appy New Year to you and your family!!! It is so refreshing to see the new year roll in. Traditions of opening the front door to let in good things to come, while opening the back door to allow all the past year’s weight move on. The celebration of the new year always seems too short at times. We need to celebrate life more. Historically, New Years Day has many symbolic religious annotations, but with the crew at Grease Inc. magazine and Garage71 radio, it represents a new start to a year ahead full of events, great music, new rides and places to check out. It also represents our reader’s poll in the Best Of 2014!!! This is always an exciting issue for us as it includes our readers, supporters, and endorsers comments and input, as where it is that they like to go, hangout, and support. The tallies are in! The participation has grown with support from you and it is always fun to see folks rally behind local establishments in hopes to gain the Best Of Votes from their peers. There is so much lined up for this year. There will be new events and happenings announced! There will be new sections in the magazine unveiled. There is quite a bit of travel on the calendar, as we continue to grow and bring our readers what they want to see. We will be hitting of course our main stays like Daytona, but also looking forward to the 75th Anniversary of Sturgis. Our doors are always open at the studio for you to come by. We will be hosting several events on property this year and we look forward to having the Kustom Kulture alive on our door step... this is what it’s about for us! May your New Year bring you good health. May you stay strong and fit. May your hard work and efforts bring you prosperity to support you and your family. May the struggles be short, but bring opportunity. May you better support your family and honor your personal ties between your family. Let the wind blow fierce against our face as we ride into many sunsets only to cherish a new year and the time we get to share while rolling hard in 2015...

This truck was built in Atlanta, GA when the factory here was still open. This truck hauled moonshine in the good ole days.

9

Story goes that the man was running from the police with a load of some sweet Georgia White Lightning Moonshine and they were exchanging gun fire (it had 3 bullet holes in the back window when I got it). The guy ran off the road and down a bank (why I had to replace the cab). The cops never found the truck and the truck sat there

for 20 years. After the man died his sons finally pulled the old treasure out to the woods with plans of fixing it. They purchased a rebuilt motor but that's about as far as it got. It sat in a shed for another 20 years. A guy that has a tire shop here in Athens bought it with plans of fixing it. He ran new brake lines and replaced all the brakes. He didn't keep it very long. He told me he was in hard times and needed the money so I bought it. 12

This small but awesome bar with a great patio deck located in the heart of the Highlands, is one of the crew’s favorite hideaways. Located at 870 N. Highland Ave, Deisel Filling Station is a lively sports bar with large projection screen, makeyour-own burgers, and more than 50 kinds of beer. All food is prepared in house. You may catch Rev. Andy and other various local celebrities on a regular basis here at Deisel Filling Station. “The food was good. I ordered the “Death Muffin” and a friend ordered the “Breakfast Burger”, both were very different and very good. Saw this place in Diners, Drive-in’s, and Dives TV show and had to try it. The ambience is very different; they’re really into Zombies and I agree with one review that says they seem to support the “geek” culture.” You say known for zombies, why yes, with Walking Dead premieres and plenty of Zombie Pub Crawls, Deisel Filling Station has earned it’s rank in the B rated film industry as the A rated local man cave!

The Beer Barrel, is located at 1294 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA. “Excellent place to wind down after work. Julia is the Bombdiggity and Justin can make the craziest shots you could ever put down!” The Beer Barrel is a neighborhood bar in Marietta that draws a post-work crowd. People come here to drink and have a good time! The bar is small but has a great covered deck with shuffle board and Tiki bar. They are biker friendly. “As dive bars go, this ranks at the top. If you like middle aged drunk women hitting on you as you try to make your way to the bathroom this is the place. On the night we were there, looks like it would be no different on any other night. The people there seemed like they are there every night. So it’s like this is their living room at home and it’s OK for you to come over. Staff and regulars are friendly.”

Waffle House

The all time late night early morning local southern favorite, the Waffle House takes it by a landslide. On Labor Day 1955, the dream became a reality, and an icon was born. The first Waffle House restaurant opened its doors for business in Avondale Estates, an Atlanta suburb, and is still standing today as a Waffle House Museum. Since day one, each Waffle House has provided guests with a unique and comfortable dining experience. At every restaurant, the bright “Yellow Sign” greets customers like an old friend, the jukebox plays a variety of the now famous Waffle House songs, and the staff give customers a heartfelt greeting as they walk through the door. Each restaurant is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, inspiring urban myths such as “Waffle House doors have no locks.”

The trends continue to support the local growth of the ever changing handles pouring liquid gold after a good hard day’s end and what better local beer on tap, but Jailhouse Brewing Company, based out of Hampton, Georgia. Jailhouse Brewing actually brews in the old City of Hampton Jail from the 1920’s. After some fun engineering, the owner, Glenn Golden, worked out all the details and began brewing in 2009. “On October 23rd, 2009, the first batch of Jailhouse beer was brewed. I remember it quite well. Our brewers license had arrived in the mail that very day and I was so anxious to get beer in the tanks I hit the go button. My head didn’t see a pillow until early the next morning. I was pleasantly tired and excited to be a part of the Georgia craft beer scene.” Lockdown Thursdays 5:30-8pm. For a more informal feel, Jailhouse Brewing Company opens the doors to those who want to hang out with friends and chat with brewers. The tour is a bit more informal but educational, with a self-guided format. Bring a chair and chill with them for some well deserved after-work refreshments, corn hole games, and good conversations. Who knows, they may even be brewing beer while you’re there.

The menu is based on traditional cured meats and Spanish cheese, tapas, salads, and cocas. “While we spend a great deal of time honoring traditional Spanish flavor combinations, we are also inspired by modern techniques and culinary creativity. “The Iberian Pig take great pride and focus on their wine list comprised of selections from Spain, Chile, and Argentina, and a cocktail list that consists of faithful classics and signature combinations. Located in the heart of downtown Decatur at 121 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA. It was almost as easy to pick this one as it is to walk outside and determine the Best Burger weather forecast for the day... The creative, meaty, juicy burgers of the Vortex is always a slam dunk when it comes to the BEST BURGER in Atlanta. The Vortex has been known for years as the place to get an awesome burger. Originally located in midtown, the brother and sister group led the infamous laughing skull of the Vortex to Little 5, while also maintaining a downtown location, including their comedy club on Peachtree Street. The art and craftsmanship in the kustom kulture has taken a strain the last several years as the economy provides pressure and technology continues to replace specialized technique and style. Well, one local artist continues to improve his art and continues to excel in an area that almost died out in the local scene. Tom Enlow, out of Athens, has been no stranger to many of us. His pin striping style continues to take shape, and he has become affluent on many mediums to become his canvas from Skateboard decks, to motorcycles, to trophies, to hot rods. Tom sees only lines of ornamental art to highlight an already slick design. Defining his character would be to define his art, free flowing. Remember to support your starving artist. Best Linge

FOXERS designer April Spring wore soft cotton boxers on warm evenings as loungewear. The comfort of the cotton and the soft waistband made them ideal. In addition, there is something very sexy about a woman borrowing just the right item from her beau’s closet. (Think Sienna Miller painting in the movie Alfie) The original FOXERS idea came to April while studying fashion illustration in Asia. Having previously worked at Saks Fifth Avenue and owned a vintage clothing boutique, she knew this idea would be popular back in the US. The first samples (imprinted with the working title BOX HERS) were created in late 2006 and the first production quantity arrived in April 2007.
