HEIDI PRIBELL The services of awardwinning Boston interior designer Heidi Pribell’s namesake firm range from helping clients acquire works of fine and decorative art to guiding them through a complete home renovation. She explores the theme of metallics in this issue’s “Heavy Metals” (page 114). How do you describe your design style? Reimagining classic elegance with touches of bohemian flair. What are some of the materials you enjoy working with? Alpaca and embroidered textiles for upholstered walls and couture draperies, artisanal blown glass for custom light fixtures, and all types of crafted metal finishes. What are some design trends you’re seeing around town? Very contemporary interiors with a softer edge. Oriental rugs are making a comeback because they help anchor and define spaces in large, multifunction rooms.

JOSEPH GORDON CLEVELAND Art director, stylist, and writer Joseph Gordon Cleveland has contributed editorial writing and fashion features to the Boston Herald, Boston Globe, and The Improper Bostonian, among other publications. He curated a James Bond-inspired holiday gift guide (page 76). What are your favorite types of holiday gifts to receive? To give? In both cases, simple, thoughtful gifts that recall a shared experience or interest. What’s the worst gift you’ve ever received? That you’ve given? Received? A gift card. Given? The same. And I still feel terribly guilty about it. Boston recently hosted its Fashion Week—are there any fashion trends you’re seeing around town? Far too many oversized logos. Advertising the brand you’re wearing isn’t style, it’s consumerism at its most garish.
KATE BOTTS
TONYA MEZRICH
Born in Morocco and educated in London and Switzerland, Kate Botts came to Boston to begin a career in fashion retail before starting her own personal styling service, Shop Your Closet, which recently expanded into home organization. She shares her Ali MacGrawinspired holiday wish list in the gift guide (page 76).
Louisiana-born, Bostonbased writer Tonya Mezrich taps into her experience launching a jewelry line and serving as the resident fashion expert at NECN to report on Boston’s style and design scenes. She surveys three new luxury residences in this issue’s “The Skyline Club” (page 116).
What inspired you to start Shop Your Closet? After managing Holiday Boutique on Charles Street for seven years, it seemed like a natural transition to go from styling clients in a boutique to doing it on a more personal level in their homes. What are you incorporating into your styling this winter? I recently picked up a jacket and blazer by British designer Katherine Hooker, one of Kate Middleton’s go-to designers. All of her pieces are easy and versatile.
What are you seeing in the Boston real estate scene right now? Just when I thought the Back Bay was slowing down because of lack of space, new buildings like 30 Dalton are created out of parking lots. Unlikely hotspots like Somerville and East Boston are also picking up tons of speed with new properties creating bidding wars. Do you have any personal connections to the featured properties? 30 Dalton is in my backyard, and my husband has a regular card game in the Millennium owners lounge. The Pierce is a place after my heart—when you say heated outdoor swimming pool, I am in!
