Building Connections, Celebrating Community
It feels especially fitting that this magazine is called Connections. After all, that’s what the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce is all about— bringing people together, building relationships, and creating opportunities for economic growth!
We’re proud to be the 7th largest Chamber in the country, and our strength comes from the connections we share with one another. Whether it’s through collaboration, partnership, or simply the conversations that spark new ideas, those connections move our region forward.
That spirit will be on full display at our Annual Meeting on November 4. It’s always one of the highlights of the year—a chance to celebrate our community,
honor the people and organizations doing great work, and most importantly, spend time together as one united Chamber of Commerce and Communities!
And the Annual Meeting is just the beginning. Across our region, there are so many incredible Chamber events happening year-round—festivals, fundraisers, networking nights, ribbon cuttings, and more. Each one strengthens the ties between businesses and neighbors, reminding us that when our community thrives, we all thrive.
We hope you’ll join us. After all, the Chamber’s story isn’t just about business—it’s about people, connections, and the power of coming together.

AMBASSADORS & SMALL BUSINESS COUNCILS
SMALL BUSINESS COUNCIL
Bill Benz, Carnegie Agency Chair, Small Business Council
The Small Business Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to kick off another exciting year of insights, network connections, and advocacy. Our journey begins on November 6th at the 2025 Annual Meeting at Wind Creek Event Center, the celebration that sets the tone for the year ahead. In our first board meeting with returning and recently appointed members, we focused on our goals as a contributor to the overall engagement of chamber members. We are leaning into education with the next installment of the Business Summit, building on our past success. Additionally, we are excited to promote who we are, our businesses, and why we live, work, and play in the Lehigh Valley. Along those lines, we are working on new projects to increase sharing expertise by partnering with other members and councils, including the newly formed Marketing & Communications Advisors, chaired
by Emily Massaro, Vice President, Marketing at Liquid. Let's harness the expertise across our councils as we are stronger together. Like the Annual Meeting, the SBC is about bringing people together, which strengthens our position as a group. The best way to tap into this energy is by getting involved. Start with Mastering Your Membership and the evening networking opportunity. Plan on attending a few chamber events per month using the event calendar (https://web.lehighvalleychamber. org/events). Remember, there are also chamber webinars and locally supported events like the Phillipsburg Railroad Festival, presented by Platinum Star Cleaning, and the newly formed Warren County Council on September 27th, 2025, starting at 11 am at Shappell Park. It's going to be an exciting day for the whole family. Mark your calendar, show up, 2025-2026 is a year of growth and shared successes.
NONPROFIT & BUSINESS PARTNERS COUNCIL
Tanya Tyler, Air Products Chair, Nonprofit & Business Partners Council
It’s Time for a Fresh Way of Thinking!
In the fast-paced world of nonprofit leadership and small business ownership, we often find ourselves paddling upstream—navigating deadlines, juggling responsibilities, and striving to stay afloat amid constant change. But what if the key to growth wasn’t in paddling harder, but in letting go?
This year, the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Non-Profit Business Partners (NPBP) board invites you to explore a new rhythm. Our 2025–2026 event series, Float, Flow and Fly, is more than a theme—it’s a mindset shift. It’s a call to pause, reflect, and reimagine how we lead, connect, and evolve.
We begin with our October 8 event,
that no longer serves us. In a world that rewards hustle, FLOAT reminds us that rest is not retreat—it’s renewal.
Our journey continues in January 21 with FLOW, where we’ll explore how to move with intention and adaptability. And finally on April 14 we’ll take flight in FLY, a celebration of bold thinking, creative risk-taking, and the courage to soar beyond what we thought possible.
For the first time in the history of NPBP, we’re offering this series as a bundled experience—three events, one transformative arc. This isn’t just another event series. It’s a space to breathe, to grow, and to reconnect—with ourselves, our missions, and each other.

Chair,
Western Lehigh Area Chamber
I’m honored to step into the role of Chair for the Western Lehigh Chamber of Commerce. Growing up in this community, it’s exciting to be part of an organization that helps lead change in a place I’ve come to know so well. This year, our board is committed to hosting at least two volunteer events, including snack packing at Parkland Cares to support families facing food insecurity and volunteering at a local animal shelter to tie back to our signature event, Paws at the Park. We are also focused on expanding the “signature” events WLCC is known for, with a goal of hosting at least four luncheons and tours that highlight the businesses shaping our region—so if you’re a local manufactur-
er interested in showcasing your space, we’d love to hear from you. Looking ahead, we’re excited to partner with the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce on October 15th for a luncheon and tour at Lehigh Carbon Community College, where we’ll learn about their manufacturing labs and degree programs. Just recently, our members had the chance to tour the construction site of the Upper Macungie Community Lifestyle Center, which will be a tremendous asset to our community once complete. And finally, please save the date for our Holiday Luncheon on December 10th at the Delta Hotel, featuring a performance by the Parkland Chorale.

