Mosquito Lake is one of the largest lakes in Ohio, covering 7,850 acres of land. Activities available at the park include fishing, camping, boating, watersports, wildlife viewing, hiking, and winter sports.

Cortland Veterans Memorial

Honoring those who served, the Veterans Memorial was dedicated on Nov. 17, 2018. The memorial features a soldier’s cross and kneeling soldier in the center with special lighting, a water feature, and military emblems. Engraved pavers honoring veterans from this area and beyond surround the kneeling soldier.

Turkey Run Trail

Turkey Run Trail is a bird-watcher’s paradise, where 177 species have been spotted. From warblers to goldfinches, hummingbirds to geese, you’ll discover a full range of feathered friends along this beautiful and relaxing 5-mile trail.

Hot Dog Day

Niles settler Harry Stevens is credited with popularizing the hot dog and inventing the baseball scorecard. We honor that history in July with an outdoor extravaganza that includes wiener dog races, a hot dog topping contest, hot dog eating contest, and parade.

National McKinley Birthplace Memorial

This destination is dedicated to honoring the memorial of William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, through preservation, exhibition, and interpretation of historical artifacts. Whether you love birding, biking, or geocaching, Trumbull County offers many opportunities to get in touch with the natural world. Can’t decide where to start? Download the Trumbull County GeoTour passport and go for a treasure hunt that includes stops for shopping, outdoor adventures, and historic sites.

Birding

For visitors partial to feathered creatures, grab your binoculars and head to the Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area to catch sight of swans, ruffed grouse, warblers, and hawks, among other species. If you’re lucky, you may spot a bald eagle — there are two nests in the area. Another fantastic location for birding is the Grand River Wildlife Area, which is home to many types of songbirds thanks to its diverse mix of habitats. Bring a camera if you have one; it’ll be put to good use!

Biking

Looking for a faster pace than your usual routine? Take your bike on the Western Reserve Greenway, which stretches 42 miles through Northeast Ohio. You’ll experience a variety of scenery, from rolling hills to expansive woodlands.

Agritourism

Make your way to Trumbull County’s countryside, where options abound to support agritourism. Discover your next treasure along the Tour Route 7 60-mile Yard Sale from Hubbard to Conneaut. Or, enjoy a delicious roast beef sandwich at the annual Mesopotamia Ox Roast. Looking for local honey? TTrumbull County is rich in history and locally owned, independent restaurants. Pies and Thighs takes homemade Amish cooking right to the source. This reservation-only dining experience, hosted in an Amish home, includes chicken, fresh bread, traditional sides, and pie! Kravitz Delicatessen has been a Trumbull County mainstay since 1939. Pull up a chair for a plate of corned beef hash, Reuben, or order a dozen bagels to enjoy at home. The Mocha House offers freshly made breakfast and lunch specials with fresh and imaginative choices. Salvatore’s Italian Grill is another local favorite, also opening its first location in the 1930s. This upscale-casual spot is known for its steaks, fresh seafood, pasta, and the ever-popular hot peppers in oil. Traditional barbecue lovers will find lots to love at Cockeye BBQ and Creamery , where handrubbed meats are smoked on-site over local hardwood for up to 14 hours. Hop on a re-purposed train dining car for a meal at Rhonda’s Emerald Diner and try the Peggy Lee’s Patty Melt, a Big Bopper Shake, or the Hound Dog hot dog.

At Vernon’s Cafe, leave well-fed and happy with an order of fried Italian greens and angel hair Giardinara. Vasilio’s Restaurant and Pizzeria is known for its popular homemade red sauce, also sold at over two dozen local grocery stores. Jimmy’s Italian Specialties welcomes hungry diners with its grilled paninis, from the Eggplant Parm Brick to Three Cheese Brick Americana. Wedgewood Fernando’s Pizza serves its pies with a special recipe sauce, variety of toppings, and homemade sausage. Sunrise Inn has been in business for nearly 100 years and bills itself as Warren’s first pizza shop. Try the Old-World Pizza with sauce, Romano cheese, and green peppers.
