Lakewood crosses the finish line Patriot Day ceremony... at another successful Summer a day of remembrance Stampede Car Show
The winner of this year’s “Best in Show.” Congratulations!
Ready, set, go! As temperatures grew warmer and the summer drew to a close, Lakewood residents revved their engines at the 22nd Annual Summer Stampede Car Show, presented by the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. The yearly event, held at Mayfair Park, boasted over 100 classic cars on display and drew crowds of spectators as the day went on. There was something for every member of the family
to enjoy, with delicious food trucks, live entertainment, contests and even a kids area for the little ones. Trophies were awarded to many of the Car Show participants, including Best Interior, Best Paint Job, Best in Show, and a Mayor’s Choice award. The City of Lakewood commenced a stormwater capture project at Mayfair Park in May 2018, which affected the location of the Summer Stampede Car Show both this
year and the previous, but that didn’t stop residents and participants from attending the much-anticipated event on August 25th. “Due to ongoing construction at Mayfair Park, our event space was reduced,” said Chamber President/CEO Jose Solache. “Thanks to the support of the community and our valued sponsors, we were still able to hold a successful Car Show and continue this 22-year tradition.” Construction is slated to finish by the end of this month and the Chamber is already planning to utilize their former venue space for the 2020 Summer Stampede Car Show. “Next year, we will be back to using our expanded location at Mayfair Park and we look forward to an even bigger and better show”, said Solache. The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the participants, volunteers, vendors and especially the sponsors who made this year’s Car Show possible. ♦
A flag-lowering ceremony will be held at City Hall.
The City of Lakewood will solemnly commemorate Patriot Day with a flag-lowering ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 11 at City Hall, 5050 Clark Ave. The 30-minute ceremony will include the presentation of the colors, remarks from Mayor Todd Rogers and a brief musical performance. Pastor Tim Buzbee will lead a moment of silence before the Los Angeles County
Sheriff’s Department trumpet players play Taps as our nation’s flag is lowered for the night. Since first gathering two weeks after the horrific events of September 11, 2001, Lakewood residents have come together annually to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks and pay tribute to the U.S. military personnel and public safety first responders who protect and serve us at home and abroad. ♦
