Around The Greens October/November 2023

Page 1

October/November 2023 Dear Members, As the seasons change and the leaves begin to fall, we would like to take a moment to thank you, our members, for an amazing summer. It was truly wonderful to see the turnout for the holiday barbecues as well as special restaurant events this year. Your participation is what makes these events, and indeed The Club, a success. Speaking of thanks, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. We will be hosting this year’s event in the Grand Ballroom with an enhanced buffet, with waitstaff at the stations to serve you. Our executive chef, Michael Rutigliano, is looking forward to recreating a traditional Thanksgiving meal for our friends and family. The Chef is also working with his team to update the restaurant menus to introduce seasonally appropriate offerings. The Grillroom will continue to offer lunch Tuesdays through Sundays from 11:30AM to 3:30PM and dinner on Thursday and Friday evenings. And of course, don’t forget the Happy Hour on Thursdays from 5PM to 6:30PM. Reservations are recommended for lunch and required for dinner. We expect to see all of our snow birds before they fly south for the winter and for the rest who are staying, we look forward to serving you throughout the colder months. The summer may be over, but we remain to provide a safe and central place to gather with neighbors, friends and family, offering lunch, dinner and delivery service. The Royalton Team

THE GREENS MEN’S GROUP HAPPENINGS Mike Borsuk, Editor

If you’re reading this update and haven’t joined the GMG, what are you waiting for? Most of our programs don’t hibernate through the winter. We still have the Wednesday meetings, still bowl, play cards, tennis, and pickleball. The Adventure Boys aren’t biking, but they go on day trips and other events. We watch movies at the library on Monday night, then go to dinner. So, what are you waiting for? enroll you at any of our events/activities. Checks will be collected prior to GMG meetings, or may be given to Treasurer Irwin Tarlow, 734 Verona, Steve Swersky, 1120 Savoy, (bags on door) or any board member. PLEASE NOTE THAT because not enough people signed up for the West Point trip to see the Army football game, it has been cancelled. Checks will be returned to those that signed up. The Business Networking Group meetings are scheduled for 7 PM on the first Monday of each month at the Vanderbilt Motor Pkwy branch of our library. Any topics you think would be interesting for the evening meetings should be sent to Harold Kestenbaum, hkestenbaum@spadealaw.com . On October 16th, Ed Smyth, Huntington Town Supervisor will present the “state of the Town” and answer any questions. Please email your questions to Dan Feinberg at mr5coffee@yahoo.com so they can be forwarded to the Supervisor.

UPCOMING MEETINGS GMG members, Greens residents and their guests are welcome to our Wednesday presentation, which begin at 10:15 am. Paul Scharf, Director of Golf

Dear Members, It's October - the weather is changing and the golf season is winding down. This season went by to fast! With all things considered, the 2023 golf season was a success. The staff at the Greens have been terrific - this includes the golf shop, bag room, and starters, to all the restaurant staff, pool staff and everyone working in the club house. We can’t forget the superintendent and his ground crew as well as all the staff in the back office. Every year management goes above and beyond. If you haven’t already, please thank them when you see them as their efforts truly make the Greens an enjoyable place to come and I am sure they would appreciate the acknowledgement. All league credits will expire October 31st and any shop credits will expire by December 31st. Please make every effort to use them before they expire. If you will be traveling this winter or headed down to Florida and need your clubs shipped, please let us know. We have had great success with ship sticks, your clubs get boxed up and off they go. The course is always open for play so let’s hope for great weather and more golf to come. Sincerely, Paul Scharf Director of Golf