As the seasons change, there’s no shortage of exciting events in Hellertown and Lower Saucon!
We recently wrapped up another successful Music in the Parks Concert Series. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy live music, food trucks, and warm summer evenings at Dimmick Park. It was a fantastic way to connect with neighbors and celebrate local talent — and we’re already looking forward to next year’s lineup!
Next, get ready for spooky fun at the Hellertown Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 19. This beloved tradition brings creative costumes, festive floats, and plenty of candy for all ages. Wheth-
er you’re marching or cheering from the sidelines, it’s a fall favorite you won’t want to miss.
Finally, mark your calendars for our most magical event of the year: Light Up Night on Friday, November 28, 2025. Join us downtown as we kick off the holiday season with live entertainment, food vendors, visits from Santa, and — of course — the grand tree lighting. It’s a night full of sparkle, joy, and community cheer.
From summer concerts to holiday lights, there’s always something happening in Hellertown-Lower Saucon. We look forward to celebrating with you this season!

CARBON CHAMBER
Patrick Reilly, Mauch Chunk Trust Chair, Carbon Chamber
As we move into the final quarter of the year, I’m proud to share the incredible momentum our organization has built through recent events and the exciting opportunities ahead.
September was a month to remember. The 19th Annual Sturm Cup Golf Tournament was not only wildly successful— it was one of our most well-attended events to date. The energy, camaraderie, and community spirit on display reminded us why Carbon County is such a special place to live and do business.
We also celebrated a major milestone with our Launch & Rebrand Party, where we unveiled the fresh new look of the CCEDC. Our updated graphics and messaging reflect a bold, modern identity that better communicates with our members and positions the organization as a dynamic force in the region. Thank you to everyone who joined us in marking this exciting new chapter.
October brings two important events that promise to inform and inspire:
· Economic Outlook, featuring renowned economist Dr. Ed Seifried, will offer valuable insights into the trends shaping our local and national economy.
· State of the County will provide a platform for our county leaders to share updates, priorities, and plans for the future.
And looking ahead to November, I warmly invite you to attend our Annual Gala—a celebration of the people, businesses, and partnerships that make Carbon County thrive. It’s a night of recognition, connection, and community, and we hope to see you there.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant Carbon County.

Flu shot offers proven health and cost benefits, Capital Blue Cross finds
For seniors age 65 and older, getting an annual flu shot can do more than help avoid a few days of illness – it can keep them out of the hospital and save them money, according to new Capital Blue Cross findings that highlight the value of flu vaccinations.
Capital data from the 2024-25 flu season showed that seniors who received their flu shots were nearly 20% less likely to visit the emergency room for viral respiratory infections than those who were not vaccinated. By avoiding the emergency room, seniors also avoided out-of-pocket costs averaging $423 per ER visit and $765 when an ER visit resulted in a hospital admission.
“Vaccines aren’t just about fighting the flu – they’re about preventing serious illness that can lead to emergency care or hospitalization,” said Dr. Shikha Doomra, Clinical Medical Director at Capital Blue Cross. “This data shows that skipping the flu shot can have real consequences, especially for older adults.” U.S. flu hospitalizations in 2024-25 were the highest in more than a decade, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In January through March 2025, which roughly coincides with peak flu season, Capital Blue Cross saw flu and pneumonia-related hospital admissions among its Medicare Advantage members rise by more than 60% compared to the same period in 2024. That added $2.5 million in healthcare costs.
With another flu season approaching, Capital Blue Cross is encouraging members to protect their health – and wallets – by getting a flu shot this fall.
Flu season typically begins in the fall with peak flu activity usually occurring in the winter. Getting vaccinated early in the fall gives your body time to build strong protection, said Dr. Doomra.
While flu vaccines are especially critical for older adults, preventive care is important for everyone, Dr. Doomra said. In addition to the flu shot, vaccines for RSV and pneumonia can offer added protection – particularly for those with underlying health conditions or weakened immune
systems.
“Whether you're a senior, a caregiver, or simply preparing for the season ahead, taking a few simple steps now can help you stay healthier through the fall and winter months,” Dr. Doomra said.
Here are simple steps to ensure you’re prepared.
Know what vaccines you need.
The CDC recommends a flu shot for everyone age 6 months and older. RSV and pneumonia vaccines also are available for eligible individuals, including older adults and those with certain health conditions. Talk to your doctor to find out which vaccines are right for you.
Find a convenient location.
Vaccines are available at doctor’s offices, pharmacies, clinics, and health departments. Many offer online scheduling. Use VaccineFinder to locate a provider near you and make an appointment if necessary.
Check your insurance coverage.
Flu, pneumonia, and RSV vaccines may be covered under your health plan, but double check to make sure. If you don’t have health insurance, you may still be able to get vaccinated at low or no cost through local health departments, community health clinics, or federally funded programs.
For more details on who should get vaccinated, where to go, and how to check your coverage, visit the Capital Journal.
