Art in Bark Celebrating 40 years of Barking
THE progressive Art in Bark Association of Australia, based at Brisbane, is celebrating its 40th anniversary next month at the Bleeding Heart Gallery in 166 Ann Street where some of the finest examples of this artistic expression will be on display. Art in Bark started in 1973 when a group got together for meeting in Corinda with the founder the late Danny Zam. About 30 artists will present at the anniversary showing including bark pictures from Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and Melbourne. “Our members have excelled in this exhibition, creating wonderful land and seascapes and portraits in bark that can stand proud alongside oil and acrylic paintings,” ABA president Barbara Parker said. “ABA founder Danny Zam and some of the earlier members were trying for more than 35 years to get bark pictures accepted by art galleries in Queensland. The galleries said it was a craft because we used glue on our brushes. Continued on Page 2
