetty was brought to the fore by officials of the Grenada Ports Authority.

He noted that while Hillsborough is near to the centre of activities and allows easy navigational approach, there is no room for expansion.

Therefore, the Tyrell Bay area is the best site for a future port as it affords the opportunity for future economic expansion.

General Manager Ambrose Phillip along with other port officials met with stakeholders in Carriacou, highlighting the present state of the main port on the island and the need for its replacement.

Showing pictures of eroding piles and cracks on the structure, Port Manager Ian Evans said that they are now looking at their options; whether to replace the one in Hillsborough or develop new port facilities in Tyrell Bay.

INTER- ISLAND SPORTS 2012 The coming together of two islands to showcase their athletic talents, has been highly commended by Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs Senator the Hon. George Prime.

His statement was made at the nd 2 inter-island secondary schools games held at the Lauriston.

The games saw participation from Hillsborough Secondary, Bishop's College and Union Island Secondary.

At the end, although Bishop's College won the march past of athletes, they had to settle for second place as Hillsborough Secondary athletes gave them keen competition both in the field and track events. Union rd Island Sec placed 3 .

Some of the outstanding athletes were Jeremy Warrick, Mickel Joseph, Joylyn Enoe and Denzel Adams.

2012 INDEPENDENCE ROAD RACE A SUCCESS In a show of patriotism, athletes from the secondary and primary schools in C a r r i a c o u a n d Pe t i t e Martinique participated in the 2012 Independence Road Race.

year's activity saw athletes commencing the race in the town of Hillsborough went through Belair, Top Hill and back to Hillsborough.
